Optimizing user experience through comprehensive monitoring and real-time analytics
Citrix uberAgent Monitoring helps us optimize the end-user experience. It identifies slow applications, system bottlenecks, and offers network and latency analytics to detect network congestion and connection issues. It enhances the security of Citrix environments by providing valuable security insights. It integrates well with Splunk and Elastic Stack to provide real-time analytics. Additionally, it is useful for tracking Citrix log-ons and determining where delays are happening.

Datadog needs to introduce more hard limits to cost. If we see a huge log spike, administrators should have more control over what happens to save costs. If a service starts logging extensively, I want the ability to automatically direct that log into the cheapest log bucket. This should be the case with many offerings. If we're seeing too much APM, we need to be aware of it and able to stop it rather than having administrators reach out to specific teams. Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work. More resources need to go into Fleet Automation because we face many problems with things such as the Ansible role to install Datadog in non-containerized hosts. We mainly want to see performance improvements, less time spent looking at costs, the ability to trust that costs will stay reasonable, and an easier way to manage our agents. It is such a powerful tool with much potential on the horizon, but cost control, performance, and agent management need improvement. The main issues are with the administrative side rather than the actual application.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Citrix uberAgent Monitoring helps us optimize the end-user experience."
"The pricing model makes more sense than what we paid for against other competitors."
"The feature I have found to be the most valuable is the filtering feature in logs."
"The ease of use allowed me to get up to speed with log management since it's my first time using Datadog."
"Log analytics give us a powerful mechanism for error tracking, research, and analysis."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is the APM."
"The fact that everything is under a single pane of glass is really valuable, as developers don't have to spend their time copying correlation IDs across tools to find what they need."
"The tool's deployment is easy."
"Real user monitoring has made triaging any possible bugs our users might face a lot easier."

Cons

"Citrix uberAgent Monitoring currently does not have its own database and requires dependency on products like Splunk or Elastic Stack for visualization."
"In production, we intend to use trace IDs generated by RUM to attach to support tickets when a user experiences a traceable network error, and we want to display this trace ID to the user so if they were to contact us about a specific issue, they can provide us an exact ID displayed to them back to us. Currently, this is not possible out-of-the-box client-side without inventing our own solution for capturing these trace IDs, such as shimming the native fetch or returning the ID from the service response."
"The cost is high and this can be justified if the scale of the environment is big. Datadog needs to provide better pricing for large customers."
"I'm still exploring the trial version, and it is fine. One thing that I haven't been able to figure out is how to retrieve a report. This is something that could be improved. I probably need to navigate to a place to access the reports."
"The solution should provide alerts for cloud outages that would allow us to report potential service impacts directly to applications or on the dashboard."
"More granular control over dashboard sharing. Timeboard sharing."
"As a new customer, the Datadog user interface is a bit daunting."
"They could have better log reporting."
"Logging is not a great experience."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Pricing and licensing are reasonable for what they give you. You get the first five hosts free, which is fun to play around with. Then it's about four dollars a month per host, which is very affordable for what you get out of it. We have a lot of hosts that we put a lot of custom metrics into, and every host gives you an allowance for the number of custom metrics."
"They prefer monthly subscriptions."
"Pricing seemed easy until the bill came in and some things were not accounted for."
"At my last company, we did see ROI, specifically around response time. We could get to mission critical things that were down and losing revenue on immediately. So, the product paid itself back."
"The solution is fairly priced but history and log storage can get costly depending on your needs."
"It has always scaled for us. Cost scales up too, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. It's reasonable for what they're providing."
"While it is an expensive product, I would rate the pricing level at four out of five."
"It has a module-based pricing model."
