They have a lifetime warranty for most products, which is good.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. They have a lot of tools to do the setup. They are also either remote or cloud-based for very technical people, with hands-on scripting, too.
There are Switches where you don't need to do anything and others where you have to do a lot of things because the environment is complex. So you don't know how long it will take.
But the deployment is easy enough. The issue is that the networks get more and more complex so you have to take care of all the details in the programming if you are setting up a complicated network. If you are setting up an easy network, you plug it in to the power and you are there.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
When you buy the product, it has everything inside. Only very special cases require some licenses, but they are quite special and normally you'll have a reason to get these special licenses. So the licenses are quite good.
The license does not cost anything.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Juniper Enterprise Routers a 10.
I would definitely recommend Juniper Enterprise Switches for users who want to integrate it.

What is our primary use case?
We use it as a central router for both 10G and 100G ports. We are an internet exchange, so we need to have a router for connecting our partners. We use Juniper Enterprise Router only in the backbone application. We don't have any end users. Therefore, we don't heavily use access lists or filters, but we bought a firewall card in order to protect our root servers, web servers, etc.
What is most valuable?
It is very stable and scalable.
What needs improvement?
The third-level customer support coming from Juniper itself could be much better. To get assistance from Juniper, we sometimes have to wait for weeks and months. I don't really appreciate that. Their support should be faster.

We are very happy with the local support provided by our local system integrator, but to get assistance from Juniper, we sometimes have to wait for weeks and months. I don't really appreciate that. Their support should be faster.
How was the initial setup?
Our experience is different for different Juniper boxes. The installation was okay for MX100, but it was not that easy for MX200. For QFX5120, it was a nightmare.
We are not an end-user provider. We are a backbone company. Internet exchange is the central point for the internet in every region. We have connected around 10 customers on one router. We have three routers in our network.
What about the implementation team?
It is not a huge installation. You just need two people for its installation. My partner and I have 25 years of experience in the business, and we install it ourselves. We also take support from a system integrator. For the second level of support, we use JTAC.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Juniper Enterprise Routers a ten out of ten. We plan to keep using this solution.

We are a wireless internet service provider that distributes internet service. We deal with two different service providers and the hardware we use includes Juniper Enterprise Routers.
This product is being used as my edge router.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is reliability. The hardware has been very good.
What needs improvement?
The web interface can be improved. It should be more user-friendly. I can't set up everything because it is a little bit hard to use.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the Juniper routers for between four and five months.

I would rate their technical support and eight out of ten. I would like to see a better product library or knowledge base. The manuals are there, but the information is very technical. Having more examples would be helpful.

I also use hardware from MikroTik and Ubiquity. I found that the hardware from MikroTik wasn't very good, and Juniper is more reliable.

The Juniper routers make up the backbone of networks for our customers. The majority of them are service providers, although some of them are enterprise-level organizations.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the capacity and throughput of the firewall. It is measure in terabytes.
The flexibility of the MPLS configuration is very good.
What needs improvement?
If you are setting up a site-to-site VPN between a Juniper and Cisco device then you may encounter some issues. Cisco devices need to use a GRE tunnel, which is not needed on Juniper devices. Juniper runs directly on it, and it is called a Secure Tunnel Interface.
The technical support varies by region and can be slightly improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Juniper Enterprise Routers for around four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
These switches are very stable. I have some customers in banking and other industries in the Arab Gulf areas like the UAE, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia who have been running for more than ten years. Some of the devices need to be phased out, but they are still in production and stable.
As with any other product, you might find bugs. However, it is acceptable and can happen with any vendor. This is one of the crucial areas with Juniper because if you have OneTouch Service, the updates and bulletins are available.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
With respect to scalability, this is one of the best solutions that I have ever seen. I have been deploying solutions for ten years in the Arab Gulf areas like the UAE, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia.
How are customer service and technical support?
The quality of technical support depends on the region. For me, Cisco is number one in technical support, regardless of my preference for products from Palo Alto and Juniper, Cisco is number one in terms of response time and ticket tracking.
With respect to Juniper, I think that they might come in second.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used similar solutions by Cisco and Palo Alto.
The Cisco technical support is superior.
How was the initial setup?
This solution is not difficult to deploy. I would say that it is straightforward. However, the first time somebody does it, they might find it difficult to deploy and configure. This is because they aren't familiar with it. When somebody has the proper training and hands-on experience, it is not that difficult.
If the high-level design and low-level design is in place, and the high availability deployment areas are ready, then it will take approximately two hours to deploy. This time includes production testing that avoids downtime, and we also consider the In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU).
Where I am working now, it is very easy because we have all of the templates. It doesn't take much time. I can imagine that in some enterprise environments they take longer because they are lacking the technical hands, or the tools, or the templates.
What about the implementation team?
I have hands-on experience deploying this solution for our customers.
What other advice do I have?
Juniper is a leading company in MPLS technology and its equipment was one of the first ones that were ready for it. This is why juniper devices are often used by service providers, more so than Cisco devices. Juniper is one of the leaders in deploying the ISSU feature, although it now exists in Cisco and other solutions as well.
Certain Juniper models can be used only for the routing tables, which is important because in some cases, the routing table size is one of the factors.
My advice to anybody who is implementing this solution is to first have the proper training to help understand the product and all of its features. In most cases that I have seen, the company will order the device and are not aware of the features. They might have issues with sizing or getting the wrong product. Customers need to review the products in the context of their requirements and then build the high-level and low-level designs based on those requirements. Absolutely, you should not try to configure the device before completing the training because you need to take security into consideration.
Overall, this is a good device.
I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

It's not that I don't like the product, but I prefer the SDN solutions. It's a good product. My personal preference is for direct, however.
Juniper solutions are very flexible and very good. They offer very good performance. I have no problems with them. I'd feel comfortable recommending the solution. Other companies should try it out.
