Cost savings and efficient decompression but needs better cloud integration
Our primary use case for Arcserve UDP is its decompression feature, which helped us save money by reducing storage needs. Despite moving to cloud applications, we have been using Arcserve UDP for backup and disaster recovery Arcserve UDP has helped our organization save considerable amounts of…

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The ROI is very good because of the speed of the backup."
"Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained."
"The recovery part of the product is very good."
"The product provides instant and virtual standbys."
"It allows us to back up all the servers and centrally manage them."
"I would recommend it if there is a general case."
"Our customers are happy with the product’s functionality."
"The most valuable feature is the duplication."
"Veritas NetBackup is a scalable solution."
"It is important, when we chose a solution, that the customer service/technical support team could help us when we needed it, but the support was good."
"Backup and recovery software with great stability, and can support large-scale environments."
"The tool provides recovery. The support for their legacy software is very good."
"The most valuable feature is flexibility."
"I think this is the best backup solution that we have. It is very good for the infrastructure."
"I can rely on this product if I need a restore."
"I like NetBackup's anomaly detection and Linux storage features."

Cons

"Based on my experience, whenever we need support, there are difficulties with communication when trying to resolve the issue."
"We cannot restore each user's mailbox. Each user's mailbox should be independently restorable. Also, this solution is very slow. If you select all of the servers, it runs for a long time... It needs to be faster. Finally, If anything happens to one server we should be able to switch to another server."
"A lot of their new technologies are not very good."
"We are looking at scaling up to the cloud and using immutable copies on the cloud. Arcserve UDP 8.0 does have the immutable feature supporting AWS, but I'm looking for multi-cloud support. So, I'm waiting for Arcserve to release that in the next release."
"Arcserve UDP is in the middle range of complexity. The interface can be developed a little bit more to be user-friendly."
"The speed of restores should be improved. We have found the speed of large restores rather slow."
"Its interface can be improved. I find it unintuitive."
"In the most recent version of premium plus the replication has been removed, and it should re-added to the solution."
"Endpoint backup capability is needed."
"Data restoration from Veritas NetBackup is quite slow. I would also like documentation that I can share with my technical team."
"The pricing is a bit of a concern. If could be lower."
"The deployment time is longer than it is with other products."
"The product must enable data migration from on-premise to the cloud."
"Some of the hardware is out of support."
"The HTML interface is a web application that does not offer all the features."
"The flip side about NetBackup is that it is not policy-based."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is based on the number of sockets. We use a four-socket price that includes two servers and the cost is $4,375."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a four or five out of ten."
"Its price seems reasonable. Its price is average as compared to the other products I've looked at. We have a three-year license right now. There are no other costs beyond the standard licensing fee."
"The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
"It is a bit pricey, considering the reliability problems. If the tool worked flawlessly, the price would be fair, even cheap."
"It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
"The pricing is moderate."
"There are annual subscription fees and there are licensing costs for three computers. It is an expensive solution."
"Veritas NetBackup's price could be a problem for small businesses."
"If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
"It is slightly more expensive than Commvault, but it is pretty much the same. It is an enterprise solution, so it scales quite well. It has a lot of features. So, you pay for what you get. It is not cheap, but it is fit for the purpose."
"Pricing is expensive, so it could be lower."
"We purchased a perpetual license and perform SMS renewals."
"Its price is quite reasonable. The cost depends on the depreciation and the volume. It also depends on the infrastructure. If your infrastructure increases, you would need some more licenses."
"NetBackup is expensive. They need to work on the pricing side. I find it comparatively on the higher side when I compare the terabyte backup costs."
"We are happy with the pricing that we have, but it's expensive."
