User-friendly but its compatibility with other service providers needs improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is very user-friendly."
  • "The compatibility with vendors can be improved. Microsoft Azure heavily uses single software."

What is our primary use case?

Primarily, we use Mule Anypoint Platform for orchestration and workflows.  We also use it when more than two applications have to talk to each other or real-time transactions are required. Another use case is for a triggering mechanism that also requires data transformations.

What is most valuable?

We like it because of its ease of usability. It is a very user-friendly and developer-friendly tool. The maintenance cost is low, and the overall required team size is also optimized.

What needs improvement?

The compatibility with vendors can be improved. Microsoft Azure heavily uses single software.

Compatibility with other services or cloud providers like AWS or GCP is not very well defined. This is an area they need to be a little more cautious about.

Nowadays, everyone is talking about Generative AI, how intelligence can be brought into different systems that are ready. If we talk about Mule Anypoint Platform, the system and data are there, but the integration layers are not very advanced. They should bring in Generative AI and other AI platforms because even it will need a lot of self-building intelligence and decision-making.

They have good competition from cloud providers nowadays. There is a lot of scope and innovation competing in that area.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for three years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Mule Anypoint Platform is quite stable. It is used across many large organizations, and we have not seen many issues with it. I would rate the stability eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability an eight out of ten. Mule Anypoint Platform has great capability around different products, including products within the platform. It is a very decentralized kind of solution that can be scaled to very high levels.

How are customer service and support?

We do connect with support from time to time if there are issues. The technical support is good. They do reply on time and take responsibility.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple enough.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is very expensive. I would rate the pricing six out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

Mule Anypoint Platform can be considered the leader in the market. After being bought over by Salesforce, it now has some added advantages. For any large or mid-level company that is going for multiple applications like SaaS-based applications, ServiceNow and Salesforce, the Mule Anypoint Platform is very useful. Small-scale companies choose other open-source and cloud-native solutions which are much cheaper in cost.

There are other leaders like Dell Boomi and open-source Kafka, but the best part about MuleSoft is the foundation architecture they use which is highly scalable and reliable. The compatibility for the Mule Anypoint Platform is greater than other competitors. I would rate the product seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Scales well, high availability, and convenient to use
Pros and Cons
  • "The community manager is the standout feature of the Mule Anypoint Platform, as it provides a platform to showcase your API to external parties. It is exceptionally user-friendly and enables external parties to easily utilize and consume the APIs."
  • "In order to set up a storefront, we currently rely on a third-party solution. It would greatly enhance our operations if this feature was integrated into their existing solution."

What is our primary use case?

We have a strong presence in various use cases, with the primary focus being on digital integration and API monetization. Our main objective is to help our customers maximize the value of their APIs and generate revenue from them.

How has it helped my organization?

We have adopted an API-led digital transformation approach which has already started delivering value for our clients.

What is most valuable?

The community manager is the standout feature of the Mule Anypoint Platform, as it provides a platform to showcase your API to external parties. It is exceptionally user-friendly and enables external parties to easily utilize and consume the APIs.

What needs improvement?

In order to set up a storefront, we currently rely on a third-party solution. It would greatly enhance our operations if this feature was integrated into their existing solution.

Some of the functionalities are hosted in the cloud, which occasionally poses challenges when integrating with on-premises applications. Improving this aspect could be beneficial for a smoother and more seamless experience.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the Mule Anypoint Platform for approximately one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the Mule Anypoint Platform is excellent.

I rate the stability of the Mule Anypoint Platform a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. One of our large companies that use the solution has not had any problems.

We have between 20 and 30 engineers, developers, and architects using the solution.

I rate the scalability of the Mule Anypoint Platform a ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The support from the vendor is great.

I rate the support of the Mule Anypoint Platform a ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have previously used IBM.

The system we have is straightforward yet highly integrated. It is a single platform, unlike IBM, where they had multiple platforms and systems to deliver similar value. This complexity made the IBM system challenging to navigate as their technical resources had to learn various platforms, including integration and API gateway, which had different formats. Consolidating these platforms into one unified system would simplify management and reduce complexity.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up the Anypoint platform is a very easy process especially when supported by the Catalyst Launch services from MuleSoft.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of our solution is highly competitive. While it may not be categorized as exceptionally low, it is certainly more affordable compared to IBM.

I rate the price of the Mule Anypoint Platform a seven out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We come from IBM Integration Bus background and the decision to adopt Mule was easy after a few engagements with the MuleSoft team.

What other advice do I have?

The initial setup of the Mule Anypoint Platform is simple. My team was trained in only a few weeks. The process of deployment took a couple of hours.

