Toad Data Modeler Reviews

There are two main use cases. One is reengineering an existing model and making changes from a database. The other is making a new model from scratch. These use cases involve all kinds of systems, including both Oracle and lately also Postgres.

The feature I really like is the graphical part, especially the control of the relationships. You can move them around any way you want. I haven't found this in any other tool. It makes it easy to create a comprehensive and easy-to-understand diagram.

1) When updating a model after generating a schema, if only a few tables are imported, the tool assumes you want to delete the rest. If you have a large model, you repeatedly have to clarify that you don't want to delete each one.

2) If one could view the same model on physical, logical, and conceptual levels while retaining all information specific to each level (including layout), that would be excellent.

I have been working with Toad Data Modeler for at least ten years.

The solution is quite stable. I would rate its stability as a nine out of ten.

The tool is able to scale, allowing for new models and additional users. I would rate its scalability as an eight out of ten.

I have been in touch with the technical support team a couple of times, and they were very helpful in finding solutions quickly.

Considering its functionality, I would rate its pricing as a seven out of ten. It could be cheaper yet is still pretty good.

The only other product I found with satisfactory functionality comparable to Toad Data Modeler was from Visual Paradigm.

I can speak about its functionality but can't talk about it from a technical perspective. It's not for me. As far as I know, it's easy. Everybody with a database uses Toad.

After-sales from Quest for the company because when it comes to the renewal price, we are not able to negotiate with them. After you buy the license, it is to be renewed. It is not possible to negotiate the price during renewal, so they need to be more flexible.

I have been working with Toad Data Modeler for more than ten years.

I am a seller of the solution. I'm not using it right now. I'm not a big company used to using the tool.

I recommend the solution for medium enterprises. It is not feasible for small businesses. It is not used in a small company. It's more suitable for a medium enterprise.

The technical support is excellent. I rate the overall support an eight out of ten.

I did try to use some products that could compete with Toad Data Modeler, but I found that Quest Software has more mature products.

The initial setup is straightforward.

The implementation process takes not more than one day.

Price-wise, the lesser it is, the better it is for me, especially in Egypt.

I think that the licensing cost ranges from 1,000 to 9,000. Also, it includes maintenance and support for a year.

I think the competition is very easy because the major database owners, like Oracle, have the tools with which they can easily develop some tools like this. I'm not talking from a technical perspective.

To those planning to buy the solution, I would say that it is wise to buy it since it is a good tool.

I'm using Toad Data Modeler for modeling from scratch, generating database schema, re-engineering an existing database into a data model, making some changes, and generating a new schema.

I found all features valuable and necessary in Toad Data Modeler, particularly how good the solution is for modeling, database schema generation, and database re-engineering.

I also found Toad Data Modeler straightforward to use.

What could be improved in Toad Data Modeler is stability and the complex setup.

I've been using Toad Data Modeler for three or four years now.

Sometimes, Toad Data Modeler crashes, so I'd say stability-wise, it's pretty good but not excellent.

Toad Data Modeler has good scalability.

I've contacted Toad Data Modeler support two or three times, and on a scale of one to five, I'd rate support a five.

It's been so long since I last used erwin Data Modeler, and I'm not sure how that tool is today, but from what I heard, Toad Data Modeler has more functionality than erwin Data Modeler.

Setting up Toad Data Modeler is quite complex, but in terms of usage, it's pretty straightforward.

Though I'm not involved in the licensing for Toad Data Modeler, I believe it's per user and not cheap.

I'm mainly using Toad Data Modeler from Quest.

Two to three people, including myself, use Toad Data Modeler within the company. At the moment, increasing usage for the solution isn't on the table, but it could happen further down the line, mainly when others use it for Postgres. I'm using it for Oracle databases.

Only one developer is required for the deployment of the Toad Data Modeler.

I'd recommend Toad Data Modeler to other people who may want to start using it.

My rating for Toad Data Modeler is nine out of ten.

I used to work for a large corporation where I used it for Oracle. I've really enjoyed the product for SQL Server. It is used for software development.

I’m very happy with the product. It's an excellent product. Auto-complete is the best feature of the solution.

The query and design could be improved. The product should provide better debugging features. It should also be easy to set up.

The Oracle side of things was very popular. The admin features for Oracle were great. It would be a really good thing if we had a similar functionality to SQL Server. The product is not too bad with maintenance. MySQL would be better than Toad. I always recommend the product to others. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

The solution is used fir Business High Availability to maintain customer 99.99 SLA metrics to meet the demand for scalable, consistent performance.

It provides us with support for Oracle RAC, allowing us to manage and maintain our database health. We used this product in the trial edition to check RAC support with Oracle 12c to 19c Database, and it has given great results. We will recommend this option to all our new clients.

