Offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites
It offers key features like any point-in-time recovery without needing scheduled snapshots. It allows for automated VM protection during processes like failover and testing, and it offers replication flexibility across multiple environments, including local centers and secondary sites. It also provides IP address management when network configurations differ across sites.

Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"Overall the product is really good."
"I use RecoverPoint for VM for my production-critical system because it gives you general electives for the journals and the point-in-time recovery."
"One of the standout features of Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is its real-time data protection capability."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to change IP addresses when failing a server over."
"It is a very simple tool to use and offers flexibility in using the tool for recovery and transitioning from one state to another."
"One person can do the whole implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the solution."
"The generalization of the journals allows us to go back in time and choose the snapshot suitable for us. We can grab it as needed."
"The most valuable features are the data center recovery administration and the time of recovery."
"The first benefit was being able to sleep better at night knowing that we can recover instantly."
"I've used backup solutions like Veeam in the past, but Zerto seemed like a better, faster solution. We adopted Zerto because of the speed, and because we wanted to do everything in-house."
"The instant recovery at DR locations is the most valuable feature. We're required to do periodic DR tests of critical databases, including Oracle and Microsoft SQL. We have recovery point objectives set for specific databases and we need to be able to achieve them. Zerto helps solve that business problem."
"Overall, the solution probably has saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars or maybe millions."
"There are two main things that I like. One is the fact that my recovery time is now much lower effectively. It is also very valuable that I can test it. There is a possibility to test that failover."
"HPE Zerto Software has helped reduce downtime in some situations."
"The most valuable feature is the rollback feature that captures every couple of minutes. Whenever we have a server that goes down, we can use that to pull it back a couple of minutes before and it's good to go."
"We now have the ability to replicate critical data to a secure, off-site location that can be brought back in seconds if needed."

Cons

"Their L1 support is not so good as of now. They have recently outsourced to a company, and they are not doing good."
"The solution's technical team has enough skills, but the process can get complicated with the time you get connected with the L3 support."
"There is a problem with the solution's architecture. First of all, it requires double the resources on the virtual environment to set up one environment."
"The price of this product could be lower."
"The biggest challenge we faced was attempting replication between two different kinds of storage systems, like IBM on one side and Dell EMC storage systems on the other, before opting for VPLEX."
"Although we can change the IP address, it would be good to have some other sort of orchestration to make life easier to manage when we failover."
"Maybe integration with Kubernetes for OpenShift would be helpful."
"The configuration process seems a bit challenging, and the installation takes a bit longer than expected."
"We have had some issues with trying to get certain parts of the backup or restore functionality to work."
"Zerto is not an API-first company, but an API-now company. A lot of the functionality that is in Zerto UI is not in the Zerto API."
"Near-synchronous replication has some trade-offs."
"If we could integrate our AIOps solutions and incident management capabilities within HPE Zerto Software, that would be beneficial."
"Its price is a little bit on the higher side."
"Their support team didn’t have all the answers, and some of the cases took far too long to address, especially on critical systems that needed to be operational for our DR events."
"It is difficult to manage failing over between sites if you are at the site that was impacted."
"The backup capabilities require too much disk space and I would like to see better compression or deduplication built in to reduce the amount of WAN traffic."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an expensive product."
"There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
"The tool is expensive. If one means cheaply priced and ten means expensive, I rate the tool's price as a seven."
"It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."
"Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
"This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
"Having backup and DR is somewhat moderately important to us. The problem with us, and a lot of companies, is the issue with on-prem Zerto. It utilizes whatever you have for a SAN. Or, if you are like us, we have a vSAN and that storage is not cheap. So, it is cheaper to have a self-contained backup system that is on its own storage rather than utilizing your data center storage, like your vSAN. While it is somewhat important to have both backup and DR, it is not incredibly important to have both. I know Zero is trying to heavily dip their toes in the water of backup and recovery. Once you see what Zerto can do, I don't think anyone will not take Zerto because they don't necessarily specialize in backup and recovery 100 percent. They do replication so well."
"Zerto is very cost-effective. We get really great value for the cost of the service."
"This solution is far less expensive than SRM and NetBackup."
"It was a little bit expensive. It took a long time for us to get DR for our workstations. It's one thing when you have 15 servers, but when we needed to bring on almost another 200 users, and each was the same price as the servers, it was too expensive. But Zerto worked with us and gave us a solution that was pretty decent in terms of price."
"Zerto is not cheap but is an invaluable asset."
"It is less expensive than the full solution that we had previously, but at the same time, it's not an inexpensive product either."
"We paid a big investment upfront with renewal fees each year."
"The product's pricing is the one area where it is less competitive."
