Our customers are able to use this groupware solution to connect to Active Directory and OpenLDAP, although Postgres support would be an improvement.
Zarafa has several very valuable features, among them a very good Outlook-like web interface. Furthermore, ZPush for talking between ActiveSync and mobile devices is a valuable asset. In addition, one is able to connect via Outlook and the exchange protocol to Zarafa. This makes Zarafa a free, and working, alternative to Microsoft Exchange.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This makes Zarafa a free, and working, alternative to Microsoft Exchange."
"Zimbra Collaboration is mainly used for messaging, emails, calendars, video conferencing, and document sharing."
"A lot of other products like Microsoft Exchange offer email or collaboration features, but they are not as fast as Zimbra."
"This is a good email solution and it's open-source which is great and the most important feature for us."
"Zimbra Collaboration has a good web interface."
"One of the most valuable features involves the solution's automatic backup, which I find to be pretty simple and straightforward, and obviates the need for additional software."
"The Zimbra Collaboration's most valuable feature is web access."
"The web interface is powerful and easy to use."
"Zimbra Collaboration has integrated a lot of their party tools and they have good documentation available."

Cons

"Not really, although the Zarafa-index component was using a lot of memory and disk I/O bandwith."
"Zimbra Collaboration's video conferencing could be improved."
"We had a couple of issues with stability, but nothing that I couldn't work around or fix myself. Zimbra is a powerful product, but since VMware bought it, changes and bug fixes have been very slow in coming."
"There are some bugs we found that could be fixed."
"It does have a few bugs."
"The support was lacking in my experience."
"Zimbra Collaboration does not have a solution roadmap as aggressive as the new collaboration mail solutions. Additionally, they can have a better interface and integration with single sign-on."
"Zimbra Collaboration could improve the migration from a basic solution to a more containerized solution. For example, the installation should be able to extend to the containers and manage them with some solution, such as OpenShift or Kubernetes."
"Because of the lack of this functionality, we are planning to migrate to Microsoft Exchange."
