Scalability is a key feature as it allows easy scaling of the platform without downtime
OpenSearch is used as a search engine for specific logs, mainly in e-commerce and monitoring the logs themselves. It is very valuable for e-commerce, enabling data analysis on application logs and customer behavior, and can be integrated with other services, including AI and machine learning…

Identifying complex diagnostics and alert management improvements needed
The best features of Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) are the APM, the Application Performance Monitoring, and the diagnostic capabilities. It is state-of-the-art. The intelligent alerting in Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) is very good. The predictive analysis can give you proactive information about potential bottlenecks that can occur on applications, desk, storage, SQL servers, databases, or other systems. It is very effective. The customizable dashboards in Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) facilitate our customers because they are highly adaptable. We have multiple types of dashboards, depending on who will be utilizing them, such as engineering, middle management, IT heads, or NOC teams that will be monitoring systems. The metrics I rely on for monitoring in Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) depend on what kind of asset or CI we are monitoring. For applications, we have the number of concurrent transactions, response time from the database, and write time on the desk. There are multiple parameters and metrics that we utilize in the monitoring part within ITSI.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would definitely recommend Amazon OpenSearch Service to other professionals due to its fast and reliable search capabilities."
"It's a good log management platform. In terms of infrastructure management, it's good."
"Amazon OpenSearch Service provides a managed database solution, so we don't need to manage everything ourselves."
"They have the good documentation in the help text and that is the reason the Amazon is the perfect solution in the current market."
"The stability of the product is good."
"This service already sorts data like vectors. They have classified the storage pre-defined."
"The initial set up is very easy...We really appreciate Amazon!"
"We retrieve historical data with just a click of a button to move it from cold to hot or warm because it's already stored in the backend storage"
"Our mean time to detect is down to five minutes."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the aggregation of the metrics and the relative ease of getting them away from search."
"I particularly appreciate two features of Splunk ITSI: data forwarding and the marketplace."
"ITSI includes a feature called a glass table."
"The most valuable aspect lies in its utilization of predictive analytics to anticipate and prevent incidents within a window of twenty to thirty minutes."
"ITSI's KPI and correlation search aspects are powerful, and the service creation suits the project well. It allows for good segregation of the monitoring solution, and up-to-date quick-time monitoring. We're notified quickly when something goes wrong."
"Having a structure on how to resolve incidents is the most valuable aspect."
"Splunk ITSI can be easily integrated with the incident management platform. You can automate workflows and certain actions can be taken."

Cons

"I would say that, basically, the configuration part is an area with a shortcoming...Some upgradation is required on the configuration side so that we can get to use it."
"They can enhance data visualization."
"I want to see a new feature in Amazon Elasticsearch Service that allows users to create default filters for filtered levels."
"We faced documentation challenges during integration after migrating from Elasticsearch to Amazon OpenSearch Service. Better documentation on integration, query handling, and a more user-friendly UI could enhance the product."
"The configuration should be more straightforward because we had to select a lot of things."
"The pricing aspect is a concern. The service is way too costly. For the past month, I used only 30 to 40 MB of data, and the cost was $500. AWS could improve pricing."
"There is a problem with the database. Amazon only provides the hosting to run our applications bias, but there is no option to manage the database within the Elasticsearch product."
"In terms of data handling capabilities with Amazon OpenSearch Service, they can be complex and managing data in comparison to other SIM solutions is a major drawback, as it is very hard to handle the data."
"It is pretty okay. I am not sure whether the current release has already moved to the new framework where instead of the glass tables, we can directly use the Dashboard Studio. It would be nice to have that integrated into the same framework."
"Microservices is the only area where Splunk ITSI can be improved. When things come from one EC2 instance to another, there's a lack of exposure to microservices, so we can't know what's happening. Apart from that, it's doing pretty well."
"While integrating services and KPIs in ITSI is straightforward, I found it challenging to analyze them with the service analyzers; specifically, using the deep dive feature to pinpoint the exact source and time of an issue proved difficult."
"Currently, Glass tables in ITSI only display metrics related to KPIs."
"They should make it easier to use. Many people are new to it. It is hard and has a steep learning curve."
"Splunk ITSI could benefit from including more features that other solutions support, such as vulnerability management modules."
"We had issues with support that took a long time to resolve."
"The dashboard function inside the individual episodes, not at the ITSI Notable Event Aggregation Policy level but actually at the correlation search layer, is an area where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to other cloud platforms, it is manageable and not very expensive."
"There is a community edition available and the price of the commercial offering is reasonable."
"The solution is not expensive, but priced averagely, I will say."
"You only pay for what you use."
"I wouldn't say there's been an issue with the solution's pricing because we went through the AWS marketplace and negotiated directly with Splunk."
"The cost of the modules is a bit high for non-global companies, making it difficult for them to afford Splunk ITSI."
"Splunk ITSI is expensive; however, with the appropriate use case, it justifies the cost."
"Splunk ITSI is a pay-per-use service that is priced fairly based on the amount of data we use."
"Pricing has some room for improvement."
"Splunk ITSI is an expensive tool, and we need to purchase the utility license."
"It depends on how big an organization is. If we have a lot of resources, the licensing needs to be upgraded. If we have a small environment, the licensing cost is definitely going to be less."
"The licensing is based on data usage."
