I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This tool has great scaling capabilities, i.e., no limitations."
"From a testing standpoint, ignoring license and cost issues, it's not a bad product."
"We are able to spot issues much quicker with the use of the out-of-the-box metrics given to us by CA. But we also develop that further with the use of the EPA Agent and expand what we can give and show the business by creating our own scripts. This has allowed us to develop our own self-monitoring and before anybody else sees the issue we are on hand to solve that as quickly as possible."
"For me, the most valuable feature is being able to check memory patterns. We check them when we do load testing or soak testing to see if there are any memory leaks."
"One of the great features of CA APM is the analysis of application performance problems."
"Attribute decoration is a unique and very powerful feature. We can add meaningful meta information based on our internal demand."
"The most valuable feature of Broadcom DX Application Performance Management for me is transaction monitoring, and the technical support provided for the solution is also an advantage."
"Application triage is the most valuable feature; it gives precise insights about problems and leads to the root cause very quickly."
"Operations are able to view the performance of their applications and the real-user experience in business transactions, all through a single solution, CA Application Performance Management."
"Overall, APM improves our total customer experience and reduces our operational costs."

Cons

"My concern is with Automation integration."
"Needs the ability to dynamically create dashboards. Right now, we do custom dashboards. Everything is created manually."
"There needs to be more ability to report on the performance of the applications, so you could easily have a report run and give you all your performance stats for an application at the end of the month, or week, or after a release."
"The UI still feels a little outdated (though there is change) especially for Dashboards."
"The new experience center needs some improvement to works with all the attributes, but it offers great potential."
"Dynamic instrumentation, at the moment, I think it is a bit clunky to use and it should be available outside the transaction tracer."
"The stability could be more reliable."
"The reason it's not a ten is because they don't focus enough on improving over time like other competitors do who have a more modern and complete tool."
"Our users lag how to identify the root cause with this solution. If they could come up with a more user-friendly version, that would be a good thing, since other vendors currently have better features and more user-friendly products than CA APM."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It is definitely expensive for what we get, but there isn't an alternate option at the moment."
"Broadcom is a better and cheaper option from the financial perspective. It also depends on the DLP plug."
"The licensing costs are expensive."
"Setup costs are quite competitive relative to other solutions, and simpler."
"All discounts are case by case to accommodate the client's budgets."
"There is some research needed to determine licensing costs, based on the number of DataPower instances for the Nastel agent, for example."
"I'm unable to give information on Broadcom DX Application Performance Management licensing costs, but all Application Performance Management products have expensive pricing. This means that it's not only Broadcom that's expensive, and it would be an advantage if the cost would be a little bit cheaper."
"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
