Flexible user interface, good visibility of data, good support
Pros and Cons
  • "The user interface is flexible and the visibility of the data flow is amazing."
  • "This product really improves my organization and fits all of the needed requirements for working with cleansed data."
  • "The tool's performance is an area that should be given further consideration."
  • "The tool's performance is an area that should be given further consideration."

What is our primary use case?

I starting with the design and discovery phase to detect data issues by using the profiling service, then started to analyze the data to determine and fix issues with it.

How has it helped my organization?

This product really improves my organization and fits all of the needed requirements for working with cleansed data. This helps to prevent issues from appearing in the business layer.

What is most valuable?

The user interface is flexible and the visibility of the data flow is amazing. You can see your data throughout the flow and then you can determine where issues are before fixing them.

What needs improvement?

The tool's performance is an area that should be given further consideration.

This is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been very helpful. Whenever we have a problem, they are able to solve it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with a similar solution by IBM.

How was the initial setup?

Informatica platform installation is straightforward. As long as the prerequisites check is done successfully, it will be very easy to do.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A complete master data management solution with a useful fuzzy matching feature
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the number of options that are presented with Informatica, fuzzy matching, and your screen."
  • "I like the number of options that are presented with Informatica, fuzzy matching, and your screen."
  • "They have too many diversified products. If you don't know Informatica, it's very confusing and feels very idiotic."
  • "They have too many diversified products. If you don't know Informatica, it's very confusing and feels very idiotic."

What is most valuable?

I like the number of options that are presented with Informatica, fuzzy matching, and your screen. I feel the screen or the configuration is pretty easy and pretty straightforward. To learn or to ramp up is also pretty straightforward.

What needs improvement?

They have too many diversified products. If you don't know Informatica, it's very confusing and feels very idiotic. If you want data quality, they have one tool. For management, they have another tool. If you say MBM, they have a tool, and they have another tool to get something up. From a split tools perspective, it's confusing for a new user and somebody who doesn't understand Informatica.

They say they provide support, but it's not easy for somebody reading and didn't use Informatica before. The price could also be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Informatica MDM for 12 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's pretty stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability depends on what you choose and how we will do it. If you don't know things, things get complicated.

How are customer service and technical support?

It starts pretty well, but it takes time. I would give technical support only a six or seven out of 10. I won't say it's like "wow" kind of stuff.

How was the initial setup?

I have been using it for a long time, so it's pretty straightforward for us. I don't know if it was complex earlier. What we're doing is technically complex, and there's always room for improvement.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it. You need two or three people to install it, then it's easy, and one person can maintain it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's pretty high for us. It's more on the higher side, like low to middle high.

What other advice do I have?

I would tell new users that even though you feel it's pricey, there are a lot of options that come by default. They have to understand that they have to choose somebody who understands the product very well.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Informatica MDM an eight.

Stable, scalable, and useful for testing purposes, but needs better performance and more execution options
Pros and Cons
  • "It is very useful for testing purposes and designing mappings for small projects. If you go for IDQ in the mapping itself, you can see the data. You can then correct it, and test it so easily. It is working fine. It is also stable, scalable, and easy to deploy."

  • "It can be improved in terms of performance and execution. I'm expecting better performance. It currently has some restrictions in terms of execution. For example, if we want to run it in the command mode and execute it, there are some restrictions, and we are facing some issues with a huge volume of data. These restrictions are not there in Informatica PowerCenter because we are able to execute a huge volume of data, and there are more ways to execute it."

What is our primary use case?

We are using it for extraction purposes for some of our projects. We extract and test the data.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for the past three or four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We have ten engineers who use it.

How are customer service and technical support?

We are getting better support with PowerCenter. Informatica Data Quality was developed later, and its support is not up to that level, but it is fine.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't use any other solution.

How was the initial setup?

Its initial setup is straightforward. We just need to create data integration services. The deployment generally takes up to three hours, but it can take longer depending on the nodes.

What about the implementation team?

I did it myself.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. We have a long term license, and we plan to keep using it.

I would rate Informatica Data Quality a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

If you have an Informatica installation already, be it IDQ or Informatica MDM, then Axon is the right choice
Pros and Cons
  • "The features that I have found most valuable are, first of all, that it comes as part of this whole bundle of Informatica tools. So if you've been implementing Informatica MDM across a business, you'd often find it comes with it. It's been thrown in as a sweetener. The adoption of it is often the challenge because as part of your MDM project, governance is seen as something beyond the MDM and is often restrictive. So this tool actually, for the first time, when you talk to data governance teams, gives a holistic view of what a data governance team can do with this tool."

