Efficient data recovery and replication features
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is replication because, using NetBackup replication, we can have disaster recovery of the data we have."
  • "There is a big change in Veritas. In the past, we could easily change servers or appliances and continue working by restoring the catalog. We could change servers from Linux to Linux or Linux to Solaris and perform catalog restores to continue working. But with the new version, we are forced to engage Veritas' professional services, which is too expensive."

What is our primary use case?

I've used it for a variety of use cases, including backing up data for some banking and telecom customers. One of the most common use cases is backing up two appliance applications after a backup.

I use it for disaster recovery because, for many enterprises in our country, the backup solution is one way to have disaster recovery. We have replication disaster recovery for using backup, and it is in this case that I deployed some mini-solution backup.

How has it helped my organization?

This solution is just for disaster recovery purposes. Businesses need to have a disaster recovery solution in place, especially those with many computers. This solution can be used for replication or backup. It is mandatory for many telecommunications enterprises and some banks.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is replication because, using NetBackup replication, we can have disaster recovery of the data we have.

What needs improvement?

The improvement of Veritas NetBackup is the way we have to back up many infrastructures, such as Nutanix, and OpenStack, and new operating systems and applications, such as MySQL, Postgres, and MariaDB. This is a new improvement that has been added to NetBackup. We have also made some improvements to the cloud.

For how long have I used the solution?

I first deployed the version 5.0. I also deploy it for many clients. My country is Côte d'Ivoire, and I have deployed this solution here. I have also deployed it in Mauritius, Singapore, Guinea, and many other countries.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The Ethernet backup solution is stable, quite stable. But, for some features like BAMINI-TO-Restore, the new version doesn't have the appropriate support. We have some issues when attempting to create a desktop, especially for a specific version of Linux.

With Windows, we didn't face any problems. But when it came to Linux and Solaris, we experienced many troubles when attempting restores for a certain period.

But, for Oracle, Exchange, SQL, and so on, I found it satisfactory for performing restores. It's mainly the BAMINI-TO-Restore component that caused some trouble, both for Linux and Solaris restores.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is a big change in Veritas. In the past, we could easily change servers or appliances and continue working by restoring the catalog. We could change servers from Linux to Linux or Linux to Solaris and perform catalog restores to continue working. But with the new version, we are forced to engage Veritas' professional services, which is too expensive. Sometimes, we've received quotes exceeding $100,000 for a catalog migration.

This expense was unnecessary in the past. For instance, we used to install a new release of Linux and simply restore the catalog, and the system would function well. But with the latest version, it's no longer feasible.

For instance, if we want to migrate from appliance 5030 to 5060 or even just 5050, we are compelled to engage Veritas consultants due to the intricate data manipulation involved. This additional expense is quite expensive. In the past, these devices didn't even exist, and we could easily restore the catalog, resulting in a fully functional system. However, the new version demands expensive expertise for such tasks, which I find unacceptable for our clients.

How are customer service and support?

Currently, I find the setup problematic. When I compare the support we receive now to what we had in the past, it's clear that the support has become less responsive and reactive.

So when we had some trouble with the solution, we had many difficulties in getting the satisfaction in a short time. The support level goes down. There are three levels of support, but we get the basic level of support.

Because when I open a support case, I've usually already checked all the technical notes available on the Veritas site. Surprisingly, the support team often provides me with the same documents I've already reviewed. And when I try to escalate the issue for a quicker resolution, they are not ready to do so. So, in my experience, the support quality is not good for me.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Negative

How was the initial setup?

I deployed it back on-site in 2007. The initial deployment was not complex. We didn't encounter any complexities for the data types we usually work with, such as data SAP and other data in our area. But, with new types of data, like net earnings or OpenStack, which are relatively new for us, there might be some challenges. But with documentation, we can do it.

What about the implementation team?

In my company, I'm the expert responsible for designing solutions, creating architectures, and handling deployments.

I am involved in the entire process, right from the beginning to the end. I receive offers to design solutions and architectures. After that, when we have a clear view, I handle the deployment of the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As for the price, it's quite expensive, actually. It is expensive. If you want to make a comparison, for example, with Acronis Backup or Avamar, other solutions used here, NetBackup is indeed on the costly side.

