Trend Micro Web Security [EOL] Reviews

In my experience with Trend Micro over 20 years, I was able to offer my complete support in case of a security incident for free, and I never got into trouble because if the product is properly installed and configured, this never happens.

Trend Micro Web Security is a great product. It is compatible with anything on the market in my opinion. It is very competitive and very flexible. This is a product which Trend Micro has offered for at least 20 years, and it has always been top of the line.

With all Trend Micro products, if Trend Micro has the technology, because sometimes with zero-day exploits, Trend Micro is not the first to discover them. However, with Zero Trust because Trend Micro leads the Zero Trust initiative organization, which is responsible for 74% of all discovered vulnerabilities, in my view, this means that Trend Micro discovers any vulnerability three out of four times first. Sitting on this knowledge, I can say that each Trend Micro product which has these technologies integrated is one of the best possible technologies to stop real-time threats.

I would rate Trend Micro Web Security a nine, but not because I have some issues in mind. I have only seen a bit better product. I was also a McAfee partner some time ago, when there was still McAfee. Some features definitely in McAfee were better than what I see in Trend Micro.

I cannot tell what Trend Micro could learn from web security products of their competitors because this product has not existed for at least eight years now for McAfee, and I have no experience with other competitors. But relative to my experience and expertise, I should rate it a ten, but still I am a bit cautious because other products also have great features and these features are not covered 100% by Trend Micro.

I cannot tell what additional features I would like to see in the next release, but when I see such a feature, it is very compelling. When you get into a new car and this car has something new and great, adaptive suspension, whatever, you just feel a nice feeling and you want this car. That is how I feel. I have not complained that something is missing from Trend Micro product, but I have seen in specific examples some great ideas in competition.

In my experience with Trend Micro over 20 years, I have used their solutions extensively.

I would rate the technical support by Trend Micro a three.

The response time is poor. I cannot exactly tell the reason, but we always have to depend on our connections with the distributor and regional account management from Trend Micro in case of technical issues. This is not completely great because if we create a technical incident with Trend Micro, it can take months, literally. This is not for simple questions because we have the largest customers in the country, and usually they resolve the easy ones themselves. We also have quite a bit of experience with Trend Micro products and are able to cover 50 to 80% of the other cases and issues they have. However, with this remaining 20%, when we create a technical incident with Trend Micro, it can take literally months, and this is very problematic.

If you have the proper experience, yes, this is possible. Trend Micro Web Security is an enterprise product that is not exactly easy to configure, but it is quite within the expected usage scenarios.

The DLP product is very easy to configure, but it lacks a lot of enterprise-requested features. This is compliance-only DLP and is suitable only for compliance, not suitable for any enterprise scenario.

I can say that we usually do not lose business because of price. However, I have no vision on their competitors and how they position the pricing of their competitive products. So I have just an opinion from Trend Micro's side. From a licensing standpoint, the Vision One product portfolio has a licensing model which is literally great. No matter what you buy, at any point within the license validity, you can change your mind, choose a different product, and you just need to have enough licenses to cover your current expectations for usage. No other vendor I have seen allows this flexibility, and in these terms, Trend Micro is great. I cannot tell about the other vendors. We have sometimes strong competitive scenarios and have to compete with very strong competition, but it is the usual situation.

Otherwise, Trend Micro Web Security is definitely suitable for mid-sized businesses and for any enterprise up to my knowledge about requirements, whether distributed or not distributed, home use or not home use. All Trend Micro products, specifically Trend Micro Web Security, support a hybrid model. You can either implement a proxy on-premise or use the cloud proxy when you are not in office. Overall, this is a great product. I would rate this review a 9.

When our customers are using their applications, endpoints can be in the same locations or different locations. People work from various places and want to connect securely. In these cases, we offer this solution.

Currently, many applications are hosted on the web. They are hosted in multiple clouds and tenants. Organizations with different geolocations and users require a very secure WAF solution. For enterprise companies, it is essential to secure their networks and applications.

Trend Vision One offers a single monitoring console. People can easily monitor their action items.

The cons include it not being implemented in the mid-enterprise segment. For these organizations, it is an additional expense. Even companies with multi-tenant, multi-cloud, and multi-geolocation environments are not using this WAF solution because it is an investment. They already have endpoint protection, EDR, firewalls, and authentication. Spending on WAF is an extra investment for them. This is one reason mid-enterprise segments hesitate to adopt it.

We have been working with Trend Micro solutions for 20 years.

