Integrated backups and orchestration have protected critical workloads with zero downtime
Pricing is always a consideration because nowadays the price has increased a lot. We bought our system five years ago and we paid in advance, so we are not yet affected by the price increase. However, we are planning to buy another solution in the very near future because the old one is now phasing out. We are planning to buy a replacement of the existing infrastructure and we are facing a lot of cost issues because they increased the price. Previously it was per socket. Now they moved to per core with many other restrictions. Our experience over the last five years has been very positive, but nowadays we find that Nutanix support is degraded. They started reducing their support. Their new functionality is not as stable. Nutanix has added Kubernetes cluster creation, segmentation, and micro-segmentation. Even their support people are not fully knowledgeable. Their support people are trained for VM-based systems, but now their own internal services are running using Kubernetes and containerization. Their support staff does not have enough knowledge to provide proper support. This may be a transition period where a lot of new functionality has been added and the support staff is not yet well acquainted with it.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

"The product is very simple and very easy to use."
"Nutanix Disaster Recovery needs to have a feature that can automate manual tasks."
"The initial setup of Nutanix Disaster Recovery is straightforward and easy."
"The most valuable feature of Nutanix Disaster Recovery is the local storage solution, which significantly boosts performance, especially when transitioning from traditional architecture."
"The main benefits I've seen from using Nutanix Disaster Recovery include its single platform, which is significantly better than VMware, offering improved security, scalability, and multiple communication options."
"For the last five years, we have had zero downtime."
"I like the tool's backup."
"We moved our entire data center, from one physical location to another, mind you we are 24 hour operation with sites across the state relying on the systems being up, and we never lost one hour of downtime."
"Once you get it set up, everything is smooth, and the recovery is excellent."
"We were looking for a solution for a long time to replicate a very old database running on a VM, and finally, using this product, we are able to do it."
"If most, or all, of your environment is based on virtual machines and you want something that is simple to install, configure and manage but above all else, something that backs up and restores your data successfully then Veeam is your product."
"With a proper configuration of this product we were able to restore the Hyper-V Infrastructure to our 2nd Data Center and restore functionality to about 20 Hospitals and Imaging centers around the state of Ohio."
"Nearly all of Veeam's features are beneficial, particularly standard backup functionalities, application-specific backup capabilities, and the ability to create backups in Azure and our data center for disaster recovery purposes."
"The most valuable feature is the continuous backup."

Cons

"The product must allow users to create a production domain on the main site in one hypervisor and a backup site on another."
"The solution should include a standard license for the object level and file level."
"The major issue with Nutanix is its appliance-based model, which can lead to vendor lock-in."
"Nutanix Disaster Recovery needs to have a feature that can automate manual tasks."
"Nowadays we find that Nutanix support is degraded. They started reducing their support."
"The dashboard could be a bit refreshed, and some configuration parts could be less confusing."

"There are some features that are lacking compared to other backup solutions, specifically around the use of tape libraries, and this is the largest area for improvement."
"My biggest issue with Veeam at the moment is how the backup reports are displayed. We use the SolarWinds integration to generate consolidated reports for monitoring purposes, but we aren't getting all the available data shown to us in the way that we want."
"Veeam ONE should make available notifications through SMS."
"The backup and integration could be improved."
"I do have a need ever so small to have the ability to backup physical servers, this is not something Veeam offers."
"The patching can be quite difficult at times."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Nutanix Disaster Recovery is a cheap solution."
"The solution’s pricing is good."
"The pricing is good and affordable."
"The price is slightly higher than its competitors."
"Our licensing fees are paid yearly and the cost is about $12,000 Swiss Francs ($17,400 USD)."
"The price is quite fair."
"If you have Exchange, Oracle, SQL, or a supported SAN, then I suggest getting at least an Enterprise edition. It’ll pay for itself in no time."
"They have a free edition that can back up up to 10 VMs or physical servers. Small and medium businesses can use this edition until they can afford to get a license, and after they get a license, they just activate it on the same console. That's the amazing thing about it."
"Veeam Backup Replication has a lot of free features. We have a mixture of the paid versions as well as the community version. They are really helpful to us."
"We have increased our scalability while being able to free up senior resources from recovery activities. I estimate our overall savings to about $20,000 per year."
