The threat detection feature on Sysdig Secure stands out compared to other solutions I have seen or used because Sysdig sees the actual behavior inside the container or kernel and correlates it with Kubernetes infrastructure, which makes detection both earlier and more precise in a cloud-native environment.
Sysdig Secure has positively impacted our organization by improving visibility into our Kubernetes environment and focusing on real risk, which has reduced alert noise, improved threat detection at runtime, and made vulnerability management more efficient by prioritizing issues that actually affect running workloads.
Sysdig Secure works well for us, but there are a few areas for improvement, such as the alerting and notification system being more flexible for complex workflows, and some dashboard and reporting features could be more customizable to match specific team needs.

My main use case for Sysdig Secure involves deploying microservices that contain a lot of Docker images, and Sysdig Secure helps me identify the vulnerabilities associated with these images and provides me the fix version for them, which is really helpful in staying on track of our vulnerability weaknesses.
I can use Sysdig Secure along with our CI/CD pipeline as a stage to ensure that even when the code has been checked into the repo, it has been checked for quality, specifically to ensure that the resultant image has no vulnerabilities.
The best features Sysdig Secure offers include a very intuitive UI that clearly shows me what images have what vulnerabilities and how I can fix them, indicating where the issues are and what I should upgrade to, thus helping us stay ahead of all the vulnerabilities.
Sysdig Secure's API is a main feature I have used, allowing me to integrate it to scan a list of images and output the result in the form of an Excel sheet or a CSV with details on high vulnerability criticality, making it useful in a GitLab project to ensure that new images added to the repo do not have any critical vulnerabilities.
Sysdig Secure has positively impacted our organization by helping us keep track of the vulnerabilities in our images, making it easy to manage and upgrade the packages we need based on the clear guidance Sysdig Secure provides on what to do and where.

Sysdig Secure does everything from a detection point of view, telling me the vulnerabilities I have and where they are located, and I believe that if Sysdig Secure creates an LLM tool that could automatically fix those vulnerabilities in the repo, it would be really helpful.

We use Sysdig for cloud and Kubernetes posture management, including Kubernetes workload security, image vulnerabilities, and pipeline vulnerabilities. We use it across 2 of our cloud vendors: AWS and GCP.
Sysdig helps us improve the maturity of our cloud and Kubernetes posture. Before implementing Sysdig, we did not have alot of visibility into what our developers were doing. We had lots of observability tools, but we didn't have any security observability tools. We wanted to ensure we could see what was being done from a configuration standpoint and compare that to best practices. We also wanted to detect and respond to any threats that might appear on the Kubernetes side of things.
It allows us to fill any gaps within our configuration. We don't have regulatory compliance requirements within our business, but we still want to adopt the best practices, and Sysdig enables us to identify gaps efficiently. Sysdig has its own ranking to push the critical priorities to the top. We can apply these standards, like ISO, CIS, NIST, etc., to improve the security posture in our cloud or Kubernetes environment.
Sysdig is user-friendly. Many other vendors we seriously considered had vast, complicated interfaces. Sysdig makes it quick and easy to do what you need to do. That's one thing I like about the platform, It takes you seconds to find what you want. There are not a lot of submenus or complex UI components.
The other valuable feature is runtime detection. The enhanced visibility they have within Kubernetes is longer than the workload. The visibility and the depth of information make a security professional's job a lot easier. It helps us sleep at night because we know that can get information about threats that we need when we need it.
Sysdig's biggest weakness is dashboarding and reporting. You already have access to the data and can get everything you need, but we also need the ability to summarize the information quickly in a format that senior leaders can understand. We report to the executive level and global board. I need to roll all that in-depth information into a quick summary, and their maturity level isn't there. I'm seeing that on the future road map, but it isn't there now.
We have used Sysdig for about 8 months.
We haven't faced any performance problems or downtime, which is one reason we selected Sysdig. The competitors are so slow. It takes 3 or 4 times longer to open their platforms than it would open Sysdig.
Sysdig is incredibly scalable from the perspective of adding accounts and clusters. We do everything in code, so that makes it easy for us. We add it to the right repo, and it just pushes it out. We haven't had many scalability problems.
We don't have hundreds of thousands of accounts or clusters. We're relatively small—around 150 clusters. Because our guys have done everything in code, it's quite easy for us to scale up and down when required.
I rate Sysdig support 8 out of 10. We have an assigned Sysdig Solutions Architect who we meet with every 2 weeks. He goes above and beyond. He's extremely attentive to our tenancy and requirements. I get messages from him saying, "Oh, I've been working on this. Here's a solution to that thing you're talking about." or 'I've just checked these reports for you and found this."
The proactiveness of the support has been fantastic. Every time we mention something in a meeting that we're trying to do, he proactively takes that as an investigation topic and looks into it. He'll provide the solution even though we might not have asked him to investigate it. He's my main source of product support, but we also go through the service desk for more BAU requests and problems.

