Cloud-managed solution that's good for small businesses
Pros and Cons
  • "Aruba Instant's best feature is the ability to manage it in the cloud."
  • "Aruba Instant's visibility, firewalling, L3 functionality, and DHCP services could all be improved."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use Aruba Instant to deploy the wireless end in smaller offices.

What is most valuable?

Aruba Instant's best feature is the ability to manage it in the cloud.

What needs improvement?

Aruba Instant's visibility, firewalling, L3 functionality, and DHCP services could all be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Aruba Instant for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Because Aruba Instant is cloud-only, it doesn't work if the internet goes down. When this happens, the device reboots and loses the local configuration, which means the LAN goes down.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Aruba Instant has limited scalability, with a recommended maximum of 100 users.

How are customer service and support?

Aruba's support is good, and we've had no issues with it.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward and easy to manage, even through mobile.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Aruba Instant is a free subscription with a limited lifetime warranty.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Aruba Instant for small businesses but not for enterprise. I would give it a rating of eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Has good integration with ClearPass and brilliant support
Pros and Cons
  • "The integration with ClearPass is the most valuable feature."
  • "The meshing could use improvement but aside from that nothing else really needs improvement."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for basic Wi-Fi and also for the captive portal authentication with 802.1X MAC.

What is most valuable?

The integration with ClearPass is the most valuable feature.

It also has good onboarding. It's a good product.

What needs improvement?

The meshing could use improvement but aside from that nothing else really needs improvement. It meshes well but the product's channels need to be understood better. It's not like Cisco. You set up your indoor stuff and there are channels you must exclude from the mesh.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Aruba for the last five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is very good. I'm very impressed with it. I've been working with it for years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Because it's Aruba, I can strap onto anything. We can use it anywhere.

Maybe an outdoor range would be nice.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their technical support is brilliant.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is very well situated.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it a nine out of ten.

Since I bought this brought I would like to have Aruba Central for free.

The product technically works fantastic but if I'm going to spend a couple of thousand rands on buying an access point, I'd like to have Aruba Central for free, for the equipment that I've purchased. That would be nice without purchasing the licenses because we've already purchased the hardware.

My advice to someone considering this solution is to put it everywhere and get rid of Cisco.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Good roaming features and very good scalability and stability
Pros and Cons
  • "The stability of the solution is very good."
  • "Technical support needs improvement. We use the forum for technical support assistance, but it's not enough. If you're talking with a technician, they're in India. They cannot give you the service that you need. Sometimes have problems with some personal services and technical support is not helpful in this area."

What is most valuable?

The roaming feature is the solution's most valuable aspect.

What needs improvement?

Technical support needs improvement. We use the forum for technical support assistance, but it's not enough. If you're talking with a technician, they're in India. They cannot give you the service that you need. Sometimes have problems with some personal services and technical support is not helpful in this area.

The solution needs to be more compatible with IoT and smart devices.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution is excellent.

How are customer service and technical support?

We aren't satisfied with technical support. If you open a ticket, it's 24 hours at least before they get back to you. If you're in the enterprise-level business you can wait, you can come in next day. However, a small or medium business cannot handle the cost of the delay.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

We're an Aruba reseller. Our clients are typically small and medium-sized companies.

It's a good product. If you are an enterprise business, you have your own team for every service and you have time to research, but for small companies, support is not good and you don't have the resources of an internal team that could mitigate that.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.