The NetBackup appliance, specifically the appliance license is expensive. That's why some clients opt for alternatives like Veeam for virtual machine backup.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Comes with integrated security and scalability and useful for backups
Pros and Cons
  • "Disaster recovery primarily involves backup usage. We employ it for both backup and recovery purposes. The backup and recovery processes have been executed multiple times, even restoring data from backups created three to four years ago."
  • "We are facing a challenge regarding the support for Docker and Kubernetes features. We hope for the possibility of directly backing up Kubernetes and Docker images without the necessity of taking full virtual machine backups."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for backup and recovery purposes. It serves as enterprise software and helps with virtualization environments, databases, and backups. It addresses our requirements for backups.

What is most valuable?

Disaster recovery primarily involves backup usage. We employ it for both backup and recovery purposes. The backup and recovery processes have been executed multiple times, even restoring data from backups created three to four years ago.

We use the deduplication feature in Veritas NetBackup. This feature helps us to compress the information, especially when utilizing appliances, helping with our storage usage. It has been very beneficial for us. The feature has resulted in significant space savings, especially when performing daily full backups for various applications.

The product itself includes all the necessary database and data security features. Initially associated with Symantec, even after being separated, it retains all its security capabilities independently.

What needs improvement?

We are facing a challenge regarding the support for Docker and Kubernetes features. We hope for the possibility of directly backing up Kubernetes and Docker images without the necessity of taking full virtual machine backups.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the product for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and we haven't encountered any instability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is scalable, and despite experiencing data growth of around 20 to 25 percent, we have been able to handle backups without encountering any issues. Currently, we have two resources working with Veritas NetBackup. However, they are not exclusively dedicated to NetBackup; they also manage different applications. We have about 400 endpoint servers.

How are customer service and support?

When needed, we open cases within our backup team. An engineer then troubleshoots the issues and responds to any required adjustments or additional information needed for the backup system.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process was not complex. We have gone through it multiple times and performed updates on several occasions, making the process straightforward. The deployment process for Veritas NetBackup is straightforward. It involves setting up a master server and a media server.

You can assign both roles to a single server or keep them separate. Additionally, clients, representing the machines for which backups are needed, require the installation of a client component. Ensuring open communication ports is crucial for successful backup operations. If the implementation engineer is skilled, they can handle the deployment process independently.

It's not difficult to maintain Veritas NetBackup. Maintenance mainly involves upgrades; as long as there are no issues, it runs smoothly day and night. Regular upgrades are the only maintenance requirement for the system.

What was our ROI?

At times when data is needed and not available, it becomes a significant challenge in organizations. However, with Veritas NetBackup, we haven't faced such issues. Despite being relatively expensive, it is not as complex as some other solutions, providing value for money.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive compared to other products.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Veritas NetBackup as it is relatively easy to manage and can serve as a single-vendor solution. If deployed correctly, it proves to be a good solution with integrated security and scalability. I rate it a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Great backup capabilities with good customizations and lots of implementation options
Pros and Cons
  • "We were able to witness the benefits of using the solution within weeks of using it."
  • "The reporting of the backups could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for snapshot backups and then some file-level backups and database backups, for sure. It is also a solution that can be used for disaster recovery. If some issue happens in the data centers, we can recover quite quickly and easily.

How has it helped my organization?

I use the solution to make sure my clients have backups so they can recover faster if they have an issue. Using this solution, business continuity goes up. That's a big up for the business side.

What is most valuable?

The backup to any point in time is great.

It's not out of the box; you can customize it and choose various ways to have it running. Between data centers, you can choose how to implement your backups.

They are a worldwide organization and it's always possible to contact them, day or night.

We were able to witness the benefits of using the solution within weeks of using it.

What needs improvement?

They could improve the complexity. You need to specialize in it. Sometimes it's really difficult when you integrate many different things. It would be ideal if they could simplify it.

The reporting of the backups could be better. We'd like to have easier reports to see when backups happen if they are successful and how often they happen. Reporting should be displayed in a more user-friendly way.

Right now, you need querying and scripting to get things done. It's more difficult sometimes to use than other products.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is quite good in this version. In previous versions, two or three years ago, they were not as stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We use the solution in four locations and we maintain 6,000 or 7,000 servers inside NetBackup.

