Managed cloud services have helped accelerate experiments with flexible configuration options
Sometimes the costs associated with spinning up a service, especially managed services, have implications. For example, if I create a Glue job, that will create S3 buckets and other resources that have cost implications, but once I clean up a Glue job, it does not delete the other accessory resources. Sometimes, I have to go hunting for what resources Amazon AWS might have provisioned and how it is costing behind the scenes. It can be complex depending on your level of expertise. It is not as easy to get started, especially when it comes to secure practices. Amazon AWS is more hands-on than other platforms.

Has integrated protection with effective mitigation of DDoS attacks
The valuable features include its API Security, anti-bot protection, and web application firewall. It has greatly improved the security posture of my applications, web applications, and also effectively mitigates DDoS attacks. Before implementing the DDoS protection on F5 Volterra, there were about three successful DDoS incidents. Afterward, I did not experience a single incident for eight months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The impact of Amazon AWS is evident in every organization that uses cloud-based applications, making data storage, processing, and analysis more efficient and scalable while enabling faster decision-making with real-time access to analytics and dashboards."
"This solution is used as the basic requirement for any virtual machines use cases, the storage is used for each use case."
"So far, so good, it has met every challenge we have provided, it has worked, never failed, we have never experienced any kind of downtime, and we are very happy so far."
"Technical Support: Excellent"
"I am an integration specialist and Amazon AWS always seems to be a step ahead of the competition when it comes to the solutions integration abilities with its services."
"The solution offers a low footprint; we don't have to come up with a data center ourselves, we basically don't have to own any hardware, and by just renting a slice of their platform we have everything we need."
"It is intuitive, easy to deploy, and rather quick to deploy and set up. There are a number of native services in the ecosystem. These services are built into the cloud and are mature enough to support you in many ways."
"It has a dynamic scaling capacity which is very helpful."
"The valuable features include its anti-PDUs, anti-bot protection, and web application firewall."
"It has greatly improved the security posture of my applications, web applications, and also effectively mitigates DDoS attacks."

Cons

"There is room for improvement in cost. Everyone complains about AWS being expensive. The initial cost starts small but can skyrocket unexpectedly."
"Amazon AWS could improve on security."
"I think Amazon could improve some of the security or fine-grained access for metadata and many other things."
"One of the problems that I have seen is that some of the products are not as mature as others."
"AWS should provide even more support and engagement to accelerate the adoption of new services and features."
"AWS has room for improvement on the Kubernetes side. I would like to go a little deeper into the Kubernetes target, Elastic, inner system, and all that. The EKS, target, and all these areas need to be improved, but that is not my key area because I am mostly working on the application side."
"Amazon tools are for more mature DevOps. The process and the Dev is very good, but it doesn't compare to the ease of using the Google Cloud Platform."
"A person with no AWS experience might find it overwhelming at first."
"The reporting needs improvement in Volterra. I do not have many options to create a customized report."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I find Amazon AWS very expensive compare to Microsoft Azure."
"Be careful with your consumption, especially when you are testing things. Costs can creep up on you relatively fast, without even noticing."
"For our infrastructure, the cost is approximately $25 per device, and you have to include the other tools that we have in the cloud, for a total of approximately $200,000 per year."
"We pay for Amazon AWS annually."
"When it comes to professional certification in AWS, I implore others to study hard before your exams because $300 is a painful waste of money if you fail."
"It seems to be reasonable. It's the first one that I've used as a cloud platform, so they've set the benchmark for me, and now, I'm comparing everything else to them."
"They have different pricing models for each suite of services."
"The pricing is fair."
