Backup and recovery options integrate smoothly while affordability remains a challenge
My relationship with Veeam is that I am a reseller and system integrator. The support for both cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure from Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 impacts my data protection strategy because that's the reason we are using Veeam. Veeam is a platform that supports both on-prem and cloud. It's a single pane of glass that we can support both, which is one of the good reasons we are using Veeam. The key benefits my organization has experienced with Veeam's integration of SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, and Teams within its data protection framework are that single licensing is one of the things customers prefer to use because it's very easy for them to manage. I would rate Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 overall an eight on a scale from 1 to 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In terms of data recovery, both the performance and reliability have been excellent."
"The data application is working well, and it does manage to match data when using the data option."
"The most valuable aspect of Veeam is its stability."
"The tool is easy to use and straightforward regarding restoration and creating backups. It's user-friendly, providing results and sending alerts when something goes wrong."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup for Office 365 is the backups, we do not want to lose any files. Each one of the files is updated on a regular long-term basis and kept together in the Microsoft cloud-only."
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward."
"Its ability to restore at the item level is very valuable. It is very strong at that. In the past, we had to restore a lot of data only for a couple of items. We can now restore an item as well as an email, which is good for productivity."
"Once you set it up, it works very well. You do not have to go back to reconfigure it– it is very easy to use"
"The way it backs up personal files is great."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup for Office 365 is its performance. Additionally, the user interface and documentation are easy to use and navigate."

Cons

"There are limitations with new hardware where it does not support failover and does not support the three-star bank group."
"They should include the capability to back up on-premises environments."
"When you are working in the Cloud security is very important."
"Veeam's performance is inconsistent."
"They need to enable the encryption of backups so that nobody can gain access unless they have encryption details."
"The solution should have backup integration features, not just concerning mail but also when it comes to such solutions as SharePoint."
"Veeam Backup for Office 365 can improve by reducing the time it takes for backups. I have mentioned this to Veeam and hopefully, in the next version, it will be a faster backup."
"In some instances, a customer is not necessarily backing up Microsoft 365. For instance, they might be backing up a large Oracle database. It would be nice if they could tweak it to compress the file, so it's easier to transfer a huge file."
"We would like to have a single management console for all of our backups."
"One area that needs improvement is the pricing of Veeam Backup, as it can be expensive at $28 per user for one year."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The SaaS platform offers many benefits; the licensing structure is suitable for monitoring and controlling users' storage space."
"The pricing model makes this solution more expensive than it needs to be."
"I think it's a fair price. It's around $36 per user, so I think it's a fair price for our customers."
"The pricing is middle-of-the-road compared with competing products."
"From our perspective in South Africa, our biggest challenge is the exchange rate from the South African currency to the US dollar. This makes it a bit pricey for us. However, compared to other backup solutions available, I would rate the pricing at a nine out of ten. For the servers, features, and functionality you get, it's worth the money. Of course, we'd always prefer things to be cheaper, but we also understand that you have to pay for proper functionality. So overall, it's not badly priced at all."
"It is strictly subscribed on a per-user basis."
"I have a per-user license for the number of users and the mailboxes that I have."
"The cost is a bit on the high side."
"There is a license required for this solution and we pay annually."
