Cost has remained low while implementation proceeds without complications
To capture the critical traffic to prioritize is not something I work with in advanced QoS features. Regarding VLAN support in bandwidth management, we are not utilizing VLAN for the infrastructure as we have a minimal requirement for VLAN, so we have not yet implemented any of the features relevant to the virtual LANs. It's very hard to answer the question about minor improvements D-Link Ethernet Switches could do with their products because the products I'm dealing with are just plug-and-play, unmanaged switches. It would be more appropriate to comment on features if I had been using Layer 2 or Layer 3 switches for at least a couple of months. I don't think there are any disadvantages I can point out for the product.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Overall, everything worked as they said it would."
"The product is stable. It does have only one power supply. They don't have a redundant power supply."
"We are able to customize this solution based on the customer's requirements."
"The most valuable feature for me is the stability of the switches."
"As someone with long-term experience with the product, I can say that you can trust the Alcatel switches."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the wireless access points that enable direct access to clusters, and this is also a very stable and scalable solution."
"The solution doesn't have many proprietary protocols like Cisco's. It mainly uses standard protocols like VRRP (similar to Cisco's HSRP), Spanning Tree, and Rapid Spanning Tree, which can sometimes cause integration issues."
"This is a dependable switch which will help you sleep at night."
"I have no complaints about the stability or reliability of D-Link Ethernet Switches."
"The tool's fault frequency is very less."
"D-Link DGS-1100 is a very useful gigabit Ethernet switch for small and medium sized businesses which can transfer data at high speeds and offers a lot of useful features."
"The initial setup was very easy and user-friendly."
"It is a stable solution."
"D-Link has a good VPN feature and quality of service."
"The solution is user-friendly."
"This product is very affordable, especially compared to Cisco."

Cons

"technical support response time is sometimes very slow."
"The solution could be more user friendly and there are issues with technical support where the response time is sometimes very slow."
"The commands for the switches could be easier as I find them more complex compared to those of Cisco."
"I could see them possibly creating a more intuitive software. It's very user-friendly, but there are some things that aren't very intuitive when programming the switches."
"The product would be better if it were completely compatible with other switching products."
"We had stability issues with Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch Ethernet Switches 6250. One issue is with licensing. When migrating from TDM to VoIP/ToIP solutions integrated on the same architecture, Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch Ethernet Switches don't have the same skill level or follow the same development path as companies like Cisco. They started integrating these solutions later, which is why there's a noticeable difference in advancement."
"There needs to be better integration with the interface."
"The network connection should be improved."
"There is room for improvement in terms of stability."
"The D-Link Ethernet Switches have to be replaced because they are difficult to manage and security is poor."
"This solution is not good for distribution at the core."
"For high-end switches, the price could be 5% to 10% cheaper. Improvements in the voltage facility, like increasing from 360 watts to 400 or 450 watts, would make them more competitive with other vendors."
"D-Link Ethernet Switches' switching capacity is low. The solution should improve stability and not support Cisco or Juniper networks."
"Areas of the solution that have room for improvement include scalability, as it should improve both scaling and security."
"They need to enhance stability."
"D-Link switches are not as robust as Cisco."
