Has provided secure remote access for years but inconsistent support delays resolution
Regarding logging and management, while some of the logging is really good, other times it's not so great, and we've had to reach out to Check Point a few times for assistance, and the support we've gained hasn't been up to par with what Check Point usually offers as part of their support. When it comes to improvements, not specifically the remote access VPN, but the support associated with Check Point products has fallen over the last two years, and the response time is much worse, with the first layer of support lacking sufficient knowledge on how to troubleshoot issues.

Security enhances through autonomous protection and strong support while multi-factor authentication secures access
I haven't utilized the high availability and scalability features of SonicWall SMA yet because I've never had a need to. I don't know where they can focus their energy on continuous improvements, as I haven't been looking at what they're releasing. We're a small shop, so we drop stuff in and manage it and do what we need to do to maintain it. If we run into an issue, we contact support. There's a learning curve, but it comes down to getting support to train you on the product, and then once you have the training you need, you're able to make the changes and updates that you need to.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product's initial setup phase was easy."
"It operates effectively, particularly during challenges like adversities or infrastructure issues."
"The VPN hides your IP address and encrypts your online traffic and it essentially ensures that your fingerprints cannot be traced on the Internet."
"Currently, Check Point is an ally that we have used within our organization to protect the perimeter area, the equipment, and other technologies."
"It can improve an organization by providing secure access to resources for traveling employees, which can help to reduce the risk of data breaches or other security incidents."
"The best feature of Check Point Remote Access VPN is the control during the connectivity—whenever I connect to my organization's network, my PC is always connected to the private network, even whenever I connect to the internet."
"The biggest advantage of Check Point Remote Access VPN is that we already use the Check Point firewall. We only needed to enable the feature and do the configuration in order to enable the VPN feature. We didn't need to buy or manage new hardware."
"Check Point Remote Access VPN has positively impacted our organization by enabling employees to securely access internal systems from anywhere, which has reduced downtime and made it easier to stay connected while traveling or working from home."
"I think they ask for a fair price."
"The performance is good."
"SonicWall SMA allows us to provide CML-based access to any user."
"What I like best about SonicWall SMA is the relationship between its features and its price, because the solution is both affordable and functional."
"This solution has many options for remote desktop and access."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is they have IT consultants that know SonicWall."
"The solution is reliable and has good overall performance."
"It is faster than other security options when using remote connections."

Cons

"The remote workers were experiencing issues like disconections, no IP avaliables from the DHCP, or unable to connect because the server didnt responde to a ping, however this issue was fix after we instlalled the JHF 125 on each gateway and after the upgrade, everythig has been working OK, but before that Check Point didn´t have a fix for that manner."
"We have noted some stability issues."
"In an environment with multiple cluster checkpoints, the global properties common to all clusters in some cases give problems."
"Connection of devices from various locations is efficient though there are a few challenges when there is a network failure."
"Price category and smooth renewal of agreement should be considered for flawless and quick onboarding of clients and partners."
"The SSL VPN needs a Java applet to be installed and it is also dependent on the latest version of Java."
"They need to increase their timeout. Right now, it will fail after ten seconds, however, it shouldn't fail until after 20 seconds."
"For Linux machines, they don't have a full client to install. For the users that utilize Linux, there needs to be an equivalent."
"SonicWall's reporting isn't good. Reports should be part of a data plan. The login mechanism should be improved. It would be helpful if the client could use an agent to log in. An agent-server model would improve the performance of the RDB, which consumes a lot of bandwidth."
"Enhancing live tracking capabilities could improve the product, particularly in monitoring user activity and request statuses in real-time on the web interface."
"This is an expensive solution and I think that the price could be improved."
"SonicWall's reporting isn't good. Reports should be part of a data plan."
"The problem is that when combined with what the client already has, there are two different logins and two different management systems, and these should be consolidated into a single interface."

"There are some features that are available on Palo Alto or Cisco that don't exist. The solution could integrate better with other platforms."
"The user interface could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a license required for this solution."
"Check Point Remote Access VPN is not expensive and the cost is annual."
"Organizations that already have the Check Point NGFW need to purchase an additional license to have access to the VPN functionality."
"The solution is pretty expensive. The rating is an eight."
"The product is expensive. I rate its pricing a ten out of ten. For the cost of one product, we could purchase two or three Fortinet solutions with the same amount of money."
"My understanding is that the pricing and licensing are very competitive, and it's not one of their more expensive products. We buy licenses for the solution and have licenses for the endpoint servers."
"My company makes yearly payments only towards the licensing costs attached to Check Point Remote Access VPN, as there are no extra costs attached to the product."
"The price of this product is good."
"The cost of the licensing is based on the maximum number of concurrent users, and it costs a lot to add them."
"All the costs are included in a bundled license."
"The platform has medium pricing."
"This solution is priced well and we currently have the maximum number of licenses allowed."
"I don't know about the pricing of the SSL-VPN box. I know the SSL-VPN software is free. Global VPN client, by comparison, is licensed for around $150 or something like that. But the SSL-VPN software is free. It is already built-in with the box."
"Our licenses are stackable and can be anywhere from five users to a million users."