I have not worked on it myself, but I have not heard of any issues.

It is an enterprise solution for complete protection.

As a system integrator, if I do not have my team, I take support from national distributors for post-sales or pre-sales. For demos, I seek help from direct OEMs. Technical support is available from OEM, distributor, or partner.

The first installation of a solution is always tough. It gets easier with time.

The maintenance is easier on the cloud, especially if the cloud provider is Trend Micro. On any other cloud, such as AWS or Azure, it can be a bit more challenging. With on-prem hardware appliances, there are going to be some challenges. The cost is less for on-prem, but you need implementation and maintenance support.

It is pricey. Trend Micro has been in the field for 30 years, so you have to pay a premium amount for that. SentinelOne and CrowdStrike are currently ruling the entire world, even though they are newcomers in the market. 

Overall, I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

I use the solution in my company since we have some apps related to public services. You will get a log in Trend Micro Toolbar whenever there is any threat or malicious activity. Recently, my company faced an attack on one of our applications, and it triggered the tool's Trend Micro Toolbar. Generally, my company gets the logs for everything. It was a sudden incident where someone cracked our company's firewall after a long period of attacks, and unfortunately, due to such a scenario, Trend Micro and Trend Micro Toolbar were not able to log in to our environment because we had layer 7 security covering honeypot, DDoS and other such areas.

The most valuable features of the solution stem from the tool's ability to provide patch updates and regular logs. Trend Micro Web Security is always aware of and monitors the trends attached to OWASP Top 10, which is why the tool is always well secured.

The stability of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required.

I have been using Trend Micro Web Security for two to three years.

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

The product is scalable in our company's environment. The tool helps in a timely manner whenever you have to face any attacks or have to deal with updates on the licensing part, especially since the tool's support team is good.

My company has around 3,500 product users. In the smart city where I work, there are around 15,000 users of the tool. My company has also provided solutions to various schools and hospitals.

The solution's technical support is good. Sometimes, even the support team might be involved in doing some research since new threats and attacks are introduced daily. Overall, the support team is good.

I have used Symantec's DLP features in one of my previous organizations, where we got every log with the solution.

The product's initial setup phase is not too simple. If the setup phase was too simple, everyone could have done it easily. The setup phase of the product is neither too easy nor too difficult.

When it comes to the deployment process, I need to understand the environment, applications, and endpoint devices, like Wif-Fi, mobiles, and other such areas because our company provides notepads as well to the customer. Generally, our company's customers use the tools in government organizations, and I work in a smart city where there are some government officials involved, so confidentiality should be maintained in certain aspects.

For deployment and maintenance, though I currently have seven people on my team, I need three more people added to the team.

I am unaware of how, during the remote sessions, the solution supports our company's remote workforce's security needs because I am not a part of it. I only take care of the architecture part.

Speaking about the tool's impact on web browser security, I would recommend Trend Micro Web Security to others since a lot of people indulge in web browsing. Ultimately, you are tracing your data from one of the URLs, which should also be a safe environment for you.

I need to check with my team about how the product's real-time web filtering feature has impacted our company's security posture since I don't handle it. Generally, I only provide the solution and I only check the product after its implementation. I am not into operations, and I only take care of the implementation and design.

The DLP features of the product are quite good, but my company doesn't currently use such functionalities.

If I consider OWASP Top 10, I can say that Trend Micro Web Security is a leader in the market and has the ability to deal with cross-site scripting attacks.

In our company's environment, I see that the integration capabilities related to the product are simple to use.

The smart city where I work is horizontally and vertically around 50 kilometers in one of the cities in India. The smart city has every location connected, so every office or hospital with desktops has security from Trend Micro Web Security.

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it because I feel that it is a user-friendly product that provides quick response to users. Though the tool is not easy to handle when it comes to the installation part, technical people can manage it. The logs and everything else are manageable and simple because Trend Micro has given all the descriptions related to the logs and everything else, so we need to understand that, as per the logs, we can get everything from them.

I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

It is used for web filtering, URL filtering, application control, and also for sandboxing.

Trend Micro Web Security acts as a proxy for both incoming and outgoing traffic to protect against threats from outside and inside the network. 

It prevents phishing attacks, ransomware attacks, and other threats that can compromise data.  

Trend Micro Web Security provides control over web traffic and user access, that allows for analysis of website behavior and threat detection. It protects against malicious script attacks and vulnerabilities by analyzing traffic in real-time. 

