Ease of backup and restore improves data management with reliable support
The interface of BDRSuite Backup & Replication is pretty intuitive. Regarding their marketing strategy, I'm very bad at marketing. I always get a little edgy when people try to shove their product in my face. There are two sides to the story. If you don't know something exists, you might not even start to look for it unless you really know that you need it. If you are explicitly looking for a solution, then you'll find it. People that don't know that they should do backup don't have a place in IT. I rate BDRSuite Backup & Replication 8.5 out of 10.

Offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites
It offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots. It allows for automated VM protection during processes like failover and testing, and it offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites. It also provides IP address management when network configurations differ across sites.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The support side of it, the usability, the ease of it: It is user friendly; we've tried other software before and it wasn't that great on the user front, but this software seems pretty straightforward."
"The automated backup of multiple virtual machines. We can back up two hypervisors, one is Microsoft Hyper-V and the other one is VMware Hypervisor."
"The scalability is good. It can scale. Adding a new server to a foreign location is easy."
"I can choose a point in time and issue the command to back up and I don't need to go in and restore the last full backup and then apply iteratively, sequentially, all the incrementals... I can pick a point in time and tell it I want to go to that state and it's transparent to me. It happens in the background for me."
"Vembu helps me deliver an enterprise-level data protection solution and reduce budgets."
"The initial setup is easy and very nice."
"Technical support gets an A-plus."
"Moving to cloud backups eliminated the need for clients to change USB drives or worry about drives being stored offsite."
"Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots."
"RecoverPoint replicates workloads fast."
"The workload can be moved directly if the disaster site is the main site."
"When it comes to disaster recovery, this is one of the best solutions there is for EMC products."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to change IP addresses when failing a server over."
"Overall the product is really good."
"It is a very simple tool to use and offers flexibility in using the tool for recovery and transitioning from one state to another."
"The most valuable features are the data center recovery administration and the time of recovery."

Cons

"In the beginning, when we had some hiccups, I would chalk that up more to a learning curve for the product."
"I don't know if it exists, but it would be helpful to get email notifications when there are issues with the backup. I'm sure it probably exists, but I just don't know how to do it. They also have an Azure proxy feature where you can restore to Azure. It's not really well documented. I think they should document how to do that a little better."
"Our initial experience with BDRSuite highlighted the need for improved user onboarding materials."
"I have seen that the BDRSuite user interface can be less intuitive and more challenging to navigate compared to other similar products."
"I have not been impressed by the data compression of the backup images. They seem to take up nearly as much space on the backup drive as they do on the server."
"The pricing could have been cheaper."
"There's a feature that does syncing with AWS Cloud backup online. It's not that straightforward to get it set up."
"With the new VMware licensing issues and price concerns, we are switching to the backup from within the virtual machine. This gives us fewer options, but it is necessary."
"In the next release of this software, I would like to see options that help to decrease the bandwidth required, such as compressing the data."
"The solution currently supports only VMware."
"The price of this product could be lower."
"In some cases, the response times could improve, but we haven't had issues with their support."
"It should have features for recovering a group of virtual machines and full-scale security. For recovering all the VMs at once, they don't have a GUI option, and we have to use the command line."
"Although we can change the IP address, it would be good to have some other sort of orchestration to make life easier to manage when we failover."
"I would like to have the HTML 5 interface working because it is currently not functioning with the VMware environment."
"It would be good to have a critical application on the customer side."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"At the moment, I am doing Vembu for one host. My costs are about $25 USD a month for a single host up to 100 VMs."
"The licensing model is quite complicated; it's not simple. An example: If you have a physical server, you have to pay more for that license than you do for a host. It could be running several VMs and that could be a server VM as well. Then, for web station machines, there is no license for those machines and they have no desktop OS - the free version has all this functionality. Their license model needs to be looked at and simplified."
"The price for BDRSuite is justified."
"It is very cost efficient, effective. I’d say it's one-third the cost of Veritas when compared to the server backups. I even tried image backups on Acronis, but Acronis is very expensive. So these are some of the key reasons why I opted for it."
"Its price is reasonable as compared to other solutions. There are no additional costs. While increasing the count on the server-side, we have to take care of managing or optimizing the license."
"The pricing is good. The tough part is estimating storage needs."
"The price point of this software is good, and I can do everything I need. In terms of the affordability of the solution for businesses with a tight budget, we're on a small business enterprise package, which is half the price of the regular enterprise package. It's super affordable. The features you get for it are enterprise-level. I'm very happy with the pricing."
"The pricing is reasonable. I am okay with it."
"The tool is expensive. If one means cheaply priced and ten means expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven."
"Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
"It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."
"This is an expensive product."
"There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
"This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