They have quite a broad portfolio. You can choose how much scalability you'd like. It depends on the needs of the company. It depends also on what kind of environment you have. It usually has no problems. We're increasing the capacity and functionality.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support varies. Some are very good. If you feel support is lacking you can redirect your case elsewhere and get to the right person. You need to really explain your issue well and if you do they will help you quickly.

They could always improve their services a bit.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Tivoli from IBM. That was nine or ten years ago when IBM was much bigger. Now, there are a lot of systems that are virtualized and we decided to make a big change as IBM was still more for physical systems.

How was the initial setup?

I was involved in the deployment. The process was rather complex. You do need some skill to implement it.

It took one year to really migrate to the new product.

You need to set up all your cabling and firewall ports and make sure that your solution is available for the infrastructure you want to backup and restore. Technically, you need to involve other people that you want to have file-level backups or database backups. You need to know what to back up and what you don't need to back up. You need to do some test backups and test restores to make sure that everything is available.

We had four people managing the implementation and we have two people now handling maintenance.

What was our ROI?

The ROI is not always quite visible, however, if it helps keep your company up and running, and you avoid downtime that can affect your users, it's a return on investment for the user.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is rather expensive. However, it's a good product. If it's good it's normal that you would pay so much for it. Of course, it could always be cheaper.

There are different licenses. An enterprise license is all-inclusive. They may also charge per terabyte, which can get expensive if you have a big company.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at other options, including Veeam and Data Protector.

What other advice do I have?

I've only tested some of the cloud functionality and mostly deal with the on-premises version.

I'm a consultant and implementer. I work for financial institutions primarily as my clients. I administer the environment and make sure new implementations are done.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

I would advise new users to test the product, compare it, and use it to see if it's performing well.

From time to time it's a good idea to re-evaluate and make sure it's the best option for you and it's working as it should be. Sometimes there are multiple ways to solve the same problem.

A stable and versatile product that is compatible with many platforms
Pros and Cons
  • "What I like most is it is a professional product. It supports all kinds of technologies, and I consider it one of the best backup products available."
  • "NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use Veritas NetBackup for backing up and restoring data, but primarily to restore data backed up with NetBackup. I primarily do maintenance for end users who need me to back up their servers.

What is most valuable?

Veritas NetBackup is currently one of the most professional products in the area. It is compatible with my features, and what I like most is it is a professional product. It supports all kinds of technologies, and I consider it one of the best backup products available. Its versatility and compatibility with multiple systems are its best features.

I am particularly impressed by its compatibility and the granular backup and restore options. The storage connection is also excellent. NetBacku’s compatibility, stability, and catalog management capabilities are what stand out the most.

I like that the solution is compatible with many features and technologies. Specific strengths include granular backup and restore, as well as compatibility with storage, along with its stability and the way it catalogs data.

What needs improvement?

Veritas NetBackup is a very old product, but it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly. Although they have made some improvements in GUI to provide a more user-friendly interface, the web interface could be better organized and easier to use. It is not really suitable for anyone without strong knowledge of the product, which is its main disadvantage. So the user interface (UI) is the main area for improvement.

UI feels a bit outdated, like an application from the '90s, due to its Java-based design. Additionally, because NetBackup's roots are in Linux, the best way to work with it is through commands. The current web interface is still somewhat outdated, and there are limitations compared to what can be done with the command line. That's why managing it without strong knowledge can be challenging.

Though they have a GUI to make things easier, it would be better to improve the GUI and the web interface by making them more organized and easier for anyone to use the products without a strong knowledge of the product.

For additional features, I could give one example. Veritas Protection and Veritas NetBackup are somehow integrated but obviously cannot be one product. If they were one product, it would be much better. So, like if it merged with SaaS protection and became one product.

For how long have I used the solution?

The first time I used NetBackup was when I was training with Veritas was actually around 2018. Prior to that, I supported Veritas products such as Backup Exec. I joined Veritas when they split from Symantec. Initially, I worked with Backup Exec and DLP. Then, in 2018, I received training for Veritas NetBackup. We are currently using version 9.1.

