Veritas NetBackup is an enterprise-grade backup and recovery software solution. NetBackup securely restores and backs up files, raw partitions, and directories on a server known as a media server. A server protected by NetBackup is referred to as a NetBackup client. During the backup process, the NetBackup client sends the data through the network to the NetBackup media server, which chooses the appropriate storage media as the backup point.

Reviews from Real Users
Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”
A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”
Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”

Consultant at MTN | 4.0 | We use Veritas NetBackup primarily for standard backup operations, not deduplication or cloud integration, though we can trigger storage actions. Integration with the cloud needs improvement. We are exploring Rubrik with FlashBlade and Commvault for better performance and cloud integration. |
ICT Director at SSA | 4.0 | We use Veritas NetBackup for disaster recovery and backup operations, valuing its simulation engine and cost-effectiveness. It supports Windows 2022 and promises new features, improving governance. We switched from IBM Tivoli and HP Data Protector due to high costs. |
Deputy Director IT at DHA Lahore | 5.0 | I've used Veritas NetBackup for a decade and find it reliable, scalable, and effective for our backup needs, though I wish it offered stronger ransomware protection. It's easy to set up and meets our technical requirements well. |
Senior Systems Engineer at Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs | 5.0 | We use Veritas NetBackup to ensure reliable data backup and restoration. While the interface needs refinement compared to competitors, its popularity provides great support. We switched from Dell NetWorker and considered Commvault but preferred Veritas for better support and ROI. |
Senior Presales Manager at SOCITECH S.A. | 4.0 | I've used Veritas NetBackup for varied purposes, notably for backing up banking and telecom data as well as for disaster recovery due to its replication capabilities. Improvements should focus on supporting more infrastructures and new operating systems like MySQL and Postgres. |
Head IT Data Storage at a insurance company with 5,001-10,000 employees | 4.0 | I use Veritas NetBackup primarily for backup purposes. While it allows restoring ACLs, it needs improved granular control over metadata components, especially for JSON data. Overall, enhancements in metadata management would significantly improve the product's capabilities. |
Senior Admistrator at hq-12b | 4.0 | We use Veritas NetBackup for snapshot, file-level, and database backups, including disaster recovery. It's highly customizable, but complex and requires expertise. Although ROI isn't obvious, it helps minimize downtime. We switched from IBM Tivoli, considering Veeam and Data Protector. |
IT Specialist at Moj | 5.0 | I use Veritas NetBackup for full backups due to its reliable performance and easy file recovery through snapshots. Despite its strong points, the HTML interface lacks features, requiring Java for full access. It's more stable than previous solutions like Dell NetWorker and Commvault. |