Its compatibility with Windows 10/11 is the most valuable feature for me. This is because all new laptops and news users will be upgrading Windows to 10, and compatibility and stability are mandatory to use the product.

The reporting feature needs to be enhanced. They also need to enhance big data features in the next release.

We have Toad Developer/DBA and added a data model to give more value to the Toad family of products as unified tool usage.

It's a great product every database admin and developer must have toolset.

Our primary use case of this solution is for support.

The most valuable features are the database architecture, the good functionality, and the user interface.

Many users don't know how to add licensing to Toad, or where it is shown, so they could make that easier. 

The software is very stable.

I'm not a database administrator, so I'm not sure about this aspect of the solution. I understand that Toad can take on about 600 licenses.

The initial setup of the solution is complex. Deployment involves an EXE file and you choose your operating system and click-through, so that part of the user installation is easy. It takes a few hours.

I don't work with Toad, I support Toad because I work in a distributor company. I deal mostly with the on-premises version of the solution.

I would recommend Toad but I think it would be a better solution if it had one platform or if it was an all-in-one tool.

I would rate this solution nine out of ten. I'd rate it higher, but right now, for example, if I want to work with the database I must load Toad for Oracle or Toad for MySQL, etc. But if I want to work with the Toad Modeler, I don't want another Toad installation. If there was a one-stop solution, it would be a ten.

Managing huge volumes of data efficiently and making sure everyone uses the updated database with restricted user access to take business decisions.

With Toad, all the users have the same database on the server rather than local individual databases which creates a lot of duplication. It also enables great security over who can see the data.

SQLBuilder really helps to play with the data and develop SQL queries to extract data from huge databases as per the requirement.

A platform to code in Python would be really helpful as Python is becoming very well integrated with other platforms.

It's quite stable but takes a bit of a time to run SQL queries if the database is huge.

It can be used company-wide with hundreds of thousands of records.

Has great support for any technical hiccups.

Microsoft Access was used before jumping to Toad which created a lot of issues as there was no common database and everyone used their own local database.

It is pretty straightforward, and they have very helpful documentation for the same.

Complex. Despite requiring a key which only allows specific features, the installer still asks you to select all the features (from a big list), instead of hiding what you cannot have.

It's way overpriced, even if it wasn't the buggy product it has become. Honestly, Toad for Oracle needs to die; SQL Developer is much better than it was.

Yes, SQL Developer, Tora, SQL Plus.

Don't, really don't.

This product is fast to learn and a user-friendly tool. It's most valuable to me because of its great shortcuts. It really helps on development time. You can even define some quick assist codes and prefixes. Also, you can use this tool for comparing files, debugging, FTP file transfer, etc.

Whatever database issues I have faced, I have solved them with the Quest Toad product.

Maybe it could be optimized by using less RAM memory. Also, this product may have stability issues.

I have been using different versions of Toad since 2010. I've been using this version since March 2017.

Yes, I have still been facing some issues. Currently, with Windows 10, it sometimes would get stuck and stop responding. I am guessing it is something about the RAM usage. When this happens, I have to open task manager/stop process and it is frustrating because you might lose some uncompiled DB objects code.

I have worked with this product on Oracle 9i, 10g, and 11g. My operating system is Windows. It was fun to work with them. I don't know about Oracle 12c or running it on a Linux platform.

I haven't asked for technical support before this, but Toad user forums show good solutions and tips for the product.

I have tried Oracle SQL Developer before, but I prefer to use Toad. It really is faster to build solutions with Toad.

It is straightforward. Initial setup requires an Oracle Client installed on the machine. Other than that, it's nowhere near complex.

I'm a developer and don't know much about pricing. The license is on our company, but I guess it's the most expensive database IDE.

Just tried Oracle SQL Developer and Toad for Oracle. I would definitely choose Toad.

This is our main SQL tool; everything is there and makes it efficient and easy to perform the needed tasks on the database. I have it open every day.

TOAD makes it easy to code and compile stored procedures. It is easy to find and edit code, and offers the ability to debug and test. It is a great tool that saves a lot of time. The real advantage is that it has a lot of components all in one tool, and you don’t need to open or use other apps or the command line.

The one thing about it is that there are almost too many features and options; some we don’t even use. It can be overwhelming at first, but once the initial learning curve is over, it is not bad.

For example, we don’t use the automation designer or the query builder.
Query builder is a graphical interface to build SQL (drag and drop), but once you have good skills at writing in the editor, it is much faster and you have more control than with the query builder.

I rarely encountered any stability issues; it is very stable.

Technical support is excellent, very responsive. They have a great online and built-in technical help, and manuals as well.

I had a question on a thread setting and had a very positive experience.
I was not able to find anything on this setting in the online help, so I opened a case and was able to get all the details needed.

Prior to TOAD, we had to use many other apps for testing, compiling code or even the Oracle command line. TOAD eliminates the need to open or use other tools.
