What is our primary use case?
I use the software primarily for statistics. I have used it on census data from the UK, which covers millions of individuals. Additionally, I have utilized it for surveys and educational purposes, such as predicting student dropout rates.
What is most valuable?
RStudio Connect is very powerful statistically and can handle large datasets, even on a free version on a laptop. It offers excellent customer service and educational resources. KNIME allows for visual data manipulation, with nodes representing operations, making it user-friendly and effective for statistical analysis and predictions. I appreciate its ability to integrate R or Python scripts, combining ease of use with powerful procedures.
What needs improvement?
It could work on visibility or improve that. In RStudio Connect, the learning process is not as graphical as KNIME. Although I can get good graphical results in reports, the way I learn it is not graphical.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Even with the free version on a laptop, the software is scalable. While it takes a little longer to run, it can handle large projects, such as census data with millions of individuals.
How are customer service and support?
RStudio Connect offers a community hub as the main form of support for the free version. I have submitted two requests, and both were answered correctly within 24 hours. They are commendable for their educational resources, including numerous videos and a TV channel.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used SPSS before it was acquired by IBM. I switched to KNIME because it offers closer interaction with the data and allows seamless integration of various statistical procedures.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Both KNIME and RStudio Connect are free to use on a laptop. However, if I want to use a big server version, it is subsidized.
What other advice do I have?
I rate my experience with RStudio Connect as average because I am not yet comfortable enough to provide a definitive assessment. I prefer to use KNIME but acknowledge that RStudio Connect can be useful for producing R code. If there's something that KNIME cannot do but R can do, I would use R. I would rate the overall solution as 5 out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