I'm an administrator who supports NetBackup. So, I'm essentially a backup administrator. My job is to manage NetBackup. In my previous experience, I provided support for various Veritas products. Currently, I have a good understanding of many of the policies due to that support. Primarily, I manage three Veritas products: NetBackup, Enterprise Vault, and DLP. What I do involves backing up and managing restrictions at my agency, and they have chosen Veritas products. I'm the right person to manage these products.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability at least an eight. In my opinion, it's one of the best products in the market. I've encountered various products, and in terms of stability, NetBackup is top-notch because it is mainly based on Linux. It can be used in both Linux and Windows servers.

In Linux, it's very, very stable. However, when installed on Windows servers, the problems tend to increase, and stability may decrease. So, eight seems like a reasonable rating overall. The roots of Veritas NetBackup are very very stable. However, when you interact with the user interface or perform configurations, sometimes the GUI may appear a bit glitchy. That will not affect your backups, but it might affect what you are trying to do.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very very scalable because, even with a product like SaaS Protection, NetBackup has integration with them, so you can scale it.

My agency is an enterprise business. We currently back up hundreds of servers, both virtual and physical.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support team is good. The support is straightforward and always available. However, one issue I have with the support is that they follow specific guidelines. If your environment doesn't match their guidelines, you might face some difficulties. So, that's a minor downside of their support, but it's also their right to do so.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The installation is not difficult. It's more about the recurrent operations, the command lines. The installation process itself is straightforward if you follow the steps and have a basic understanding of what you're doing. It's an easy-to-install product and also supports multiple platforms.

When you have multiple installations, you will need to set up the agents on the clients, but for product installation on the server, half an hour should be plenty to have the minimum preparation and to launch it. But to set up the environment, it wouldn’t be half an hour; it would take more time depending on what you are trying to back up.

NetBackup is not a user-based application, so I don’t have many deployments; it is just deployed at my agency. If we have been requested to update to a new server or upgrade the application, in which case I would have to update the clients as well, it might take longer to do that, but that can all be handled by one person.

The solution will require maintenance because you will have problems with the backups: there will be sensitive things that you need to monitor because you will have all kinds of issues, even if they are not related to NetBackup. It depends highly on the client. Maintenance here is about backups, not the application. The application maintenance itself would be the upgrades. Otherwise, it works well if there is no problem with any of the clients. When I say clients, I only mean the OS or the application where the solution is running that we want to back up.

What about the implementation team?

The agency I work with handles deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive. I would rate the solution an eight of ten, with one being cheap and ten being expensive.

We have an unlimited license with NetBackup, with support for upgrades. Mainly, the product itself is a one-time purchase, and then there will be more for support, maintenance, or other additional features that you will have to pay for, and it will not be forever.

What other advice do I have?

For a recommendation, I absolutely recommend it as the best product that I know for the backup world, and why I'm saying it's the best is because it's very, very responsive, and very scalable. And personally, I have had good experiences with the support, and also I'm very familiar with Veritas. But mostly, it's because you can back up your environment safely with Veritas NetBackup.

The best way to use the solution is with commands since they have roots in Linux. The current web interface is still outdated, and you cannot do many things in the web interface that you can do with the command line.

If you don't have a strong knowledge of the solution, it will be hard to manage.

Otherwise, the product is very versatile and scalable that allows you to back up your environments easily, and I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

The backup and restore features are helpful, but the tool is expensive, and the technical support must be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "The backup and restore features are helpful."
  • "The product must enable data migration from on-premise to the cloud."

What is our primary use case?

The solution backs up applications and databases like Microsoft Exchange, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and VMware.

How has it helped my organization?

I've restored and recovered application, disk, and server failures. The solution has been beneficial to us. We could see the benefits of the tool almost immediately. We don't need to have a failure to use a backup. Sometimes, to create a test environment, we clone an environment from the backup and have it up and running.

What is most valuable?

The backup and restore features are helpful.

What needs improvement?

The product must enable data migration from on-premise to the cloud. It must provide features that support a hybrid approach. It should provide interconnectivity to manage data across multi-cloud providers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for about eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is scalable. It is able to increase its capacity and functionalities based on our demands. My organization is planning to increase its usage.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support can be better.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The deployment of the appliance was pretty straightforward. It gets complex when we start integrating the appliance into the media server to increase the library and back up multiple operating systems. Our landscape is not small. The deployment can be simple or complex, depending on the phase we are in at a particular time. We cannot deploy the solution and walk away. The product evolves as the environment grows.