My advice to others is for them to use the catalyst service. They help you get started and gradually let you be on your own.

Mule Anypoint Platform is also highly convenient since my team was able to quickly set up the new team for the initial implementation. Within a few weeks, they began developing independently, gradually reducing the need for external support and focusing on efficiently running the system with internal resources.

I rate the initial setup of the Mule Anypoint Platform a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

Easy to install, helpful technical support, and has good documentation
Pros and Cons
  • "The ability to define multi-tiered APIs and reuse them is a fantastic platform feature."
  • "Code quality, Code Security, SaaS, and DaaS security, can all be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use the Mule Anypoint Platform for API management and integration.

What is most valuable?

I am not an end-user of the platform because I'm an architect, and we simply evaluated and deployed it for the business to use. I am not able to provide platform usage analytics.

The ability to define multi-tiered APIs and reuse them is a fantastic platform feature.

What needs improvement?

Code quality, Code Security, SaaS, and DaaS security, can all be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We recently onboarded and we went live only in the month of February. We are still new to the platform.

We have been working with the Mule Anypoint Platform for just three months.

So far it has been good. We are still evolving for broader usage of the platform.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Mule Anypoint Platform is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We haven't gotten to that layer yet, but I believe it is scalable, based on the description that we have.

It's a new platform, a new setup in Azure, and I don't believe that we have yet met the scalability criteria. We are still attempting to consume the platform's threshold, which we have acquired.

Mule Anypoint Platform is not being used by a single department. It is being used by the entire organization.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is both helpful and supportive.

How was the initial setup?

We used DevOps to deploy. We have set up the pipelines on Azure.

I haven't deployed any directly, but deployments can be done within minutes.

It is easy to set up. We have excellent documentation on the deployment and configuration steps.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not aware of the cost. It is completely managed by the vendor management team.

What other advice do I have?

They should be knowledgeable about their industry. They should leverage the platform's use cases and try to deploy it only when it is required.

I am a client of this product.

I would rate Mule Anypoint Platform an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Flexible, reliable, and has the potential to expand
Pros and Cons
  • "The flexibility has been great overall."
  • "We would like an entire DevOps in place in this particular solution."

What is our primary use case?

It's kind of a hybrid integration. We are trying to connect some of the paths to tie SaaS and on-premise applications together.

How has it helped my organization?

It's basically leveraging the CSP's native IM, which is great.

The stability is good.

It's highly scalable.

The flexibility has been great overall.

What is most valuable?

We would like an entire DevOps in place in this particular solution. Which would help us in terms of automation.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have found the solution to be quite stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would describe the solution as very scalable. If a company needs to expand the product out, it can do so.

What about the implementation team?

As integrators, we can set up the solution for our clients.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We didn't look at other options at the time as the customer wanted this particular solution. We didn't do any comparison shopping.

What other advice do I have?

We are a partner and a systems integrator.

I would advise potential new users to look at the service and target destination, where there is an expectation of automation.

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten based on its overall scalability and flexibility. We're quite happy with it so far.

Allows for synchronous communication between systems but cannot handle larges volumes of data
Pros and Cons
  • "Initial setup was very straightforward. Deployment is a cakewalk."
  • "There are so many solutions like this, but this is not as mature as those products. The other MQ products have the capability of reprocessing and maintaining the persistence of the data. They can handle large volumes and large messages, but Anypoint MQ doesn't have those capabilities."

What is our primary use case?

We transfer data between systems. We are to save the data to make the communication between systems synchronous. We use Anypoint MQ for making the communication synchronous. The source integration component will place the data into Anypoint MQ, and the target company will take it from there.

How has it helped my organization?

Because our customers are moving from on-premise to cloud, it's mostly costs that have been saved and nothing else.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the messaging system.

What needs improvement?

Anypoint MQ is not a pure messaging product. There are so many solutions like this, but this is not as mature as those products. The other MQ products have the capability of reprocessing and maintaining the persistence of the data. They can handle large volumes and large messages, but Anypoint MQ doesn't have those capabilities.

It can only handle a maximum size of 10 megabytes. The other MQ products have a larger capacity. IBM MQ can handle 100 megabytes of data or even solid gigabytes. This doesn't have that capability.

This solution has a lot of gaps. It's not a pure MQ product. We have sort of exposed this product with different protocols like TCP. Also, it has to evaluate these capabilities compared to the other market products.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for four years. The solution is used on an iPaaS cloud provided by MuleSoft.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Anypoint is not as mature as other MQ products.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is under the hood. It is AWS, and it is reliable. It's not user-based. It is automation-based and IT products-based. We have deployed five or six individuals using Anypoint MQ.

