Ease of backup and restore improves data management with reliable support
The interface of BDRSuite Backup & Replication is pretty intuitive. Regarding their marketing strategy, I'm very bad at marketing. I always get a little edgy when people try to shove their product in my face. There are two sides to the story. If you don't know something exists, you might not even start to look for it unless you really know that you need it. If you are explicitly looking for a solution, then you'll find it. People that don't know that they should do backup don't have a place in IT. I rate BDRSuite Backup & Replication 8.5 out of 10.

Offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites
It offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots. It allows for automated VM protection during processes like failover and testing, and it offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites. It also provides IP address management when network configurations differ across sites.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's something that sits there and does its job, and does it well."
"The licensing and pricing are good; it's a no-brainer, it is affordable, and it has value with respect to the features included in the software."
"It's easy to restore."
"Their technical support is very good to work with, as they are able to propose alternate solutions to problems that work well for us."
"We replaced it with Vembu and we're quite happy."
"We are quite happy with the latest version and how it works."
"The solution helps us deliver an enterprise-level data protection solution and reduce budgets."
"The compression, encryption and deduplication features are fabulous and great stuff."
"The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any kind of bug or glitch. We haven't experienced crashes."
"One person can do the whole implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the solution."
"The most valuable feature is that it is journal-based and you don't have to replicate a lot of data."
"Continuous replication with lower RTO and RPO is the most innovative feature, and its tight integration with VMware for VMware VMs is also valuable."
"The most valuable features are the data center recovery administration and the time of recovery."
"The speed and the footprint the solution uses regarding storage are great."
"The technical support from Dell is excellent."
"The product's initial setup phase was quite easy to install."

Cons

"In the beginning, when we had some hiccups, I would chalk that up more to a learning curve for the product."
"Vembu BDR currently supports backups of O365, although it does not currently have an email archiving function to the O365 backups."
"We had problems, initially in setting it up. There was a major bug and the backup process corrupted one of our virtual machines which was a live customer system."
"Windows 10 does not have application-aware backups. From my point of view, that's what exists and needs improvement."
"I have had issues with new client registrations. There are frequent connectivity issues to the cloud servers. Multiple times, I have had to prove to support that it wasn’t a problem on my end. It always works out in the end, but it is troubling to have the same issues repeated across different clients. Issues eventually get escalated to the cloud team and are mysteriously resolved with no changes on my end."
"The reporting can use some improvement."
"I saw that it's not possible to have the last full backup duplicated on our site. Therefore, if I have a lot of information on the main site, I would not want to copy any information to those site servers. It would be nice to be able to make a copy of the last full backup."
"Maybe they can add some features regarding working with the vCenter cluster to be able to have more power over the cluster overall, not just over a single or specific host."
"It can have better integration. It would be good if, in addition to VMware VM, it can also support other hypervisors. I also want to see support for Oracle databases. As of now, it supports only SQL and Exchange. It would be good to also support other databases."
"It would be good to have a critical application on the customer side."
"The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard. If it could be simplified it might be better for the end user."
"The solution could improve by being more easier to use. Additionally, there could be better support and compatibility with management by having a command-line interface."
"The solution currently supports only VMware."
"The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard."
"I would like to see integration with EMC NetWorker in the next release."
"I would like to have the HTML 5 interface working because it is currently not functioning with the VMware environment."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is pretty reasonable."
"For our company, the current price of Vembu against Veeam is a few times cheaper. In our infrastructure, if we picked Veeam, we would have to pay about $20,000 per year. Now, we are currently paying about $2,000 per year for Vembu. You can do the math. The price is great."
"Vembu is too expensive because they don't really have small-business pricing. This is a matter of personal opinion. They're going to tell you that they have competitive pricing because there are more expensive solutions in the marketplace, but there are better solutions in the marketplace that are more expensive. Their product is a better fit for small businesses, but they don't price it that way."
"Previously, we used Veeam Backup, but we replaced it with Vembu. We switched because Vembu is more cost-effective. So, price was a factor."
"The pricing is good. The tough part is estimating storage needs."
"It's just the license per host with one CPU, but if I did choose offsite cloud replication, they do charge for the data. They charge per gigabyte, or something like that. They have plans."
"We were able to take advantage of a promotional pricing campaign."
"We chose this solution because it was cheaper and easier to use than Veeam and other solutions of this type."
"This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
"This is an expensive product."
"The tool is expensive. If one means cheaply priced and ten means expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven."
"It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."
"Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
"There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
