What is our primary use case?
My primary use is domains. I would move my business website to Namecheap. However, the website has too many links on other sites that would be lost. I created my harp music website in 2001, and in that time, many others have linked to it, often without my knowing.
The links make my website easy to find in search engines, and I don't want to sacrifice that to get a lower price on Namecheap. With their excellent support, it is very easy to transfer domains in and out of Namecheap!
How has it helped my organization?
At $15 to renew a .com domain, Namecheap isn't so cheap anymore. That said, the excellent chat support is worth it. The email forwarding also includes a catch-all address, which isn't available with the lower-cost service I use for less important domains.
I haven't experienced any downtime at all. I can't comment on the web hosting since I buy only domains from Namecheap.
I would certainly move my main business domain here if it weren't for the direct links I would lose, which my website has been accumulating since 2001.
What is most valuable?
I have always appreciated the chat support, which is the best on the Internet, from young people with names that sounded Russian or eastern European to me.
Now I find that the support is based in Ukraine. Namecheap has a link to send donations directly to the President of Ukraine and an option to send military or humanitarian aid. I've been looking for something like this since the invasion and shared the link with everyone I know.
Anyone can find this through the Namecheap website without signing in.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see specials on renewals like Go Daddy used to offer, so it would be possible to renew at the $10 rate I pay at the lower-priced registrar that doesn't offer a catchall address in their email forwarding.
I would definitely take advantage of those offers and move those domains to Namecheap.
Other than that, Namecheap is perfect as it is.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for more than ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have never had any downtime with these domains. The stability is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is very, very good.
How are customer service and support?
The customer service chat is the best I have found anywhere on the Internet.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used Go Daddy for everything, and still have my main business website there. I tried Namecheap first since it was recommended by the Local Secretary of North Dakota MENSA, and I found that I loved it. When renewal prices rose at Namecheap, I moved some less important domains to a lower-cost provider, however, one with fewer features.
How was the initial setup?
In terms of the initial setup, I transferred the domains in; it was very easy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Moving a domain in and out of Namecheap is easy and free. If you need help, use their live chat and they will provide it or even do things for you. If you are starting out and don't have many links to potentially lose, use their web hosting too.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I went directly to Namecheap at the recommendation of the Local Secretary (head) of North Dakota MENSA.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, it is excellent.
