Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Streamlined data management reduces workload and costs significantly for the team
We are planning to use Rubrik Go's AI-powered insights for predictive analytics, but have not implemented this yet. I cannot provide updates on Rubrik Go's capability to automate data management tasks because I have not used that feature yet. Rubrik Go's integration capabilities with cloud providers have benefited my multi-cloud environment significantly. Rubrik Go's subscription model has helped me align my data protection investments, which is a good option as I am one of the customers who have deployed this subscription option. I am definitely satisfied with the licensing model as it is very simplified and easy to understand. On a scale of 1-10, I rate Rubrik Go a 9.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution's interface is easy to use. For manageability, it doesn't matter where the resource is coming from or going to. That's the great power of the Control Panel: It's easy to use and does not matter if you manage on-prem or cloud resources."
"The solution has enabled us to save on infrastructure costs by being able to manage what were disparate data management solutions in one place."
"Commvault makes it easier to back up new additions to our environment."
"The most valuable feature of Commvault HyperScale X is the automatic nature of its operation. We don't need to worry about sets of documents. It worked automatically, we don't need to think about it. When you set the solution up in a good way, you don't need to worry."
"With Commvault, we run a single job as a one-pass job, it will run backup and archive in a single job, no need to run two jobs for backup and archive them differently."
"The solution provides us with a single platform to move, manage, and recover our data across on-premise locations. Some of the guys have been using it to move a virtual machine from VMware to the Microsoft solution, Hyper-V. They back it up and then they restore to the different virtual machine provider, and that works great."
"There are many valuable features of Commvault HyperScale X giving many possibilities to complete jobs, particularly with the backup and restore."
"With Commvault, we provided trusted environment to our customer and increased our incomes with new customers."
"In terms of stability, the product is good."
"The most valuable feature with Rubrik is that even though the data is already in the cloud, it's an AWS, so by accessing the on-prem appliance you can still search because it is indexed from that appliance."
"The solution's main focus is on security and ransomware."
"Rubrik Go is very simple to use."
"The solution is easy to install; our team just has to put together the plan, give it to IT and let them handle it. Other solutions are quite complex, but this is much simpler."
"I think Rubrik Go is pretty good overall."
"Rubrik Go is both very scalable and stable."
"The most valuable feature is the storage efficiency, as the storage footprint is very good."

Cons

"The stability of the tool could be improved."
"I need documentation for Azure backups. One expectation that I have is regarding PDF documentation. When I was trying to browse the documentation, I could not locate that."
"The new HTML5-based management portals are very nice, but do not yet have all of the features of the Java-based client."
"HyperScale X is not user-friendly. There are many settings that have to be done on your own."
"The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do."
"I would like to see more customizable reports. I have reports going right now, but the daily report, for example, shows something like 40 jobs that ran when there are just a few endpoints on there. I'd like to just know if the endpoint was successfully backed up, not how many times. More customizable reports would be nice to have."
"The setup is not that straightforward or easy. Even the documentation is not generic or public like other products. You have to be a partner or you have to have a specific account and download it from the vendor themselves."
"Commvault is a rich system that might scare somebody the first time they see it because it feels so huge."
"The AWS backups could be improved."
"There have been occasional issues with the user interface needing certain necessary information, requiring us to contact support for clarification."
"Technical support isn't that good, especially if you compare it to a competitor like EMC."
"There should be an option to generate reports in PDF format, rather than only in Excel or CSV format."
"You should be able to add more workloads to Rubrik Go."
"Being a modern backup solution, Rubrik should have an option to back up a Kubernetes cluster."
"If you're going for Rubrik, you are not opting for the tape library because Rubrik doesn't have the fiber cable connected to the tape library."
"One of the issues with the product is that you cannot postpone a specific backup job. If you try to do that, every backup job is paused."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have checked some other products, but we are not testing them because price-wise, Commvault is better than the other solutions."
"The product is cheap."
"Using a subscription-based license has been advantageous."
"We like that there is no extra cost for SharePoint, Teams, or OneDrive. It is all mimicking Microsoft's model. Every user has one terabyte of space. When users start using OneDrive, everybody has one terabyte that will be backed up included in the price."
"You have to pay for the licenses and the hardware you need for the Commvault environment. If you don't have all the hardware, you have to buy it, which can cost a few million. In the end, it's vital to protect our data, so the price isn't an issue."
"I would rate the price of Commvault Cloud seven out of ten with ten being the cheapest."
"Its cost is reasonable, but anybody else can do better benchmarking."
"The solution is worth the money."
"It's an expensive product if you compare it to traditional backup solutions; however, if you compare it as a total cost of ownership for a solution, it is not."
"Rubrick Go is quite expensive - I would rate its pricing four out of ten."
"This is a very costly solution."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing a three out of ten."
"Rubrik Go is more cost-effective than similar solutions by other vendors."
"I would rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten. The solution's costs are monthly."
"The solution is reasonably priced."
"The client pays for the solution depending on what they use."