  • "In terms of what could be improved, they need to create a rules repository. Business rules for the attributes that you have, keeping them in that central repository, and governance of them is something which Axon is lacking a bit. The Informatica Data Quality tool actually caters to that, so that's probably why they have not built that up in the Axon, but it is definitely something that can be built in to this product, as well."
  • "In terms of what could be improved, they need to create a rules repository."

What is most valuable?

The features that I have found most valuable are, first of all, that it comes as part of this whole bundle of Informatica tools. So if you've been implementing Informatica MDM across a business, you'd often find it comes with it. It's been thrown in as a sweetener. The adoption of it is often the challenge because as part of your MDM project, governance is seen as something beyond the MDM and is often restrictive. So this tool actually, for the first time, when you talk to data governance teams, gives a holistic view of what a data governance team can do with this tool.

Collecting a knowledge repository, creating a business glossary and visualizing the data lineage are quite fundamental as part of your data governance team's work. Once they see it in Axon, it becomes relatively easy for them to visualize what they have to do. Otherwise, it is often a challenge for them to grasp what their role is and what are they supposed to do. Informatica Axon provides that visualization which helps a lot.

What needs improvement?

In terms of what could be improved, they need to create a rules repository. Business rules for the attributes that you have, keeping them in that central repository, and governance of them is something which Axon is lacking a bit. The Informatica Data Quality tool actually caters to that, so that's probably why they have not built that up in the Axon, but it is definitely something that can be built in to this product, as well.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Informatica Axon for about four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Informatica Axon is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Informatica Axon is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have had experience with their technical support. It is definitely there, as in it's quite robust and is a mature tool. You do get enough technical support from Infomatica while implementing it.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is purely straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In terms of price, Informatica products are all a bit pricier than the rest of the market. But if you want to go for products from that stable, I think you'll have to pay a price.

What other advice do I have?

If you have an Informatica installation already, be it IDQ or Informatica MDM, then Axon is the right choice. It's a no-brainer to have Axon.

On a scale of one to ten, I would give Informatica Axon an eight.

Delivers enterprise-strength data quality for a wide range of scenarios
Pros and Cons
  • "Seeing the data in the mapping itself is really nice."
  • "I would absolutely recommend this solution to others."
  • "Although we are very satisfied with the design of the UI, executing tasks with it can be difficult."
  • "Compared to PowerCenter, Data Quality needs some improvement; when we are dealing with large amounts of data for extraction purposes, it doesn't always work out and we often experience some memory issues here and there."

What is our primary use case?

We use Data Quality for healthcare projects, and although it's not its prime purpose, we also use it to extract data. Compared to PowerCenter, it's a little easier to use — we designed the mapping ourselves. In short, we use Data Quality primarily for extraction purposes.

Within our organization, there are 10 employees using this solution.

What is most valuable?

Seeing the data in the mapping itself is really nice. We don't want to extract the data and just see the flat file. With Data Quality, we can see the data very easily.

What needs improvement?

When running a workload, we can only use the command mode. We were expecting Data Quality to offer the same type of workflow as PowerCenter.

Although we are very satisfied with the design of the UI, executing tasks with it can be difficult.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Informatica Data Quality for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Overall, stability-wise, it's quite good; however, we think PowerCenter is more stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Compared to PowerCenter, Data Quality needs some improvement. When we are dealing with large amounts of data for extraction purposes, it doesn't always work out — often we experience some memory issues here and there. Scalability-wise it needs some improvement.

How are customer service and technical support?

Although the technical support is responsive, they often take a very long time to solve our issues. They are quick to solve second and third-level requests, but when it comes to first-level requests, their solutions become very vague and general and often don't bear any fruit — otherwise, they're good.

How was the initial setup?

Deployment was quite straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a long-term license. I can't really speak about the licensing as I don't know much about it.

What other advice do I have?

I would absolutely recommend this solution to others. If you can afford it, then go for it. If it's out of your price range, then I would recommend considering an open-source solution.

overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Stable with a straightforward initial setup and a good user interface
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution's initial setup is quite straightforward."
  • "The solution is very scalable, and if a company needs to expand it, it should not face any issues doing so."
  • "There may be some types of limitations with the performance."
  • "There may be some types of limitations with the performance."

What is most valuable?

The user interface is good.

The solution's initial setup is quite straightforward.

What needs improvement?

I haven't had too much time with the solution. There may be much to be improved. However, I still need time with it.

