I use the solution since it is a low-code platform. I am more into the BFSI domain. Most of the projects that have dealt with revolve around the banking sector. I have used the product for web development and mobile applications. My company has worked on a mobile app for a bank's core processes. My company took care of the website part of the bank with the help of OutSystems. My company also operates with other clients who operate in the banking sector. My company has also dealt with the insurance domain and mutual funds.

Offers great user support and community engagement
Pros and Cons
- "In terms of user support and community engagement, I rate the tool a ten out of ten."
- "The product's high price is an area of concern, where improvements are required."
What is our primary use case?
What needs improvement?
The product's high price is an area of concern, where improvements are required. OutSystems should play around with the market or with its competitors. A lot of the clients feel that the license cost of OutSystems is way too high than the prices of its competitors.
In the future, I want OutSystems to offer support for which they should not charge any money from users. If a client is new to OutSystems and has taken a license for two or three years, I believe that the solution should provide free support for a year.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using OutSystems for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight or nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
When it comes to the scalability part and its impact on our organization's growth, I can say that the development and implementation timelines are minimalistic, which is something that is good. It is pretty easy to implement anything that a specific client wants with the help of OutSystems. It doesn't take years to implement something with OutSystems since such areas can be dealt with quickly.
From migration to adding internal applications is easy with the product. The platform is very adjustable based on the requirements. The customization levels offered by the product are good. It is possible to distribute the loads in OutSystems.
My company deals with around ten customers who use the product.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have experience with high-code platforms like Java and Clutter.
How was the initial setup?
The product's setup is more of a PnP procedure, making it an easy process. I feel that the setup process can be a bit complex at an architectural level.
The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.
The number of people required for the deployment and maintenance of the product depends on the product that is used. If a business entity has multiple business units, it takes a longer time to implement the product. In general, my company has a team of around 15 to 20 people to take care of the implementation process.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The clients who use OutSystems feel that it is a bit expensive.
There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to OutSystems. It is an expensive product.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I don't see any differences between Java and Clutter or OutSystems since I use different products depending on the requirements of our company's clients. I don't get the clients to choose a particular platform, but my company recommends OutSystems. Not all of our company's clients prefer OutSystems.
What other advice do I have?
The product's scalability is very good. The tool offers easy integration with multiple platforms.
The product's features and speeding up the application development process stem from the fact that the capabilities provided by the tool are not limited. The whole platform, user experience, and implementation time are good.
The interface of OutSystems has impacted our company's development workflow since it is very user-friendly. I rate the product's interface a four out of five.
Though OutSystems is an expensive product. If an organization wants better dynamics when it comes to a particular platform, I would recommend OutSystems to such companies.
In terms of user support and community engagement, I rate the tool a ten out of ten.
The value and positive impact experience from the use of the solution stems from the fact that it works very well when it comes to load balancing. The product is also easily configurable.
I rate the overall tool a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

- "The solution's testing framework needs to be improved, and the workflow should be slightly more mature."
What is our primary use case?
OutSystems has use cases in the health care, accounting, banking, insurance, and automotive industries.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of OutSystems are the user interface, the flexibility to quickly integrate with almost anything in the system, and the ability to connect with databases.
What needs improvement?
The solution's testing framework needs to be improved, and the workflow should be slightly more mature. The solution should use generative AI capabilities.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using OutSystems for nine years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We haven’t faced any issues with the solution’s stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
OutSystems is a scalable solution. The solution is auto-scalable regarding the number of users or the volume of data.
I have created an application which is being used by almost 2,00,000 users. That was done for some kind of enterprise wide application where it is being used across the globe. That's the maximum number of users I have created an application for.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's technical support is quite useful, but it takes a good amount of time to get a solution from them. The technical support is not so quick and could be faster.
How was the initial setup?
The solution’s initial setup is straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented the solution through an in-house team. Depending on the size of the application, the solution's deployment hardly takes a few minutes.
What was our ROI?
With the solution, I have seen around 80% to 90% increase in the return on investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
OutSystems is a very expensive solution, and it has to be cheaper. Users have to pay a yearly licensing fee for the solution.
What other advice do I have?
I have used the solution for both web and mobile application development. In the healthcare domain, we used the solution to create a mobile application related to patient care. We also used the solution to create web applications, including banking and in-house enterprise applications.
It hardly takes around six resources, including developers, for a typical project which goes for around six months. I would recommend the solution to other users. I rate the solution a nine out of ten for user support and community engagement.
Since I've worked with the solution for nine years, I'm well aware of its visibility. I will promote the solution if the business needs align with what can be achieved with OutSystems.
Overall, I rate OutSystems an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