The deployment is straightforward on the Sysdig side, but internal politics always make things difficult. The instructions to deploy are simple. It took less than an hour to deploy it across our entire environment. We have two cloud engineers responsible for deploying and maintaining it.
Like everything, Sysdig requires maintenance after deployment. I've been in tech for more than a decade, and we're always hoping for a product that we don't need to worry about after deployment. No matter what product it is, there's always maintenance to some degree, but it isn't a headache.
It comes down to proactive account management. Sysdig contacts us directly when they roll out updates. I'm happy to sit on the call and run through what needs to be done or any concerns. There is obviously some type of maintenance we need to do on the product over time. It isn't too difficult.
Sysdig is competitive. The quality matches the pricing. Obviously, everyone wants things to be cheaper, but if you're realistic, you acknowledge that quality service comes with a price. Sysdig is the gold standard for Kubernetes, and I wouldn't choose anything else. We live in Kubernetes. Everything is containerized, so that means a lot to us, and we're willing to make an investment.
Other businesses I know are only getting started with Kubernetes, so cost might hold them back, but Sysdig's rules engine is open source, so you can try some of their core features for free.
In addition to Sysdig, we looked at Aqua Security, Palo Alto, Check Point, and Wiz. Check Point and Palo Alto had complicated interfaces like they had acquired and smashed other products into one interface. One of them was using Sysdigs open-source engine that they had implemented incorrectly, so we decided if others are using Sysdig's engine we might as well go to Sysdig to get the best experience.
We decided not to go with Wiz because it was more compliance-focused and didn't have much to offer in the container security space. We're more focused on container security than posture management and compliance. That was more like an add-on for us. Aqua was ridiculously expensive, and we didn't feel like we were getting more value than we would from Sysdig.
I rate Sysdig 8 out of 10. If you're looking for a Kubernetes security platform, Sysdig is the market leader.

We use Sysdig Secure to gain visibility into our runtime workloads. We use a whole bunch of security tools to scan our images before they get deployed into our production clusters. We needed a tool to give us runtime visibility and threat detection.
By implementing Sysdig Secure, we were trying to see any gaps. When an image is running, we wanted to see if any high or medium-scale vulnerabilities were picked up during the scanning and were running in a live workflow. We understood that we had a gap there. If there was a threat for us, we wanted to make sure that we knew and that we could scan our environment for any zero-day threats or vulnerabilities in general.
The main benefit for me personally is being able to articulate the ever-growing, dynamic, and constantly changing landscape. Just today, in a management leadership call, I was able to demonstrate that although we are solving a lot of these vulnerabilities, we are picking up new vulnerabilities each and every day. It allows me to articulate the importance of information security with actual real-time data.
Sysdig's runtime insights help us detect and respond to threats that are happening in real-time. We can look at Sysdig dashboards or run reports to see precisely what happens in our runtime environment. A good use case of this was that when zero-day vulnerabilities came out, we could scan our environment to see if the vulnerabilities apply to any of our production workloads.
Sysdig Secure helps us prioritize issues and distribute work. We are a small company, so we do not have multiple security or dev teams. We have two or three guys on my team. Having the ability to focus on critical vulnerabilities is crucial. It does not make sense to prioritize low-level threats when we have limited time.
We do not use live threat investigation features as much as we would like because of different priorities, but it is something that we do use. Over time, it shows us whether we are putting the right effort into resolving issues. For example, when we look at the dashboard scene over a 30-day period, we can see whether the critical vulnerabilities are increasing or decreasing. It lets us know whether we are on the right track.
We are currently using agentless scanning. Deploying it onto our cluster has enabled us to get full visibility into what is running on our cluster.
Sysdig provides us with the contextual awareness we need to create an immediate incident response strategy. It provides links to the threat and explains the threat and the resolution possible. It equips us with the right information to make a decision on whether to address the threat immediately or take a risk in terms of deploying remediation.
Sysdig has not enabled us to reduce the number of security tools we use. We were not using anything before Sysdig, and after choosing Sysdig, we did not have a need to look at anything else.
Sysdig has not helped reduce external SOC costs. We are a very small business, so we do not have the budget for an external SOC. However, it has definitely alleviated the pressure to look for one and to source an external SOC. We have a project history to look at a virtual SOC and leverage tools that we do have, and Sysdig is a part of that. There is definitely a saving there because we have not had the need to go out and look for an external SOC.
Sysdig has helped reduce the percentage of workloads that have security exposures that put the organization at risk. It has reduced the workload, mainly from an understanding of where we can assign work to cover the most ground in terms of resolving vulnerabilities.
The most valuable feature is the level of support that we get. Our solutions or customer success representative is very valuable. I see them as an extension of our security team. In terms of the product itself, it is able to very clearly give us where we are in terms of security and threats in the environment.
Reporting can definitely be better. Live dashboards should be configurable for a longer period of time rather than 30 days. Being able to go back in time to compare six months ago to today would be valuable.
We have used Sysdig Secure for a few years. We have probably gone through two renewals.
It has been extremely stable. We have never had any issues with it. I would rate it a ten out of ten for stability.

