Google Hangouts [EOL] Reviews

I use the product on a quarterly basis in a year, specifically to attend some meetings. I also use the product to help my children attend some online classes.

The most valuable features of the solution are its ability to allow the sharing of screens and the way it allows a user to take control of another system.

Google Hangouts is not good enough to be used in a professional environment or for some official work, especially when compared to a product like Microsoft Teams. The aforementioned area can be considered for improvement in the product.

I have been using Google Hangouts for five to six years.

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten. If I look at the products professionally, people prefer Microsoft Teams over Google Hangouts. Compared to Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts is not a good product.

I can't comment on the product's scalability since I am the only solution user.

There is a need to make certain payments towards the licensing costs attached to the product and some other tools that are included in the suite offered by Google. Google Hangouts alone as a product is available for free.

For personal use, Google Hangouts is convenient to use. Google Hangouts can be used to connect with family and friends, and for some of the online classes.

The most valuable feature of Google Hangouts is there are no predefined or meeting durations. For example, Zoom meetings have a set duration, typically ranging from thirty minutes to an hour, whereas Google Meet meetings can continue indefinitely. Additionally, it is effortless to generate a meeting, whether it is a live session or for future use, and distribute your link to others, making these aspects appealing to me.

Google Hangouts should add a feature to show how someone connects, such as via a laptop or phone. If you know if someone is using a laptop you can ask them to share their screen.

Although it is possible to adjust video resolutions in Google Hangouts, the available options are limited to low resolutions, such as 360p or 480p. It would be beneficial to have additional options for higher quality, particularly for those with high-speed internet connections who could benefit from enhanced video quality.

I have faced some technical issues where I could not join a meeting, a meeting ended abruptly, or I was in a meeting room but the host could not see I was there. There was some issue in the cloud.

Google Hangouts is a scalable solution across an organization. Additionally, it has compatibility with devices.

In the past, I have utilized Cisco Webex. One significant contrast between Cisco Webex and Google Hangouts is that in Cisco Webex, you can discern how a person logged in, whether it was through a phone or a laptop. 

Overall, Cisco Webex has more features than Google Hangouts.

The initial setup of Google Hangouts is simple. Most people have a Google account and it can be done with a few clicks of the mouse.

We have many competitors to Google Hangouts in India, such as Cisco Webex.

Users should look at their use case and determine if they are using video meetings for business use or for informal meetings. I would recommend Cisco Webex for more professional meetings as it has better quality and I would recommend Google Hangouts for less informal meetings and one that does not have a time restrictions.

We use the solution similar to the way people use Zoom. We use it for meetings online. 

It's very secure.

We like that we can share screens.

If you want to record a meeting, you can't do that in the standard version.

I work in software now, and during the pandemic, we worked remotely. For different reasons, I have video conference meetings with colleagues and present my work about five times a week. These meetings are for coordination and other necessities. Google Hangouts is used to facilitate meetings.

When we need to coordinate the server requirements, we will meet, share our computer screens, and navigate through the solution to present it to customers or testers. During the meeting, we will take notes on any changes that need to be made. The following day or during the next meeting, we will present the changes to the server or solutions to any bugs.

The facility is always online and very easy to share the screen using the solution. The setup of the camera is also straightforward.

The only issue with the solution is that we can't split the video of participants into separate screens, which can make it difficult to manage the cameras of participants. The solution can improve by adding the ability to split the participant screens into multiple monitors.

Other solutions such as Zoom can facilitate a presentation and easily separate participants. In the future, we can save the record, edit it, and maximize the screen for better understanding. If necessary, we can also show the participants' screens. I would like this ability to be added to Google.

I strongly recommend that schools and universities use the solution in combination with Google Docs, Drive, and Shared Space. This package of Google solutions makes it easier to commercialize Google Meet, allowing for increased efficiency.

Google Meet is primarily used for collaboration activities among employees and team members within our organization. It is also utilized for meetings with customers who use Google services.

The product's Gemini AI component is the most valuable feature, automatically summarizing meeting notes. This feature is beneficial as it effectively captures the essence of the meetings.

The platform's screen-sharing feature and the participant panel could be improved. The current interface for sharing the entire screen could be more effective, and the participants' panel is considered clumsy compared to competitors like Webex or Teams.

I have been using Google Meet for over three or four years.

The product is stable. I rate the stability a nine out of ten.
