Effortlessly manages large-scale data migrations and improves cost efficiency
There were some areas that could be improved with Avepoint FLY, particularly regarding an issue with the final reporting. While I cannot remember the exact issue, it was related to the final report concerning which files were migrated and what errors occurred. However, this could have been a user problem rather than an application problem.

Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Pros

"If a company is looking for something that is easy to use and not too complicated, this is perfect."
"I would rate the stability a ten out of ten."
"Some of the best features with Avepoint FLY are that it is very easy to use, and the tool moves files quite quickly."
"The initial setup phase can be described as a very user-friendly one...The solution's technical support was good since they responded very promptly."
"The most valuable feature of AvePoint FLY is its ability to install or use multiple client servers using a single master server and balance the migration load depending on our needs."
"The solution is very straightforward to use. It's not overly difficult to figure out."
"It allows for my organization to quickly recover from any disaster with very little downtime utilizing a user interface that requires minimal knowledge or experience."
"This solution has given us the confidence to know that our complex systems are being backed up off-site in real-time and are testable on demand."
"It's a nice tool, and you should go for it; I don't think you'll be disappointed."
"I would give it an eight out of 10, if not a nine out of 10, when it comes to ease of use."
"I appreciate most that we can do quick failover tests without actually going to live failover, which is very helpful because we have to do SOC audits, and they want to see that we do test this. It is extremely easy to test to show whether or not these things boot up in a test environment, which they do."
"Zerto gives us peace of mind knowing that if we were attacked by ransomware, we would be able to recover data from the time before the ransomware to get us back to being fully functional."
"ZVR is very simple to setup and administer, out of the box it just works and allows me to set my replication source and destinations and nearly forget it."
"I love the product and their support."

Cons

"Technical support is lacking in that they don't seem to respond. I do a lot of research myself. I can't rely on them."
"Right now, AvePoint FLY doesn’t provide us with help to identify the size of the mailed items for a certain period."
"There were some areas that could be improved with Avepoint FLY, particularly regarding an issue with the final reporting. While I cannot remember the exact issue, it was related to the final report concerning which files were migrated and what errors occurred."
"The initial setup is a little bit more complex than setting up Cloud Backup for Avepoint."
"The solution's reporting could be improved because it does not have a lot of reporting capabilities."
"The technical support response needs improvement."
"The VPG model causes us a bit of concern. We are considering using Zerto to replace Site Recovery Manager. Site Recovery Manager is very easy when we have entire data scores being replicated. We don't have to make any decisions when it comes to groupings. It is all covered. If we move to Zerto, which we are considering, we will have to work much closer with the applications teams to develop the VPG configuration and determine how the VMs will be grouped. It will be a lot more overhead for us to go that route."
"Analytics has a 90-day window, where it keeps data. It would be nice to have on-prem storage instead of cloud storage for that so we can keep the data for longer. Unless you discover the problem within three months, you don't know that you need the data. Then, it is gone by the time you realize there is an issue."
"When we are trying to upgrade any virtual machines, we have to stop the virtual machines that have been replicated in Zerto and then upgrade or update to the virtual machines onsite. Instead of having to do it manually, there should be some way of automating that particular function."
"The GUI could be streamlined a bit more to enhance the administrative tasks."
"Their data backup and restore have some ways to go."
"We would like the LTR function to be able to retain the past 12 months."
"Our operational teams have discussed the ability to integrate multiple Zerto cloud platforms more seamlessly. For example, we have acquired 22 companies over the last seven years. Some already had it deployed, and integrating those existing deployments into our primary deployment is more challenging than it could be. We have provided our feedback to them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The prices of the tool are neither low nor high, so it can be considered a moderately-priced product."
"AvePoint FLY's pricing is good enough for its capabilities."
"There are two different ways of licensing Avepoint FLY. So either you can use set up a licensing form based on objects which we do not recommend because then it will be more costly. So what you do is you set up the migration based on the users instead."
"We are using the trial version and find it to be costly. It's something around $20. With another attachment, the cost was lower, at about $3. However, you seem to have to buy more licenses than you need."
"Zerto does a per-workload licensing model, per-server. It is simple and straightforward, but it is not super flexible. It is kind of a one size fits all. They charge the same price for those workloads. I feel like they could have some flexible licensing option possibly based on criticality, just so we could protect less important work. I would love to protect every workload in my environment with Zerto, whether I really need it or not, but the cost is such that I really have to justify that protection. So, if we had some more flexibility, e.g., you could protect servers with a two-, three-, or four-hour RPO at a certain price point versus mission-critical every five minutes, then I would be interested in that."
"Price-wise, it works fine for me, but my budgetary team is always looking for ways to cut costs, and it seems like they first look at the data center and the IT side to find savings."
"There may be less expensive solutions on the market but with Zerto, you get what you pay for."
"It is less expensive than the full solution that we had previously, but at the same time, it's not an inexpensive product either."
"I know it is per server, but I am not fully aware of the price model. I know for our VDI environment, they are looking at something that is on the lower end and that they can use just for migrations and not so much a disaster recovery."
"It is not the cheapest option on the market, but it offers a number of features that make it a good value for businesses that need a comprehensive disaster recovery plan."
"The licensing model is good. The price is a little bit expensive, but for what customers get on it, it tends to pay for itself. However, if more and more companies start to improve, then Zerto may need to look at their pricing and make it a little better."
"The pricing doesn't seem too bad for what it does."