It is a stable solution. I have not had any issues with bugs or the product breaking down.

I have experience with Mendix, PowerApps, and Power Automate. The UI and UX of OutSystems are better than Mendix. The UI of OutSystems is easy to understand.
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup phase was easy.
The solution can be deployed in a week or two.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is not an expensive product, especially if you have access to more features and deal with more projects.

Solution Architect and LowCode Practice Lead at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
Outsystems has been ranked as No 1 market Leader in Low Code No Code space 5 consecutive times in 2023 by Gartner
Pros and Cons
- "The architecture of OutSystems is quite simple, and the features are similar to Mendix's. OutSystems has connectors for different enterprise apps and solid reporting capabilities. You can also integrate with any content management platform like SharePoint or Adobe Enterprise Manager, or something like that. You can also create and integrate workflows."
- "We'd like OutSystems to add stronger workflow-based automation similar to what Appian offers. It needs more workflow modeling and RPA features."
What is our primary use case?
We use OutSystems for the same purpose as Mendix, but we recommend Mendix for mobile applications and OutSystems for B2C or B2B web portals. OutSystems has strong features for creating web-based portals or eCommerce marketplaces.
Mendix supports Java, while OutSystems supports .NET. We are using the latest versions of OutSystems. We are partnered with Mendix and OutSystems. We have access to their partner portal, so we don't need to worry about developing applications, proofs of concept, or prototypes using OutSystems.
OutSystems has on-premise and cloud versions. It can be deployed on AWS, Azure, or GCP. OutSystems is available as a Platform-as-a-Service, as well. OutSystems can be hosted on Azure, GCP, or AWS, and you can deploy OutSystems components on OutSystems PaaS.
What is most valuable?
The architecture of OutSystems is quite simple, and the features are similar to Mendix's. OutSystems has connectors for different enterprise apps and solid reporting capabilities. You can also integrate with any content management platform like SharePoint or Adobe Enterprise Manager, or something like that. You can also create and integrate workflows.
What needs improvement?
We'd like OutSystems to add stronger workflow-based automation similar to what Appian offers. It needs more workflow modeling and RPA features.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using OutSystems for the last three years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Like Mendix, OutSystems has a highly scalable and flexible architecture.
How are customer service and support?
We are an OutSystems partner, so I have an excellent rapport with alliance managers and their technical architecture team and technical support. They're incredibly supportive. I rate OutSystems eight out of 10.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are using almost all the local solutions, including OutSystems, Mendix, Appian, etc.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up OutSystems is straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
OutSystems isn't expensive. It's very similar to the cost of Mendix. If customers have a good relationship with OutSystems or Mendix, they can get a better price. The solutions have a similar pricing model, including licenses for single or multiple users.
What other advice do I have?
I rate OutSystems nine out of 10. OutSystems is the market leader in the local area space on the Gartner Magic Quadrant. As a user, I can say OutSystems is on par with Mendix, and the features are similar, so now it depends on the use case.
For example, some customers prefer Mendix because they have SAP ecosystems, so they will go with Mendix because it offers native SAP support. Mendix has SAP adapters that are all license-free. These are cost reasons people might choose Mendix. However, there are some cases where an SAP might go for OutSystems because the license is a bit cheaper.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have used some local platforms before.