The use case involves a robust security tool. We conducted evaluations of numerous tools to enhance our security measures. This assessment extended beyond just the systems. We also considered Falco, their open-source version, and Sysdig Falco Platform. Notably, the Falco Platform is integrated into the Sysdig Secure product. The central theme here is security in the context of Sysdig Secure. This tool offers security solutions for various domains including containerized platforms, virtual machines, VDI setups, and safeguarding code repositories like GitHub and Bitbucket. Furthermore, the tool provides insights that stand out distinctly from other products available today. Despite using Microsoft Defender for our virtual machines, it doesn't match up to the comprehensive outcomes delivered by Sysdig Secure. The tool furnishes detailed reports on aspects such as Intrusive Communication, thread level, process level, network level, specific ports, ingress and egress traffic, etc. This comprehensive vantage point empowers vigilant monitoring of all activities within the environment.
Absolutely, it has proven to be highly advantageous, which justifies the investment despite the substantial cost of the software. The primary benefit lies in the in-depth insights it provides at a granular level. It begins from the initial deployment of workloads and extends to details like thread level and syscal level. This includes intricate information on the syscal events, the associated user, the process ID, the accessed ports, and the network level involved. What's noteworthy is that this level of insight isn't limited to real-time monitoring; historical data is also available. This allows for the examination of past events, such as the causes of downtime or failures.
Moreover, they offer a feature to enable data capture, known as "Sysdig capture." This captures data for a specified period before and after an event, typically five minutes. The captured data can then be analyzed. This includes a comprehensive view of file system activities, IO operations, network interactions, process behavior, thread actions, and more. This comprehensive data analysis aids in pinpointing the root causes of various issues. This aspect of their offering provides another significant advantage.
The tool has the capability to conduct scans initially. It can perform scans on your virtual machines, physical machines, containers, and container images. A standout feature is its ability to scan offline container images stored in your container registry. Additionally, it can scan runtime images in your cluster or on your host machine. This allows for the detection of vulnerabilities in running containers, including loaded libraries. Notably, the tool can identify which library vulnerabilities are already present in your system. An added advantage is its capacity to take action beyond threat detection. It has the ability to block access and respond to encountered threats.
There was a security concern related to a specific feature. While the feature itself was promising, it posed a challenge. The situation revolved around code scanning. If your source code is hosted within your own premises, say on Bitbucket, you naturally wouldn't want your code to be accessible to external parties beyond your company. Keeping your code base private is a standard practice.
However, in the case of code scanning using Sysdig Secure, they copy your code to their SaaS platform. This posed an issue for us. When we inquired about this, their response acknowledged the concern. In an upcoming release, they plan to enable code scanning within your on-premises environment through the assistance of an agent. This change is already in progress. While this tool stands out compared to existing solutions in the market, it's important to note that there are still some limitations to consider.
Another drawback we encountered relates to our expertise with Kubernetes. The tool can monitor Kubernetes audit logs, triggering alerts and notifications. However, it falls short in terms of taking direct action based on these alerts. There are different methods of event capture, including through system level and system calls, as well as via Kubernetes audit events. Notably, at the system level, Sysdig Secure can both detect and respond to events, allowing actions like blocking and warning. This proactive approach is effective at the system call level. However, when it comes to monitoring Kubernetes audit events, Sysdig Secure can only notify without being able to execute any further actions. It can't block access or containers. The vendor likened their role to that of a monitoring camera, observing events and sending notifications without the capacity to intervene. This limitation applies to Kubernetes audit events. Given that everything operates within our system, there is a workaround available: configuring system-level policies to block containers as necessary.
I have been using Sysdig Secure for two and a half months and our company is currently planning to purchase.

