Collaborating on code has become smoother while pricing and hosting options still need work
Bitbucket needs improvement as it has very limited cloud hosting options. With Atlassian phasing out its self-hosted server version, organizations are forced to choose between Bitbucket Cloud, which may not meet strict local compliance requirements, or a highly expensive data option. Additionally, Bitbucket is not competitive on pricing for scaling teams, as the free tier is great for up to five team members, but the jump in price for growing teams beyond five users can become steep compared to other repositories. Some enterprise users report that Bitbucket's stability can affect its speed when handling very large repositories, and though it has good support, the technical support team should be more active, as I have not seen them as active compared to GitLab and GitHub. The limited cloud hosting options and pricing for scaling teams are two important areas for improvement.

A powerful and mature solution that helps to collaborate and eliminate issues with code
Some challenges arise when Git is not used correctly, particularly in managing branches. It's easy to get lost, but these challenges can be overcome with proper management. A common advice is maintaining the repository and ensuring developers are in sync with the production branch. Branches should be promptly merged into development to avoid getting lost in many branches.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"You can use Bitbucket to whitelist IP addresses during deployment."
"Bitbucket has a very great impact on my organization, as all code, whether from backend, frontend, or PWA, is now in Bitbucket, facilitating collaboration among our large team on the same codebase."
"But the tool has good capabilities and very good features not explored by many other Git based version controlling tools like GitLab or GitHub."
"The code reviews and the ability to support DevSecOps are very important."
"It has a nice user experience to review PRs and provides great pipeline features, integrating well with other Atlassian products."
"Bitbucket is a standard git implementation with perfectly coordinated screens, it's secure, and we have had no problems with it."
"This is a very dependable product that is easy to use and it has an excellent GUI interface."
"Bitbucket works fine for what I'm doing, it's slightly different from GitHub, but it's a good tool for storing code."
"The initial setup is very easy."
"Code versioning, for example, we work in the branch and want to come back to this branch another time.Git is a very useful tool, helpful to collaborate with other members in the group to finish more rapidly our work."
"The repository management and check-in/check-out commands are the most valuable features for ensuring secure code."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten...Since I am a very simple user of the tool, its scalability is good for me."
"Git is a product everyone uses, so it's almost inescapable. I like the fact that there is a large ecosystem around it. You can bolt various graphical user interfaces onto it or sign up for various repositories like GitHub and AWS CodeCommit. Git has a large community, so there are lots of resources and knowledge bases you can use."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the branch management functionality."
"The most valuable feature of Git is the ease of tracking in time what the snapshot of the code was at a particular moment. The versioning is good."
"The implementation is easy."

Cons

"I would like to see the security logs option on the tool directly. The current way to work with security logs is through an email protocol."
"Bitbucket's stability isn't flawless. It has crashed on me occasionally, but I haven't yet lost anything after a crash."
"The product could be less expensive for small companies."
"I rate the support from Bitbucket a four out of five."
"Bitbucket's Initial setup is a little complicated because you need to install and configure the solution. It can take one or two days to deploy Bitbucket. If you have a high workload, you can deploy it on multiple server farms as needed"
"Another thing, the time it takes for the repository to get downloaded and be available increases if you are using the cloud version."
"One of the areas the solution could improve on is when there is a merging conflict it is quite confusing."
"Currently, what's lacking in Bitbucket is the assignment feature."
"Synchronization could be better. Sometimes when you create a branch and merge it into another branch, I think it's a bit complex for no reason. The initial setup is also tricky when you do it for the first time."
"If other people are included in their project, you're going to have to make merge requests to merge the code you made, and the code your colleagues have made. So it's a little bit complicated."
"We would like to see tutorials added to the product, for new users to follow so that they can optimize their use of the solution."
"More security is always welcome in my opinion."
"The main problem for me is the frequent upgrades in the solution because every other upgrade is a minefield. When you do the upgrade, there is always something that doesn't work."
"Git can improve the size of the depository it can handle and add the capability to detect the change between common files, such as Excel and PDF documents."
"The GUI needs to be improved."
"I would like to see an improvement in the way the product owner can review changes."
