OutSystems facilitates rapid application development and effective project management
What I find valuable about OutSystems is that it has a very good learning curve for developers. Within two weeks, we can gain knowledge in OutSystems, and it is very easy to learn. With my background being .NET, OutSystems is straightforward to learn, which is beneficial. Developing applications in OutSystems is good, and the flexibility allowed by OutSystems for application development is excellent compared to my experiences with other low-code technologies, where I've faced some challenges. The clean separation of concerns in the architecture provided by OutSystems is a key benefit compared to other platforms. OutSystems integrates with our existing tech infrastructure and provides flexible integration. If we want to integrate with third-party services, OutSystems has SOAP and RESTful services that allow us to consume external services, integrate with external databases such as SQL or Oracle, and includes integration studio for writing custom .NET code. After developing a .NET component, we can reference it in service studio, creating a reference file that makes integration easy. OutSystems officially supports various integrations and also includes an API discovery tool for consuming and exposing services, providing a lot of information about incoming URLs, similar to how we use Postman.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Key features include security, decreased development time, responsiveness, cross-platform."
"OutSystems' low-cost approach has positively impacted our productivity, because we were able to develop faster with OutSystems, enabling us to implement many changes during our sprint."
"I like the mobile features the most, and there are also various features around the portal we created that I enjoy."
"I find it to be a genuinely cool and effective platform for my development needs."
"Our previous solution had other overheads such as release management, version management, code management, monitoring, etc., all of which are built-in with OutSystems."
"The scalability of OutSystems is very good, it scales automatically very useful for us."
"It is very stable."
"The most valuable feature of OutSystems with discipline and the development processes. Instead of each developer doing tasks on their own with their own approach, et cetera, the solution would help bring some organization to the development process."
"Their out-of-the-box UI is quite good."

Cons

"There is a need for API-based development which offers completely customized functionality."
"Mobile apps should have been fully native."
"The tutorials for the solution should be updated."
"The dashboards in OutSystems could improve. There are a lot of tabs in the service center that can be confusing."
"There are not enough resources on the market."
"We have performance issues while fetching bulk data."
"There are many tutorials available but they are very basic and good for learning the platform. To develop an enterprise-grade application, advanced tutorials need to be developed to help IT professionals design/develop high-quality/performance applications."
"OutSystems does not provide any native reporting resources. All reports must be created with other tools or as a webpage."
"I like the OutSystems platform. I am working on integrating it with another platform using APIs, however, it has proven to be difficult. The main issue I am facing is obtaining authorization tokens as well as access and refresh tokens. It may be due to my lack of knowledge of APIs as it is new to me."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"As for licensing costs, I'm not directly involved in that aspect."
"Pricing could be a concern. You have to pay yearly, even after you have completed your development."
"It is still very expensive, so small companies can’t generally afford it... Still, the time saving on development and delivery is worth the value."
"It's not cheap. It's pretty expensive."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to OutSystems. It is an expensive product."
"The solution is expensive. The platform is not suitable for all of my clients. I work with labor unions and other smaller organizations that would not be able to afford the platform's current pricing model. It would be beneficial if there were a scaled-down version or a tiered pricing option that would allow me to build an app or a web app that is more cost-effective for my clients. Currently, the platform's pricing is too high for many of my clients, who would not be able to afford something in the $50,000 to $100,000 range."
"There is a free trial to use this solution and other options available, such as enterprise. There are different subscription plans."
"The solution is expensive."