They were well aware of our potential purchase, so their responsiveness was quite high. Even though the initial free trial was for thirty days, they essentially extended it to an unlimited timeframe. I can still access it, and it's functioning well. The process was swift, and we engaged in several support calls during that period.

The process isn't straightforward, as it involves setting up multiple components and deploying around six or seven parts. Handling this on-premises can be quite cumbersome. I wouldn't describe it as extremely complex, but it does carry a level of complexity. It was a long process as the configuration involved various internal aspects such as firewalls and URL access. This process took approximately a week, considering the need to establish the necessary access due to our on-premises setup.
We were particularly interested in deploying the solution on-premises due to our internal requirements. We were hesitant about opting for the SaaS platform due to data transfer concerns. However, an issue we encountered was that the on-premises version has a delay of six months compared to their SaaS offering. To address this, they proposed an alternative solution. If we have an AWS environment or a similar setup on our on-premises infrastructure, they can assist us in hosting the solution there. This introduces a distinct deployment model with three options: on-premises, SaaS, and a hybrid model that leverages our existing AWS setup.
It was an in-house setup done by me by installing Sysdig secure agent on my Kubernetes cluster.

We employ SQL for vulnerability scanning, compliance scanning, security intrusion detection, and drift detection.
We appreciate this feature, especially when combined with CD monitoring. The implementation of requested features has been remarkable, such as scanning for compliance in CRM processes for the US government. We heavily rely on this feature to assess compliance with federal requirements.
Perhaps, it could support more custom implementations, as our company utilizes custom implementations rather than standard ones. Configuring it requires a deep understanding and adjustment to our specific needs, which took some time. Other than that, I'm unsure about potential improvements.
We were considering the possibility of compartmentalizing their tools. Currently, in Sysdig Secure, they bundle multiple features, and we are unable to use them individually. For instance, if we only need compliance scanning, we have to deploy the entire secure package. This is because of the way their agent functions, but I can't delve into more details.
Currently, I would rate it around nine to ten. In the past, it was approximately five to six. There have been significant improvements in the last two weeks.
It heavily depends on the features used. We've encountered some bottlenecks due to the architecture of the agent, but I can't elaborate. Other than that, we're using Kubernetes with over thirty thousand services on the masters, and it can handle all of them. Thus far, we haven't come across anything that comprehensively covers all the features Sysdig Secure has, while also maintaining the same level of support and documentation.
Initially, it was challenging. The documentation was insufficient, but over the years, there has been significant improvement. They now offer comprehensive, step-by-step documentation, including Helm Charts, making deployment, especially for those using Helm, quite straightforward in my opinion.We initially began with on-premises deployment but later transitioned to the cloud due to engineering resource constraints, finding it more manageable to handle.
The on-premises deployment took a few days, given its complexity. Now, deploying upgrades or similar tasks takes a maximum of two hours, including testing.
In comparison to other cloud solutions, it's reasonably priced. However, when compared to in-house built open-source projects, it might be considered somewhat costly. The cost depends on whether someone sees the support provided by Sysdig as an advantage or if it's deemed unnecessary. Personally, I find the support to be excellent and consider it a good value.
I would offer the same advice to anyone considering a new product—always compare and weigh the pros and cons based on your specific use case. Overall, I would rate it 8 out of 10.