Last year, we swapped out some appliances that were at the end of life. Taking those out and bringing in other things was simple. Deploying libraries is complex. It's not a static space. It's a very dynamic space. Every year, we take a look at the environment and make changes. The number of people involved in the deployment varies. Sometimes, we need two, other times, more. We have about five people in our backup team.

What about the implementation team?

Veritas’ partners helped us with the deployment.

What was our ROI?

Measuring the return on investment on backup and recovery is very difficult. There were possible scenarios where potential problems have been resolved in our organization due to the tool, and we were able to restore services.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive. I rate the pricing an eight out of ten. The price could be a problem for smaller businesses. We’re engaged with the product as an enterprise. We might have received a lot of discounts on the price. It might not be the same for a small-scale business.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the tool to others. It's an enterprise solution. It comes with various options that can meet different needs. If someone is looking for a backup and recovery solution that meets the needs of both large and small-scale businesses, Veritas NetBackup is a good option. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Easy to recover deleted files, can mount snapshots without an installer, and provides high-performance
Pros and Cons
  • "Veritas NetBackup provides good backup performance, and I can mount the snapshot without an installer."
  • "The HTML interface is a web application that does not offer all the features."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veritas NetBackup as our full backup solution.

How has it helped my organization?

Employees often delete important files that need to be recovered, but with Veritas NetBackup, I can recover them quickly. We notice the benefits of Veritas NetBackup from the POC.

What is most valuable?

Veritas NetBackup provides good backup performance, and I can mount the snapshot without an installer. This allows me to browse the backup for specific files I need to recover without searching through all the data.

What needs improvement?

Veritas NetBackup has a built-in cybersecurity solution but it has room for improvement.

The HTML interface is a web application that does not offer all the features. I use Java, an older approach, to access more features.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veritas NetBackup for over five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veritas NetBackup provides us with a 99.99 percent stability rate.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is easy to scale with Veritas NetBackup. We plan to increase our usage next year.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is extremely helpful.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, my current organization used Dell NetWorker, but we experienced many issues with the proxy server when connecting to VMware and attempting to back up snapshots. Something would always go wrong, and we had to manually release the snapshots, which was a headache.

In my previous organization, we used Commvault Backup & Recovery, but the support in our region was poor. The setup configuration was incorrect, and when I contacted support, it took them three months to confirm this. They refused to provide a full configuration until we renewed our contract.

How was the initial setup?

I was involved in the migration from the old appliance to the new appliance which was straightforward.

To migrate the data, we logged in remotely and opened the old console and the new console.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was completed in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veritas NetBackup is more expensive than Cohesity and Rubrik, but it is comparable in price to Commvault, IBM, and Dell.

There are no additional costs for Veritas NetBackup, and Veritas is helpful with the licensing. So, if I need a temporary location for a backup dump, they will provide me with a short-term license, and I am not obligated to purchase additional licenses for the full year.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have used Commvault Backup & Recovery, Rubrik, IBM, and Dell NetWorker and found that Veritas NetBackup is the most stable.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Veritas NetBackup ten out of ten.

We are a team of three people who handle all the backups for our organization using Veritas NetBackup.

We have two sites, the main one being NDR. We are backing up all critical systems, and uncritical systems are also rotated into the backup schedule. As a critical telecom company, we back up all billing and charging systems, as well as switches. We do file-based backups, but there are some systems that cannot integrate with any backup solution, such as Ericsson. For these systems, we dump the backup file and then take it to Veritas where we back up using a secret application to the appliance and NFS.

For an enterprise company, two professionals are enough for the maintenance of Veritas NetBackup.

I recommend Veritas NetBackup for enterprise companies.

I have vast experience with backup solutions and Veritas NetBackup is the best solution out there.

Helps to replicate data with SLP
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of cloud integration is the ability to send data outside of your location. This can be achieved by integrating cloud tier options or other object storage solutions."
  • "The solution is not easy to use. You need to train yourself step by step because it is complex, but it is a good solution. Its pricing could be cheaper."

What is our primary use case?

I've used Veritas NetBackup for Dell Cyber Recovery Solutions. It works fine with the Cyber Recovery solution and data domain, but integrating Veritas NetBackup can be complex. I rate the overall solution an eight out of ten. If you want to use Veritas NetBackup, base your solution on your needs and capabilities. Use application appliances like data domain or similar setups.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the tool's stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veritas NetBackup is not scalable due to various limitations and restrictions, especially concerning scaling the index infrastructure, such as database limitations.

