Managed cloud services have helped accelerate experiments with flexible configuration options
Sometimes the costs associated with spinning up a service, especially managed services, have implications. For example, if I create a Glue job, that will create S3 buckets and other resources that have cost implications, but once I clean up a Glue job, it does not delete the other accessory resources. Sometimes, I have to go hunting for what resources Amazon AWS might have provisioned and how it is costing behind the scenes. It can be complex depending on your level of expertise. It is not as easy to get started, especially when it comes to secure practices. Amazon AWS is more hands-on than other platforms.

Has integrated protection with effective mitigation of DDoS attacks
The valuable features include its API Security, anti-bot protection, and web application firewall. It has greatly improved the security posture of my applications, web applications, and also effectively mitigates DDoS attacks. Before implementing the DDoS protection on F5 Volterra, there were about three successful DDoS incidents. Afterward, I did not experience a single incident for eight months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I believe it's a great product and great technology."
"We have many projects where we can resolve a lot of issues with Amazon AWS. It has given customers a lot of visibility with their data. Many customers do not know what they can learn from their data and I provide them with this using useful information using Amazon AWS."
"The stability of the solution is very good."
"I have found the trusted advisor tool works well, we are using it to get some insight into the security status and the processing of the applications."
"The solution is basically infrastructure to service the cloud; it can be used for everything and is an intelligently designed system that can run any workload on any data for backup, for production, for anything you imagine."
"The tool is a hosting platform that we can leverage to open servers. We can use it to build databases. We use cost management and high-performance capabilities of the tool."
"I especially like the flexibility and scalability of the solution."
"The payment structure is very good."
"The valuable features include its anti-PDUs, anti-bot protection, and web application firewall."
"It has greatly improved the security posture of my applications, web applications, and also effectively mitigates DDoS attacks."

Cons

"IaaS is sometimes way too complicated to complete one task."
"Price is an area with a shortcoming in the solution that has a scope for improvement"
"When the solution faces downtime, it can be for hours or half a day."
"Our API Management solution is integrated with Lambda, and last year, we had an issue while upgrading Lambda from version 8.0 to version 10. It seemed like Lambda runtime was changed by AWS, and there was a bug that caused the downtime. The loading of the dashboard is slow. It could be because I am located in China."
"The console's UI could be a little better, a fluid User Experience is missing."
"Some customers can become overwhelmed by the range of services, so training and assistance from specialized third-parties is strongly recommended."
"Amazon AWS could improve by being more secure and adding more features."
"The interface is relatively complex."
"The reporting needs improvement in Volterra. I do not have many options to create a customized report."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It seems to be reasonable. It's the first one that I've used as a cloud platform, so they've set the benchmark for me, and now, I'm comparing everything else to them."
"Monthly licensing fee."
"It's pay-as-you-go... but I think the pricing becomes a problem as the IT organization grows. They need to give better pricing when companies grow."
"The solution is on a pay-as-use pricing model. The price of the solution could always be better but it is priced competitively."
"There are no additional costs beyond the standard licensing fees."
"We are on an annual subscription for Amazon AWS."
"The tool’s pricing is reasonable."
"Amazon AWS has pay-as-you-go options available."
