Managed cloud services have helped accelerate experiments with flexible configuration options
Sometimes the costs associated with spinning up a service, especially managed services, have implications. For example, if I create a Glue job, that will create S3 buckets and other resources that have cost implications, but once I clean up a Glue job, it does not delete the other accessory resources. Sometimes, I have to go hunting for what resources Amazon AWS might have provisioned and how it is costing behind the scenes. It can be complex depending on your level of expertise. It is not as easy to get started, especially when it comes to secure practices. Amazon AWS is more hands-on than other platforms.

Has integrated protection with effective mitigation of DDoS attacks
The valuable features include its API Security, anti-bot protection, and web application firewall. It has greatly improved the security posture of my applications, web applications, and also effectively mitigates DDoS attacks. Before implementing the DDoS protection on F5 Volterra, there were about three successful DDoS incidents. Afterward, I did not experience a single incident for eight months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"AWS is stable and has provided a reliable infrastructure for my organization."
"It has good reporting and documentation."
"The product is easy to use."
"The monitoring is the most valuable aspect of the product."
"With the pay-as-you-go model, we don't have to predict future IT needs. We can just scale up as we want. That helps with a lot of agility in deploying stuff in our IT infrastructure."
"The scalability of Amazon AWS is excellent. I would rate it as a 10 out of 10 because they have massive power."
"We've built several AI ML solutions and done lots of work on the GPUs available on Amazon servers. We did a lot of work around web spidering, natural language processing, and machine learning or deep learning workloads."
"Works very quickly and is well managed."
"It has greatly improved the security posture of my applications, web applications, and also effectively mitigates DDoS attacks."
"The valuable features include its anti-PDUs, anti-bot protection, and web application firewall."

Cons

"The overall convenience and the ease to use could be improved."
"AWS is very expensive."
"The initial setup was very complex."
"The security right now needs improvement. It's not bad, per se. It's just that there's always room for improvement in security."
"The feedback we are getting from our customers, especially here in Turkey where the exchange rate fluctuates regularly, is that the solution is quite expensive."
"In terms of technical features, I don't see anything missing. The only two points in favor of other providers are the price and local support. The main problem that we see here in Brazil is the price. It is much more expensive than any other cloud provider. Their local support can also be better. We get more support from some of the other providers here in Brazil as compared to AWS."
"The solution could always be further improved on the commercial side of things. Amazon Web Services are not cheap. It would be ideal if it was less expensive for the customer."
"Amazon AWS could improve its user interface to make it more user-friendly, especially for people who are not highly technical."
"The reporting needs improvement in Volterra."
"The reporting needs improvement in Volterra. I do not have many options to create a customized report."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"In comparison to Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure, the database offered by Amazon AWS is relatively expensive. However, the database also offers rich features."
"The price could be better."
"The price is quite good; it is a pay-as-you-go option."
"You are not paying a licensing fee, you pay for consumption."
"The pricing may vary and is often influenced by marketing strategies."
"The pricing depends on the workload. For example, if your workload involves Windows technologies, AWS may not be the most cost-effective option. In that case, you might be better off with Azure."
"The tool is expensive."
"If I was going to compare the cost of Amazon AWS to Microsoft Azure, they are approximately the same."
