Helps me be proactive in solving a customer's problem before it even happens
This is a new solution by HP. It's less than two years, we're among the first to implement the solution, so I'm sure that there is a lot of room for enhancement and continuous improvement in the future. They have added a new feature, which was not part of the solution, which is they support what they call hybrid apps; before, it was only supporting native. That is something they work with your R & D, whereby they support this feature in the parent version of AppPulse.

AI-driven insights have reduced downtime and improved cross-team collaboration
We encountered some challenges while using Dynatrace. Although the initial setup was smooth, fine-tuning alert thresholds and custom metrics took some time. Another challenge was that Dynatrace charges based on host units, so we had to carefully plan our agent deployments. The licensing model is expensive. Additionally, the complexity of setup is an issue. While OneAgent and auto-discover services are powerful, the setup is more complex compared to other tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. These integrations are simple and basic, but Dynatrace setup requires more complexity based on the environment. For new users wanting to use Dynatrace, it is difficult. However, the AI-related solutions and metrics took us to the next level for identifying and fixing things. Dynatrace requires an agent for operation. OneAgent is powerful, but it is also resource-heavy. On lightweight nodes or older systems, the agent can slightly impact performance. If Dynatrace could implement a lightweight agent behavior, we could make things faster. Additionally, if Dynatrace could add a long-term retention policy so that we could store more data and find fine-grained details, that would help us. While Dynatrace managed edition supports on-premises deployment, the SaaS version depends on cloud connectivity. For highly regulated or air-gapped environments, setup and updates can be challenging. Although the initial setup is smooth, if someone wants to fine-tune it and fully understand the tool end-to-end, it could be tricky.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The benefits are the ease of integration into OMI, the speed of the deployment, and the quick ROI in value that it adds in a space where we were kind of flying blind before we had it."
"It provides a lot of customer insight, understanding the customer's needs, understanding the customer's issues, and it gives me a more proactive approach to solving a customer problem before it happens."
"The FunDex is a valuable feature for our organization."
"AppPulse Active allows us to very quickly produce synthetic monitoring for our applications, for some applications we've never been able to monitor before, some older legacy applications."
"Customers are seeing the benefits immediately, mainly in the back office."
"Customer are able to develop more quickly versions in which users can see the application to correct and monetize it."
"We launched the Take It app in France last June, and we had 10,000 active users, five percent of our users experienced crashes, so we decided to add AppPulse Mobile to our app, and crashes dropped from five to 0.44 percent while during the same time period our users jumped to 120,000."
"This product has many valuable features, and it is very important for us to identify the response time, identify the different operating systems, the brand of the smart phones, and where customers are using them - not only in Mexico, but in different parts of the world."
"We spend less time investing in problems, and we can spend more time on developing new projects."
"The real user experience monitoring is very helpful. We can see what real users are seeing, what JavaScript errors, what pages are very slow for them. As well, it helps to correlate the front-end users to the back-end application components, and the corresponding Method which is failing, as well. We are able to go to the correct spot and fix the issue."
"We were able to decrease the number of production defects ever since we started using Dynatrace in our test environment."
"I've used New Relic and AppD and the IBM Application Performance Monitoring solutions, so I've seen lots of them, and Dynatrace is definitely the better of them all, by a long shot."
"Dynatrace not only tells you that your users are having issues with your application, but also where you should look to fix the issues."
"The Davis artificial intelligence built-in program is valuable. It keeps all the information about the systems, connections, service calls, and requests in its database. It looks at response times and keeps everything in check with baseline figures. If anything goes outside of that baseline, it reports based on that. If the performance starts degrading, it reports on that. Before something breaks, it tells you that it is going to break, and that's the most useful feature of Dynatrace."
"Our company gets quick response times and qualified responses from technical support, so that is good."
"With PurePath, I am able to find the root cause of the error or bug existing in our system."

Cons

"There are some cases where the product cannot perform an analysis initially, and this may be a stability issue."
"It needs compatibility for Windows Mobile, because I think AppPulse doesn't have Windows Mobile."
"I would love if AppPulse delivered more details about my users, for example, age and sex. It could split up the users into categories based on how frequently they use my product."
"We are using AppPulse, but not as extensively as we expected, due to the limitations and the regulations that we have to meet."
"It could be better if you had any of the reports that the customers asked from us, for example, punctually. Unfortunately, the reporter is not that practical."
"The regulations should be better customized for the kind of data that we cannot send to the SALs environment."
"I think they can improve the feature that identifies the operating systems, the brand of the devices, the response time, geolocalization."
"There are some things I look forward to – alerts, service level management calculations, API so I can get the data from somewhere else rather than just the website, customizable time frame so I can adjust the date and time."
"There are a lot of features that could be added that would make this a very useful solution, but it is getting there."
"Improvements are needed in the navigation and time-frame selection when browsing problems, sometimes the time-frame set changes and I need to re-set it again, plus I find the navigation bar on the top left quite cumbersome."
"The one thing I am really missing is the final Azure dashboard."
"I would love to see Dynatrace get more involved in the security realm."
"Ease of use could be improved because it can be hard to determine how you made it to the screen you are on and how to get back to it later."
"Every time we spin up an EC2 instance, we have to slap an agent on it and that is more work. So, if it could go agentless, that would be great."
"Some of the APIs and integrations are a bit tougher than others to integrate."
"The solution is a bit pricey."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was a no-brainer from a cost perspective compared to the other tools that we buy as an IT organization."
"We have a three-year contract. We have 30 licenses for the full stack and 3 licenses for the DEM unit."
"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was a pretty straightforward process. We had no hiccups."
"Dynatrace has a place for everybody. How you use it and what your budgetary limitations are will dictate what you do with it. But it's within everybody's reach. If you're a small organization and you have a large infrastructure, you may not be able to monitor the whole thing. You may have to pick and choose what you want to monitor, and you have the ability to do so. Your available funds are going to dictate that."
"Consider volume because that is where you will get the most benefit. Doing a point solution is not cost-effective."
"I think the pricing is at a fair value for what it is."
"Its license is a bit expensive. We renew it yearly."
"Just go with Dynatrace. Just start with Dynatrace. Do not go into AppMon. Start with Dynatrace, because AppMon is going to give you so much extra stuff that 99% of your user base will not need it, including yourself."
"Dynatrace is very good and it's provided a lot of information, it plays a positive role in making your application up to date in the market. If you want to monitor some applications only, it would be cheaper if you did cloud monitoring, but the price benefit depends on the use case."