Additionally, it safeguards against data loss through data loss prevention capabilities.

It can protect against VPN or CPU vulnerabilities by creating an external feature or function. It can also filter encrypted traffic to ensure visibility and control over potentially harmful content.

The data loss prevention capabilities can protect sensitive information from being transmitted outside the organization. It can also be deployed in multiple locations to safeguard financial transactions and file exchanges.

Web filtering, URL filtering, application control, and also for sandboxing. So, it benefits daily operations. 

There is room for improvement in the anti-malware capabilities. The most important improvement would be to enhance the capabilities to both initiate and mitigate DDoS attacks. Anyone using the product should have the ability to perform these actions.

While it has features like anti-malware, anti-DDoS, and anti-spam, these could be further enhanced.

In my opinion, while it is a good product, many other products offer similar functions. Trend Micro Web Security could be enhanced, particularly in mitigating DDoS attacks. It should focus on enhancing security features, as other products offer comparable functionalities.

I have been working with it for ten years.

It is easy to deploy. It is easy to deploy, but the security integration is the main issue. The security has changed a lot, and it didn't work before.

It takes about a week or a week and a half, depending on the prerequisites. If there are any problems with the prerequisites, we define them, and it can take longer.

We work with the on-premises version of Trend Micro due to NGRA regulations, so we do not use cloud solutions.

Since we have integrated other Trend Micro solutions, I believe it is easy to integrate. However, there may be some issues with integrating depending on environment.

We have a team of nine engineers.

I would recommend it, as well as other competitors on the same level. There is no significant difference between them.

Overall, I would rate it a six out of ten. 

The solution protects our web servers from external threats, especially those targeting OS apps and browser vulnerabilities. It includes features like sandboxing, web filtering, a proxy server, and a secure gateway, all within a single license, which is very efficient.

The product's most valuable feature is endpoint security. This feature is crucial because we cannot install multiple solutions on user desktops. Trend Micro Endpoint Security provides comprehensive protection for our desktops.

They could improve the platform's ability to control normal traffic and prevent attacks like SQL injection and cross-site scripting. Although we use it effectively, there's always room for enhancement.

I have been using Trend Micro Web Security for about two and a half years.

I rate the product stability around eight out of ten.

Approximately 600 users use Trend Micro Web Security, which is extensively used within our organization. However, the scalability is limited. Currently, we are running it on four servers. If our requirements increase, we would need to acquire additional licenses, which is a limitation.

Previously, we used Symantec, but we encountered issues with support services.

The setup is very straightforward. Using online resources, I deployed it myself without any external support. It took me about two to three hours initially, but subsequent setups have been much quicker.

Currently, we have one person in our team handling the configuration and maintenance of the server.

We pay for the license on an annual basis.

Trend Micro effectively supports our remote workforce by securing our web servers from external threats, particularly browser security. It provides basic security features and includes behavioral monitoring to detect anomalies and potential ransomware attacks.

Since switching to Trend Micro, we have benefited from features such as ransomware protection, behavioral monitoring, and backup capabilities, which were significant factors in our decision to migrate.

The administrator console is easy to manage and user-friendly.

I rate it an eight out of ten. I highly recommend Trend Micro products. They offer a robust solution, and if budget is not an issue, there are more options available in the market to consider as well.

My company has no information about the kind of use cases for which Trend Micro Web Security is preferred.

The most valuable feature of Trend Micro Web Security stems from the fact that it is neither a cheap nor an expensive tool.

The price of Trend Micro Web Security is the only area of concern where improvements are required. From an improvement perspective, the product should be made available to users at a cheaper rate.

I have been using Trend Micro Web Security for three years. My company sells solutions provided by Trend Micro. It is not the solution's latest version that my company deals with currently.

Suppose an end-user of the solution wishes to expand the scope of the product in their environment in the upcoming year. In that case, there might be some additional licensing costs apart from the standard licensing fees that may be involved.

I don't know if I would recommend the solution to those who plan to use it.

We primarily use Trend Micro Web Security as part of our enterprise solutions. We work with Trend Micro Vision One, including Vision One 8607 Pro, for integrated gateways and web security. Additionally, we use Trend Micro Internet Security.

In my experience, Trend Micro Web Security has adapted well to the changing threat landscape. While the executive portion may not currently be resetting the partner as a leader, other products like EDR and endpoint security excel in this aspect. These details are from my observations over the years and are relevant to the category.