There may be some types of limitations with the performance.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for a couple of weeks. It hasn't been too long.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is quite stable. We do not have any issues with it crashing and there are not bugs or glitches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very scalable. If a company needs to expand it, it should not face any issues doing so.

I am not sure how many users are actually on the solution in our organization.

We will be continuing to use the solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have dealt with technical support and they are very good. We are quite satisfied with their level of service.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did previously use another solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. The implementation is quite straightforward, actually.

As a cloud solution, the deployment doesn't take too long.

What about the implementation team?

I handled the implementation and deployment myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not sure what the licensing is for the solution.

What other advice do I have?

We're just a customer. We don't have a business relationship with Informatica.

We're using the latest version of the solution.

I'd recommend the solution to others. Overall, I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Offers great features; suitable for both technical and business users
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is applicable for both technical and business users."
  • "The cost of the product is high, but feature wise, it provides a whole lot of features that can easily solve your problems."
  • "The ability of the product to leverage the power of big data could be improved."
  • "The ability of the product to leverage the power of big data could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case of this solution is to improve issues of security, quality and accuracy.
We are partners of Informatica and I'm an architect.

What is most valuable?

In terms of Data Quality, the feature most valuable to me is that the solution is applicable for both technical and business users. I like that instead of using on-premises processing power, you can now use your on-cloud platform processing power to process the data and get a faster turnaround time. From a product perspective, everything is well done.

What needs improvement?

I think improvements can be made regarding the ability of the product to leverage the power of big data. It would also help if we could get the software as a services product so that we feed in the requirements and it's a more customized solution. I think that would increase the adoption by customers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Informatica is a very stable product, I haven't had any issues with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a very scalable solution and it has all the other big data components.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have a business partnership with Informatica and they are very responsive.

How was the initial setup?

I've had a lot of experience with this solution so I don't have any issues with implementation. Perhaps someone from a different background or different circumstance, may face challenges but it is user friendly so it shouldn't be a problem. Implementation generally takes about six months depending on the dimensions required. This solution cannot be implemented in a day or a week.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of this solution is definitely at the higher end and they don't provide the option of a trial version. If you look at Talend, for example, they provide a free version, so the cost of IBM and Informatica is a little high.

What other advice do I have?

The cost of the product is high, but feature wise, it provides a whole lot of features that can easily solve your problems. I would recommend this product.

I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

This is a one-stop shop with everything provided in one platform
Pros and Cons
  • "Whether we need data cleansing or data mastering, we get it all in one platform."
  • "The connectivity and their whole suite are valuable features because whether we need data cleansing or data mastering, we get it all in one platform and there's no need to test different cloud vendors and then integrate with one solution since Informatica is a one-stop shop."
  • "Connectivity could be improved, it can be a little slow."
  • "The one thing that I think could be improved is connectivity with the Salesforce because if you're loading a huge amount of data, whatever optimization is carried out, takes some time and it could be a little faster."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for cloud-to-cloud migration so our clients have all applications and data on their Oracle solutions, and we move it from there to AWS cloud and then to Salesforce. We're an implementation partner with Informatica and I'm the senior technical architect in the company.

What is most valuable?

The connectivity and their whole suite are valuable features. Whether we need data cleansing or data mastering, we get it all in one platform. There's no need to test different cloud vendors and then integrate with one solution. Informatica is a one-stop shop.

What needs improvement?

The one thing that I think could be improved is connectivity with the Salesforce because if you're loading a huge amount of data, whatever optimization is carried out, takes some time and it could be a little faster.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had some very minor issues initially, but the product is stable. We haven't experienced any down time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've just completed the first part of the implementation. In the upcoming months we plan to carry out multiple implementations and then we might see some challenges in the scalability. I think it will be fine. I have about 35 users in my team - around 40% are developers, 30% are testers and QAs and then a few are designers, data modelers, and architects.

How are customer service and technical support?

The way we carried out our transformation was throwing some junk value as an output and that meant we had to reach out to Informatica to see what kind of configuration changes might be required. They were pretty quick to respond and knowledgeable about the issue, and dealt with it very well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very simple and took a couple of days. AWS provided everything for us.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We initially wanted to build the programming language in Python but the client's needs made us realize that Informatica was the way to go. Our initial design was something different and it was the cost that put us off going with Informatica as a first choice. If we had worked with something like Python, it could possibly have been more scalable and the cost reduced.

What other advice do I have?

If cost is not a issue then I would recommend Informatica as the tool of choice.

I would rate this product an eight out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)