What was our ROI?
The return on investment is difficult to measure, but the time to market is much faster.
What other advice do I have?
OutSystems has a lot of traction in Portugal. We are studying Mendix and Appian to see if they could be adequate in some cases. Some clients don't have the capacity to support OutSystems, or they might be using other tools. We want to adapt to other platforms and tools. Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Manager India Sales at Nitor
Enables users to develop applications quickly and has a responsive and helpful technical support team
Pros and Cons
- "We can quickly develop an application using the tool."
- "The installation is a bit tedious."
What is our primary use case?
Our clients mainly use the solution for business process automation, workflow automation, and application development. They also use the tool to build a layer between their existing ERPs, like SAP and Salesforce, and the applications they use for business functions, like finance and HR. It is a bridging solution between the ERP and other applications.
What is most valuable?
The time to market is quite good. We can quickly develop an application using the tool. OutSystems is developed using .NET and Java. We can easily find technical resources who have worked on .NET and Java and leverage their previous knowledge to develop OutSystems applications. It can also be used for application development. If an end-user does not want to use the solution after two to three years, OutSystems sends the source code and the applications to the end-user. There is no dependency. It’s one of the major factors I found quite good in OutSystems.
What needs improvement?
The installation is a bit tedious.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been partners with the product for the last two years. We are dealing with the latest version of the solution.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The tool is very stable. I rate the stability a nine to nine and a half out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have around 60 clients in India. We have more than 35 people, including 20 developers, three to four senior developers, and one or two architects in our technical team. I rate the scalability a nine out of ten. The tool is very scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support team is responsive and helpful.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The installation is a bit tedious, but it can be done. If we use the cloud solution, we can immediately leverage AWS and use it. Customizing the product according to a customer’s server requirements could take five to six working days.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The customers have to pay for licensing and application development. Once they buy the product, they must also engage a technical team to develop applications until their internal team is certified and can develop applications on its own. OutSystems takes care of the maintenance. It is included in the licensing agreement. The solution is expensive. I rate the product’s cost a two or three out of ten. Not everyone can afford OutSystems.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We have evaluated Mendix as an alternative to OutSystems.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend the product to others. Overall, I rate the tool a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

A scalable tool for developing mobile and web applications
Pros and Cons
- "It is a scalable solution...The initial setup of OutSystems is easy."
- "In OutSystems, cloud management is an area of concern where improvements are required."
What is our primary use case?
My company uses OutSystems for developing mobile applications and web applications.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is a low-code tool with which it becomes very fast for users to create something and to show the creation to the customer much faster than any other technology.
What needs improvement?
In OutSystems, cloud management is an area of concern where improvements are required. Searching through the logs is an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required in OutSystems.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using OutSystems for half a year. My company has a partnership with OutSystems, and we have a lot of certified engineers.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
OutSystems has some issues with stability. When OutSystems is used as an enterprise solution or has millions of users, then there are some stability problems with your stability. When millions of users use your application, the management of the databases and caching systems is sometimes not that efficient in OutSystems.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution.
My company deals with small and medium-sized businesses.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's technical support is good, especially owing to its documentation part. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of OutSystems is easy.
The solution can be deployed in a few hours.
The solution is deployed on the cloud. A user gets access to the user interface and some applications that you can install on Windows, making it a process that one person can do.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
OutSystems is an expensive product. My company has to make monthly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. I am unsure about how much my company spends towards the solution's costs, but its cost runs into thousands of euros. There are some additional costs towards which certain payments are to be made, considering that one needs to pay for the end user who uses the solution.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I know about the competitors of OutSystems. I didn't choose any of the competitors of OutSystems since it was a product that already existed in my company.
What other advice do I have?
A person is required to maintain the solution.
If someone needs to show their customers really fast results of the development phase of an application, OutSystems is a very good solution that is expensive at the same time.
I rate the overall tool an eight out of ten.