The real-time threat detection capability of Trend Micro Web Security has had a positive impact on our security. It operates on a global IT Intel platform and provides effective real-time threat protection, which is essential for maintaining a good security standard.

I've noticed other features for managing products, particularly those not stored in cloud data. Exploring these policies might grant access to employees via Pernasil, which could be advantageous for us. I also use Azure for organizational purposes. Regarding incidents, I've found that generating reports from virus-related incidents, especially those involving clothing, could lead to a personal product.

One aspect I'd like to improve about Trend Micro Web Security is the WFA feature in the on-prem version. This legacy version currently lacks WFA, which is a useful tool for managing bandwidth and applying data control limits to specific users. It's especially beneficial for organizations using Android and Azure. In contrast, the cloud data version only offers time-based bandwidth management. Enhancing this feature or integrating it better with other aspects of the product would greatly enhance its appeal and functionality.

I have been using Trend Micro Web Security for the last four-five years.

In terms of stability, the Trend Micro Web Security solution has been quite reliable in my experience. As for the duration of the web separation process, it typically doesn't take long since it's a cloud-based solution. We can enable monitoring policies step by step and adjust configurations based on requirements, which streamlines the process. 

While their support is generally good, the issue lies with response times. As a distributor, obtaining approval from the parent company can lead to delays in response. For instance, assigning an engineer may take a few hours, sometimes up to five hours, which can be problematic when urgent assistance is needed. We often have to escalate such cases to channel managers to expedite the process, as normal technical support can take considerable time to respond.

I deploy Trend Micro Web Security in our customers' environments. Typically, we require a skilled engineer to handle the installation. Depending on the complexity, we may involve a couple more resources. Installation and configuration usually don't require more than a couple of days, depending on how quickly we can deploy the agent and any specific customer needs.

For most customers, remote access or network assessment is sufficient for deployment, making it a relatively straightforward process. Utilizing tools like CCMO or other remote management tools simplifies agent installation, and configuring the solution for cloud data is also quite easy. Generally, we can handle deployments for a thousand users with just a few people involved.

Overall, I would rate it six out of ten. 

I use Trend Micro Web Security in my company as an antivirus tool.

The most valuable feature of the solution is the product's high ability to detect threats or attacks.

I don't like the user interface provided by Trend Micro Web Security since it is difficult to use, making it one of the areas in the solution where improvements are required.

I have some experience with Fortinet. Compared to Fortinet, Trend Micro Web Security's web console is easy to use. The tool also provides great integration capabilities.

The product's installation phase was easy.

I rate the product's price a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price.

The solution's most valuable feature is web access control.

The solution's filtering feature needs improvement. We are using different SSL certificate versions for our sites. Considering it, the feature is not working up to the mark. It should be one step ahead in detecting vulnerabilities.

We have more than 100 solution users in our organization. I rate its scalability a seven out of ten. It could be better.

The solution's technical support team's response time is quite good. It works in compliance with the SLA.

We have used Kaspersky before. It only provides a few features. In comparison, Trend offers more security features and is more user-friendly.

The solution's deployment takes around three days to complete. It requires two engineers to execute the process.

The solution is low-cost. However, its deployment is costly in terms of data protection features. We purchase its yearly license. Also, we have to pay for deployment initially. Apart from that, there are no additional costs involved.

I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

We use this solution to provide web security to our customers; for their remote users both on laptops and mobile devices.

We find the advanced license for the DLP to be particularly useful with this product.

We also like the cloud filter feature that is available, as well as the HTTP decryption rules that are provided.

This solution has a lot of restrictions on what non-administrator users can do, including generating comparative code. We would like to see this changed as the product is developed.

We would also like more reporting features to be added to this solution.

We have been using this solution for around three years.

We have found this solution to be scalable, and can be deployed across multiple premises.

The technical support for this solution is split into four levels; low, medium, high and critical. For high and critical level issues, we need to provide justification for why the ticket is being raised under this severity level, which can delay the response to the issue.  However, for tickets created on a medium or low level, the issue is resolved within 24 hours.

The initial setup for this solution was quite complex due to the size of our implementation, which was over 500 users. It also required a considerable amount of resources to configure and deploy. The deployment itself took around one month to carry out.

We carried out this implementation using our in-house team.

We have found this product to be very cost effective. The endpoint product costs roughly $20, and when purchasing the endpoint product, there are multiple other features included. 

Businesses that are considering this solution should be aware that there are features available in the on-premises model of this solution that are not available to cloud customers.