This is not a pure provider. It is just a tactical solution cloud. In the long run, we want to go back to square one and use other MQ products like ActiveMQ or IBM MQ because of Anypoint's limitations. For instance, it can't handle more than 10 megabytes of data, and it can't hold more than 50 persistent messages.

Deployment and maintenance are automated. There is an initial automation that is required.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used a stable solution. We moved to this product thinking that the cost would be reduced, but things are not working as expected. We plan to go back to using the old solution.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was very straightforward. Deployment is a cakewalk.

What about the implementation team?

You don't need an explicit skill set for deployment. Anyone can do it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't give you a straightforward answer because sometimes it depends on the usage. If you're going to have fewer than 5 million messages, it is free of cost. If you're going to have more than 5 million messages, you will be charged $100 per month.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution 6 out of 10.

We thought that this was a pure demo product. We moved from IBM to MuleSoft thinking that it would work like IBM, but that's not what happened.

My advice is to try to evaluate the product beforehand and see whether it fits your needs and requirements. Check if it covers all of your use cases. Otherwise, it won't work.

There are a lot of MQ products on the market, but this is suitable for small scale customers and not for large scale.

We haven't switched solutions yet, but the plan is to switch because of this product's limitations. It doesn't cover all the use cases.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

Lacks good functioning at the process level; good for designing and API-based integrations
Pros and Cons
  • "This is a good platform for designing, flowing out APIs, and then doing API-based integrations."
  • "It doesn't work well when you try using it for the processing layer."

What is our primary use case?

We are customers of Mule.

What is most valuable?

This is a good platform for designing, flowing out APIs, and then doing API-based integrations. It also offers a lot of adapters for commercial products like Salesforce, SAP and the like. It has good monitoring abilities. If you use it for API management, security monitoring and things like that, it works well at the experience API layer.

What needs improvement?

One of the issues I have is that Jira tries to be more than an API-based integration platform and it encourages writing of Java-based applications underneath the cover, even though it's not meant to be an app service, so it's slow. That's how they try to sell it. The solution has three layers; the experience layer, the process layer and the system layer. The system layer is used to connect the systems; the process layer can be used to create processes like transformations, logic, etc.; and the experience layer is used to interface with whoever's going to consume it. The problem is that the process layer is not efficient. It acts like an interpreter and interpreters are slow, and if you give it some path like converting to a 100 kilobyte file, it takes 15 times more memory than if I just wrote a program

When you try using it for the processing layer, it doesn't work well. We ended up pulling back to .NET for our own internal microservices that do a lot of processing. We use the .NET microservices as the process layer, because we know it's faster. Then we plug it into Mule to experience the API interface and that's when we need to make a choice, do we put our system APIs right through our microservice, or do we use Mule as a system API layer, but then let it interface with our process API. We just had to make choices.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has threading, but it has the interpreter feature which I think slows it down.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is not great and documentation is sparse. You really have to rely on the community, more experienced MuleSoft users, who know the strengths and weaknesses, rather than relying on the company. You can get an architect to assist with implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's an expensive solution and then you have to try and find a MuleSoft engineer, which is even harder.

What other advice do I have?

The issue seems to be the way they've positioned the product, advocating the experience layer, process layer and system layer through Mule. As it competes with the likes of webMethods, it rates as an eight out of 10. As an end-to-end solution, however, I would rate it a five at best.

A pretty good product that can be used from a small project to a large project
Pros and Cons
  • "Overall, it is a pretty good product. It is also very scalable."
  • "Its documentation needed a little bit of work to make it more usable. It is a platform that is used mainly by developers and other people for connecting systems. Its documentation was confusing in some areas and was not very helpful in other areas. I had to go to a consultant to get some work done, which ideally shouldn't be required."

What is our primary use case?

I used it in my previous company. We were using it to build a middleware layer to connect a lot of systems together. Oracle and Salesforce were the two primary systems that were being done. We were building it out so that we could hook in any of the ERP systems that we had at that company. So, the use case was to be able to connect systems and do process integration across multiple ERP systems.

What is most valuable?

Overall, it is a pretty good product. It is also very scalable.

What needs improvement?

Its documentation needed a little bit of work to make it more usable. It is a platform that is used mainly by developers and other people for connecting systems. Its documentation was confusing in some areas and was not very helpful in other areas. I had to go to a consultant to get some work done, which ideally shouldn't be required.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very scalable. It can be used from a small project to a large project.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Mule Anypoint Platform an eight out of ten.