APAC Head Of Delivery @ Do iT Lean at Do iT Lean
Great for building web and mobile applications, suitable for large enterprises and small to mid-sized businesses across different industries
Pros and Cons
- "I find it to be a genuinely cool and effective platform for my development needs."
- "I would like to see OutSystems improve its integration capabilities, especially with emerging technologies like AI and GPT."
What is our primary use case?
OutSystems is a versatile development platform that I find incredibly useful for various purposes. It is great for building both web and mobile applications, making it suitable for large enterprises and small to mid-sized businesses across different industries like banking, healthcare, manufacturing, and more. With its visual development, pre-built components, and easy maintenance, OutSystems has significantly expedited software development in my experience, offering a rapid and efficient solution for a wide range of applications.
What is most valuable?
In comparison to other local development platforms, OutSystems is quite advanced. While every platform can benefit from ongoing enhancements, OutSystems seems to have most of the features I, as a software professional, would look for. I have started working with it, and I find it to be a genuinely cool and effective platform for my development needs.
What needs improvement?
OutSystems is already on the right track for improvements. They plan to transition from their cloud platform to a cloud-native architecture, emphasizing infrastructure scalability and the integration of Docker containers, which is a positive step forward. I would also like to see OutSystems improve its integration capabilities, especially with emerging technologies like AI and GPT. Integrating with AI and GPT models could enhance OutSystems' functionality and help it easily adapt to new trends and concepts in connectivity and artificial intelligence in future releases.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using OutSystems since 2011.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability of OutSystems as a ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
OutSystems supports both horizontal and vertical scaling, and I find it quite easy to scale applications when needed. Adding a front-end server to a cluster, for instance, is a straightforward task that takes just a few minutes. As long as you follow OutSystems' recommended application composition and architecture, scalability is not a problem, and I would rate it a solid ten out of ten for scalability. In our company, around eighteen to nineteen developers are actively using OutSystems to develop applications for our customers. For mid-sized applications with OutSystems, you don't require large teams. OutSystems encourages small teams to use agile methodology. Typically, you need an engagement manager, a tech lead, and two to three developers for a medium-sized project. Additionally, a solution architect may be necessary initially, and then one tech lead and two developers are often sufficient for ongoing work.
How are customer service and support?
I have had a positive experience with OutSystems' tech support. They offer a guided learning path, well-structured documentation, and a valuable component repository called Forge. Their community is also quite active, with fellow users and even OutSystems champions and family members providing assistance. In addition, they have a stable support process where you can create a support ticket, and the OutSystems team will reach out to help with any issues. Overall, I'm satisfied with the support available from OutSystems through their various resources.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up OutSystems is straightforward, and even citizen developers can quickly learn and start building software with it. While complex applications may require professional expertise, OutSystems provides numerous prebuilt components and features, such as UI components for creating beautiful interfaces and easy database design tools, making it accessible even for those without extensive design or development experience. It is also user-friendly when it comes to handling logic, integrating with third-party services, and working with APIs. Overall, I find it to be a great and user-friendly platform for software development. The deployment process in OutSystems involves using a tool called Lifetime, which acts as a control console for managing different environments. When you purchase an OutSystems license, you typically receive three environments: development, QA, and production, along with a separate Lifetime environment. Lifetime keeps track of application versions and modules deployed on servers in each environment. It alerts you when an environment is outdated compared to a new version in development. Lifetime also checks references and other prerequisites before deploying releases from one environment to another, making the deployment process straightforward and well-managed.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
OutSystems licenses are not cheap, but they fall within the range of standard pricing. It is not very expensive or overly budget-friendly; it is more in the middle, making it an average-cost option for organizations.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before using OutSystems, I explored other tools like APN and Automation Anywhere. However, I found OutSystems to be the best fit because it offers both rapid application development and flexibility. Unlike some other tools, OutSystems allows you to integrate with third-party libraries and technologies like .NET, Java, BigQuery, and more, making it a more flexible and easily adaptable platform.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend OutSystems to others. Overall, I would rate it as a ten out of ten.