How are customer service and support?

Global support is not enough to solve any problem. Local teams are ready to solve the problem.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up Veritas NetBackup is not straightforward. Many components must be implemented, such as master servers, media servers, OSTs etc. If you want to use Veritas NetBackup according to best practices, it's advisable to seek professional services.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive compared to other alternatives.

What other advice do I have?

I've used Veritas NetBackup for cyber recovery Solutions. It works fine with the CyberArk solution and data domain, but integrating Veritas NetBackup can be complex. I rate the overall solution an eight out of ten. If you want to use Veritas NetBackup, base your solution on your needs and capabilities. Use application appliances like data domain or similar setups.

Reliable, centralizes everything, and easily adjusts to future needs
Pros and Cons
  • "We can easily expand the ability of the solution."
  • "There may be a learning curve."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case for this solution is as a backup. We use virtual infrastructure and use it as a backup for the SQL server, for example. We provide solutions to different companies that are handling many releases and it's important to have backups for the infrastructure.

How has it helped my organization?

Sometimes there are bottlenecks in the backup infrastructure or there are some profile issues. If you have big infrastructure, you need to have a team and backup infrastructure in place in order to back up smaller sites and provide better, more efficient, solutions.

What is most valuable?

We can easily expand the ability of the solution.

It's great that we can have a backup for the server architecture.

It works with various solutions, including VMware, SolarWinds, and all the OS you can imagine.

The solution centralizes everything. I can do everything from one pane of glass.

If we want to, we can work with tape and make libraries for offline backups. We can do off-site backups and work with cloud services as well.

This is a solution you can rely on. You are sure when you have a backup. When you need to restore, it's always successful. There are no inconsistency issues.

It easily adjusts to your future needs. If you want to, you can easily change your license. You don't need to change your backup solution. It's also easy to add features.

What needs improvement?

There may be a learning curve. It can be a bit hard to understand when you are trying to figure out how it works. The interface could be a bit more user-friendly. It would be better if it were simpler. The process workflows when working with the solution could be easier as well.

There are a few things that could be improved from an administrator standpoint. If it could be possible to change a basic disk to an advanced disk without including the backup, for example, that would be ideal.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for about four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I'd rate the stability ten out of ten. It's very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have experience deploying the solution over a network of multiple sites.

There are a lot of endpoints. We have between 1,000 and 5,000 users - no more than that. We do work with servers.

The solution scales well. As long as you have the hardware, you are fine. I'd rate scalability nine out of ten. We're working with the solution more and more. We may expand usage.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has taken care of us very well. I don't use them a lot, however. I tend to go to my colleagues to ask questions. Technical support is kind of a last resort.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm also familiar with Veritas Backup Exec. There are other solutions. However, they work in the background. We moved to this solution based on its reliability. It offers a better backup experience, and it works with our server infrastructure without any hesitation.

How was the initial setup?

I was involved with the implementation. We would have to devise retention policies and strategies for our backups. After we did that, we did a central setup and implementation. We also maintain the backups. If we ran into issues, we had a clear troubleshooting process. It was a bit complex. It would take us one to two days to deploy it.

We had two or three people involved in the deployment process. One person manages the strategy, and another checks everything and goes on to perform maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

I have some colleagues who are backup professionals, and I sometimes would ask them for assistance. There's a community out there that can help. However, my first step is to reach out to colleagues.

What was our ROI?

We do witness an ROI in regard to being able to avoid losing data. Fear of data loss no longer exists. When you invest in backups, you are investing in your most valuable assets.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is expensive. That said, it's not meant for small businesses. It's for enterprises. You can add more features to it, and those cost more.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did evaluate other solutions. This offered good documentation that was quite accessible.

We did look into Commvault, which is an awesome tool. However, it had some limitations with accessibility and knowledge sharing.

What other advice do I have?

For this solution, I'm not very specialized. I am a technical manager. While I'm familiar with it, I do not specifically focus on the platform.

We are end users of the solution.

This is the top solution on the market.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. Others should not hesitate to use the solution. Once you have some experience, you'll like it.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
