Efficient mobile testing with intuitive emulation capabilities and a user-friendly interface
Initial setup for Appium (especially for iOS) is not beginner-friendly.Consumes too much of your host machine's resources, potentially slowing down the machine.Appium Inspector often lacks deep insight or crashes with certain app builds. Improve test flakiness by intelligently selecting robust self-healing locators, simplified installers, better documentation, GUI-based config management, smart wait mechanisms and better failure logs.

The best features that BrowserStack offers include the ability to run manual and automated tests on real devices. We can create bugs, integrate it with other platforms like Jira or Azure, and use self-healing scripts with Selenium. We also have the test runs for different versions or with different frameworks, not just Selenium but with Playwright as well. Additionally, there are real-time dashboards and notifications sent when tests fail or when we need screenshots or recordings of test executions, and we can easily integrate this into our pipelines. BrowserStack has positively impacted my organization by providing an out-of-the-box solution for whole test executions across different projects for our automobile customers. We have worked on around twenty to thirty projects, and the need for a stable, customizable single test execution platform that supports different platforms has been met. It has helped manage the entire quality assurance of the product efficiently. The measurable improvements due to BrowserStack include a significant efficiency gain, allowing the whole team to collaborate on testing and communicate faster. Also, the easier integration with project management tools has been beneficial. The documentation of findings has improved, which helps us share insights with different project stakeholders.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For the particular use case we used Appium for, we felt that it served our purpose completely, and we haven't had any issues with the Python Client for Appium."
"The latest versions of the solution are stable."
"What I like about Appium right now is that it's like Cypress in the sense that............. to test the components in the way I want them to be tested."
"The interface is user-friendly, which is beneficial for users, even for those who are new to it."
"The most valuable features of Appium are the in-built functionality, which we can use in our code. For example, move back, move front, navigate one page before, and navigate one page ahead. You can do this by using the in-built functions from Appium."
"The solution helps with test automation. We focus mostly on Java."
"Overall, Appium is the best; it has the flexibility, simplicity, and it is elegant, technically more advanced, and even a beginner can start using Appium very quickly and master it in less time."
"Appium's wide support of programming languages is valuable."
"BrowserStack has positively impacted my organization by providing an out-of-the-box solution for whole test executions across different projects for our automobile customers."
"BrowserStack has helped us with automating our test cases by reducing the time by almost 60%."
"The product guides and resources are extensive and very helpful."
"I like that it offers full device capability."
"Maintenance of the solution is easy."
"The product's initial setup phase was not very difficult."
"The most valuable feature is the variety the solution offers around the different types of devices, especially mobile devices."
"For BrowserStack, it's helpful for me to test on different devices."

Cons

"Appium could improve by enabling record and run techniques similar to what they have in other licensing tools, such as Micro Focus. We have to all write the code, and then we can proceed."
"There is always a concern about the amount of code that is required to enhance the automation process."
"One thing which can be really helpful is that there is some kind of a recorder made available rather than scripting everything."
"Support-wise, it could be better. Whenever we get some issues, it may take some time."
"The last time I used it, whenever I selected and clicked on an element, Appium was very slow."
"It should provide reliable and promising executions every time without any interruptions and avoiding any synchronization issues."
"An application developed on the Unity platform, such as a gaming application, objects are moving in that case. Interacting with those elements is still lacking in Appium. Appium doesn't have the internal library to play with the Unity platform. That is a huge lack right now."
"It needs to accommodate applications that use React.js and AngularJS."
"I would like for there to be more integration with BrowserStack and other platforms."
"My review rating for BrowserStack is seven out of ten."
"There is room for improvement in pricing."
"Sometimes BrowserStack is really slow and devices are not loading. It is really annoying and that's why we bought several newer devices because sometimes it's affecting us a lot."
"BrowserStack sometimes works well and other times it is very slow."
"While I was testing I was not 100% sure it was properly mimicking the browsers or not."
"Initial set-up is easy, but if you start with automation, it's bit confusing and I found it tough to set-up."
"I think false positives are an area where BrowserStack can improve, as I have often seen things working fine on actual devices, but on BrowserStack devices, issues arise due to network slowness or AWS region connectivity problems that cause lag."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is open source."
"Appium is open source; we can use it for free."
"It's open source, so it's completely free."
"Appian is open-source, which is not licensed."
"As far as I know, Appium is a free solution. It's not for commercial use."
"I'm unsure if there's any cost associated with Appium. I got the free package which includes the server GUI application and the inspector application, and it was free to download, and that's all I need to get my work done. I'm not aware of any additional costs associated with the tool."
"There is no license for this solution because it is open-source."
"It's completely 100% free, and there are no hidden fees."
"The price is fine."
"There are different licenses available that can be customized. You can select the features that you want only to use which can be a cost-benefit."
"BrowserStack could have a better price, but good things have a price."
"As for pricing, I can't provide a clear evaluation as I'm not directly involved in those discussions."
"My company found the product's license to be very compatible with our budget, and we pay 5,000 to 10,000 per year for licenses."

"This solution costs less than competing products."
"The price of BrowserStack is high."
