Very cost-effective and well organized with good compression
It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company. A managerial user who wants more information beyond the operational technician should be able to access it. It could include greater transparency regarding the volume of data trafficked on the network, as well as the expectation of deduplication. A more practical strategy could come with a backup policy model as a suggestion for both large and small companies. A simple suggestion is to visually implement the backup time as far as your physical media.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Bacula is pretty stable."
"The most valuable feature is its ease of use; it works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure."
"The support is outstanding and world-class."
"The solution has extensive documentation and a very active community."
"The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization."
"We have been using it for several years and we are very satisfied with how easy it is to configure and set up and run backups."
"It brought many advantages - such as the learning curve being very light."
"Bacula is very solid, very stable, and very scalable."
"One of the valuable features is the instant recovery for VMs, as it reduces the RTO (Recovery Time Objective) drastically."
"The price is reasonable for the features it offers."
"The price is one of the best."
"The Exchange restore is the most valuable feature; the restore granularity that the product offers is great, right down to the individual emails, saving a ton of time and effort for the admins and resulting in far less frustration for the end user, which equates to more time for admins to address more pressing issues and increases employee productivity."
"One nice feature with Backup Exec is mainly that disaster can happen to any server and the disk image can be destroyed very easily. It's also easy to fully email the backup image and restore the server."
"This is a product that I strongly recommend, and I plan on using it for the long term."
"It can support all of my backup, and all of my applications."
"Excellent backup tool for doing disk to disk to tape."

Cons

"Relying solely on a desktop is a bit frustrating as its GUI isn't exactly responsive."
"We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist."
"The interface needs to be easier for adding new devices to be managed."
"We would like to see an improvement in the functionality of the GUI."
"A more user-friendly interface (GUI) can be developed."
"Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement."
"Many features have been converted to commercial licensing, which restricts their availability."
"It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company."
"The pricing is an area of improvement and the mode of marketing it."
"We need to have duplication and better compression. We don't really get that with Veritas."
"There are some products that include disaster recovery which Veritas is lacking for now."
"There needs to be an integration process of the endpoint devices so that we don't have to redo everything for different products."
"It doesn't support the AIX platform."
"Firstly, the GUI for 2014 is mostly confusing, i.e., if you need to add any additional technical features, then it doesn't require a change to the GUI."
"The cost is quite high. Along with the general costs, the supposed agents that you have to buy for the various options that you want to use ends up driving the costs higher as well."
"Service pack releases mean you need to apply it to the media server and then manually update each agent. Can be time-consuming."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an open-source solution."
"We have a perpetual license."
"The price of this solution is a bit high."
"The product's price is reasonable."
"The product is inexpensive compared to enterprise software."
"The pricing can be improved."
"Licensing depends on the part of the backup you're using. If you have SQL backup, then you must have a SQL license. If you have normal data backup, you would require a license for that."
"The solution could be more cost-effective."
"There is an evaluation license available to test this solution."
"It is affordable, but I hope that the price will come down a lot because of other competitors. It is a good price for the customer, but sometimes, the competition provides a much lower price. There are two ways to license it. You can license it per instance or per terabytes of data that we are mocking up. It is enough because it is not so complex. It is good when you're working with customers."
