Amazon OpenSearch Service is not providing the processing feature directly. From Amazon OpenSearch Service, we are actually maintaining the AWS SQS, the queue service, which is responsible for providing information about what data has to be modified. So using that SQS, we're actually providing it, but we're not directly using Amazon OpenSearch Service for keeping data to other data pipeline thing. So far we didn't use it for any machine learning purposes, but in future, we have plans to extend or implement this feature. Since AWS itself is secure and Amazon OpenSearch Service is a part of this entire ecosystem, it becomes much easier for security purposes. From the validation point of view, Amazon OpenSearch Service itself provides easy to communicate APIs and up-to-date documents, which is much beneficial. For example, if I'm missing anything, I can directly go and check the documentation. That is actually much easier. I would rate it as really good so far. It's much faster. For our local machine, we can also use a kind of replica of Amazon OpenSearch Service just for development purposes. That is another good feature. I would say for the encryption thing and also the user access control management, it's much faster. For some of these hashing algorithms, it also worked really well so far. To be honest, I didn't find any places where it can be improved. However, I think they could provide more abstraction. For example, still for searching, we have to write down the queries in a specific manner, such as for a specific JSON structure or in a specific way. Otherwise, they don't provide us the actual results. For at least this purpose, I think abstraction could be a bit easier or a bit improved. Other than that, right now there is the age of AI, so some kind of prompting could also work, but I'm not sure how it could be integrated. As a user, lower prices or reasonable pricing is always better. Those can be improved as well. However, it is good that most of the services including Amazon OpenSearch Service actually provide pay as you go pricing. So if there were a bit lower version or a bit less payment methodology, it might be much better.

The installation process is the first aspect I dislike about Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence). If you do not configure it correctly, you will encounter issues in the search head. Because we use a distributed environment where each component has its own specific roles, installation is critical and requires careful attention. Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) is built with many applications. It is a compressed file, and when you extract the Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) app, you receive approximately 19 apps. Some applications, add-ons, and packages must be installed on specific components. If you do not configure an application correctly, it will not work. Sometimes we encounter issues during installation because of this complexity. I believe the installation process should be more uniform, meaning it could be deployed across all components to avoid post-installation issues. Sometimes after installation, you receive errors, and users cannot access Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence). We have experienced this type of issue due to installation errors. I believe there is currently room for improvement regarding scalability. When we create Glass Tables containing many searches, the Glass Tables sometimes fail due to memory constraints, and we receive error pages. Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) should have a lightweight version to address these concerns. I would rate current scalability as medium.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's actually easier to collaborate since it is already deployed in the AWS cloud itself."
"The business analytics capabilities are the most important feature it provides."
"The initial set up is very easy...We really appreciate Amazon!"
"Regarding valuable features of the solution, we found with the process, which we have used in both cases where we used the solution that while you're seeing the streaming of data, you can analyze in the initial phase what sort of data you are streaming and whether it is valuable."
"I would definitely recommend Amazon OpenSearch Service to other professionals due to its fast and reliable search capabilities."
"The customer service is excellent, rated nine out of ten."
"Our customers have seen tangible benefits from Amazon OpenSearch Service, especially in terms of their applications running smoothly, so they do get a return on investment."
"It's a good log management platform. In terms of infrastructure management, it's good."
"We can automate routine tasks. We're able to create alerts, reports, scheduled searches, et cetera. It's helping us to save time."
"The feature that stood out to me most from Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI) was automated dashboarding or reporting. The solution lists the severity level of issues, and the response times."
"ITSI includes a feature called a glass table."
"The search function is the most valuable. It includes regular expressions and wild card searches. We'll write searches using field and case-sensitive services and use all of these search types to write an alert condition. Splunk ITSI has another feature called Glass Table that offers a visual representation."
"From my experience of working with Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) for two years, the most beneficial aspect for me is that it is AI-enabled, providing us with very good analytics."
"Splunk ITSI helps us secure our environment by allowing us to create automatons that run when alerts are triggered."
"The most valuable feature is the Glass Tables. It gives you a nice, good overview of your KPIs. It's really slick and clean."
"The observability is great and valuable."

Cons

"Amazon Elasticsearch can improve the bullion in the near search and the ease of integration with Kibana. Additionally, there could be more flexibility in the configuration and documentation."
"One glaring issue was with our mapping configuration as the system accepted the data we posted, but after a few months, when we attempted complex queries, we realized the date formatting had become problematic."
"There is a problem with the database. Amazon only provides the hosting to run our applications bias, but there is no option to manage the database within the Elasticsearch product."
"The configuration should be more straightforward because we had to select a lot of things."
"I want to see a new feature in Amazon Elasticsearch Service that allows users to create default filters for filtered levels."
"In terms of data handling capabilities with Amazon OpenSearch Service, they can be complex and managing data in comparison to other SIM solutions is a major drawback, as it is very hard to handle the data."
"As a user, lower prices or reasonable pricing is always better."
"I would say that, basically, the configuration part is an area with a shortcoming...Some upgradation is required on the configuration side so that we can get to use it."
"ITSI is an almost perfect tool, but there is room for improvement in a few features like the deep dive and multi-KPI alerts. We're using most of the features like service API, coding searches, and aggregation, but our team members hardly use multi-KPI and deep dive. We don't use the multi-KPI or deep dive because everything is available in the service KPI. I don't think this feature is necessary."
"While integrating services and KPIs in ITSI is straightforward, I found it challenging to analyze them with the service analyzers; specifically, using the deep dive feature to pinpoint the exact source and time of an issue proved difficult."
"The problem becomes the price, as Splunk is an expensive product."
"When we check the service analyzer, and we have custom inputs, there are issues."
"Splunk ITSI lacks out-of-the-box solutions for enterprise users."
"It would be advantageous to enhance the dashboard by incorporating sections for monitoring, service health, and a filter for the KPIs."
"The installation process is the first aspect I dislike about Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence). If you do not configure it correctly, you will encounter issues in the search head."
"Microservices is the only area where Splunk ITSI can be improved. When things come from one EC2 instance to another, there's a lack of exposure to microservices, so we can't know what's happening. Apart from that, it's doing pretty well."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to other cloud platforms, it is manageable and not very expensive."
"You only pay for what you use."
"The solution is not expensive, but priced averagely, I will say."
"There is a community edition available and the price of the commercial offering is reasonable."
"Splunk ITSI is expensive compared to other tools."
"I would prefer that the price be reduced, as it would be easier to implement it and to sell it."
"The licensing is based on data usage."
"I know that it is expensive, but I do not think there is another solution that can do similar things for that price."
"Pricing was pretty good, and it is possible to just add on the features we want."
"I wouldn't say there's been an issue with the solution's pricing because we went through the AWS marketplace and negotiated directly with Splunk."
"Splunk ITSI is an expensive tool, and we need to purchase the utility license."
"It would have been good if the product cost was much lower."
