Ease of backup and restore improves data management with reliable support

The interface of BDRSuite Backup & Replication is pretty intuitive. Regarding their marketing strategy, I'm very bad at marketing. I always get a little edgy when people try to shove their product in my face. There are two sides to the story. If you don't know something exists, you might not even start to look for it unless you really know that you need it. If you are explicitly looking for a solution, then you'll find it. People that don't know that they should do backup don't have a place in IT. I rate BDRSuite Backup & Replication 8.5 out of 10.

Integrated backups and orchestration have protected critical workloads with zero downtime

Pricing is always a consideration because nowadays the price has increased a lot. We bought our system five years ago and we paid in advance, so we are not yet affected by the price increase. However, we are planning to buy another solution in the very near future because the old one is now phasing out. We are planning to buy a replacement of the existing infrastructure and we are facing a lot of cost issues because they increased the price. Previously it was per socket. Now they moved to per core with many other restrictions. Our experience over the last five years has been very positive, but nowadays we find that Nutanix support is degraded. They started reducing their support. Their new functionality is not as stable. Nutanix has added Kubernetes cluster creation, segmentation, and micro-segmentation. Even their support people are not fully knowledgeable. Their support people are trained for VM-based systems, but now their own internal services are running using Kubernetes and containerization. Their support staff does not have enough knowledge to provide proper support. This may be a transition period where a lot of new functionality has been added and the support staff is not yet well acquainted with it.

"I am able to run Vembu on Windows NAS, which is beneficial. It does install on a Windows-based NAS. You can have the server running from the location where you are storing backups. You don't need a separate server for it in this case."

Partial restore is very important because there might be some files which are newer than the backup and some files that are corrupted. You need to restore some files from the backup, but not all the files."

"The most important feature, in terms of the hypervisor, is the ability to restore a virtual machine in a matter of minutes. We can take the backup of a virtual machine and we can restore it to the actual Vembu Backup server as a temporary solution, in a matter of minutes. We can just spin up a VM in no time; different hardware, even different processors. It's pretty dynamic in that sense."

"BDRSuite is better than competing solutions because it can protect, back up, and recover data. A feature called live migration allows you to recover the same data in different environments. For example, I can back up the data from a VMware machine and restore it to a Hyper-V."

"When they changed to the newest version (4.1), they have more VMs allowed on the free version. Before, there were only three VMs allowed on the free version, and if you needed to back up more than three VMs, you had to get the paid version. Now, you can have up to 10 VMs on the free version."

"With the free version of Vembu, you receive three virtual machine backups. However, if you buy the NetworkBackup Enterprise version, you don't have access to the features seen in the free version. This is a situation that Vembu should solve. This caused a misunderstanding between sales and us. I was hoping if I buy the licenses, then after the trial I would not have to purchase virtual machine licenses. Maybe they should offer these three virtual machine backups as part of the Enterprise license."
