Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Streamlined data management reduces workload and costs significantly for the team
We are planning to use Rubrik Go's AI-powered insights for predictive analytics, but have not implemented this yet. I cannot provide updates on Rubrik Go's capability to automate data management tasks because I have not used that feature yet. Rubrik Go's integration capabilities with cloud providers have benefited my multi-cloud environment significantly. Rubrik Go's subscription model has helped me align my data protection investments, which is a good option as I am one of the customers who have deployed this subscription option. I am definitely satisfied with the licensing model as it is very simplified and easy to understand. On a scale of 1-10, I rate Rubrik Go a 9.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"HyperScale X is really user-friendly and has a lot of features, and it's also cheaper, faster, and more stable than its competitors."
"The beauty of this solution is that it includes two disk libraries therefore backing up to tape will often not be required, unless very long term retention is needed and even then it is likely to be very infrequent."
"The user interface is very easy to navigate, the interface itself is very simple, and overall it is doing the job we need it to do while supporting all types of backup systems quite easily."
"The solution is very stable and offers a good level of performance."
"This product has allowed us to recover data when we've had issues."
"The diversity on offer is very, very good. Everything is supported. It's great."
"The most important feature is that everything can be controlled using a single console."
"Commvault is both very stable and scalable."
"The solution's main focus is on security and ransomware."
"Rubrik Go is very simple to use."
"This product has positively impacted my organization because in the legacy tool, we used to have significant workload and significant people to be deployed, in this case, we have very minimal requirements."
"The most valuable feature is that it is a hyper-converged backup appliance with everything in one box and has an easy-to-use interface that is not complicated."
"In terms of Rubrik Go's most valuable features, their VM features are good."
"The standout feature is its ransomware protection capabilities."
"The most valuable feature with Rubrik is that even though the data is already in the cloud, it's an AWS, so by accessing the on-prem appliance you can still search because it is indexed from that appliance."
"The solution's most valuable feature is Sensitive Data Discovery."

Cons

"We do not use Command Center, but we are using CommCell Console. We're navigating and manipulating the entire environment by using CommCell Console, and we are comfortable with it. We didn't find Command Center user-friendly. We found it a bit difficult to use. It decreases the efficiency of the tasks to be performed. It was probably implemented as a centralized application to manage all environments, but it was probably not a good idea. I and my colleagues across the globe are comfortable with using CommCell Console rather than Command Center."
"I think there is room for improvement with the reports. They are a little poor."
"The price could be lower."
"I would like more communication informing us on what Commvault is doing in the background."
"What I need is deeper CLI documentation for both QCommand and SQL queries."
"The interface could be improved because it has two different consoles."
"Getting my guys the right access has a learning curve. Sometimes, it is, "Oh, okay. I think I got it for you." Then, they say, "Oh, nope. I logged in but I can't see this." Then, it is, "Okay, hold on. Give me a second. Let me change that. Okay, it's this one." That learning curve has probably taken a little bit longer than some simpler things. So, Metallic has some granularity, and as a systems administrator, I appreciate that. At the same time, I also realize that I have to learn it."
"Endpoint backup."
"Rubrik Go could improve on the Kubernetes side; they should have more features for Kubernetes backup and orchestration."
"Integration with the client is something that needs to be improved."
"If you were to compare it to, say, EMC, the availability of the documentation, training programs, and end-user education aren't as good. Rubrik could improve this."
"I believe there's room for improvement in terms of support, particularly with Tier 3 support coming from the on-call team."
"You should be able to add more workloads to Rubrik Go."
"I would like to see better integration with applications, such as those from Microsoft, to make backing up from those applications simpler."
"Technical support isn't that good, especially if you compare it to a competitor like EMC."
"The tool's pricing needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is licensed based on the number of objects that we're going to back up, and that's a known quantity. As a result, we get predictable costs for our backup requirements."
"The tool is cost-effective."
"The solution is bundled with hardware licensing. If I want to increase the hardware, I have to buy exactly the same because it's based on the core hardware license. We cannot tell discount because we have an NDA signed with Commvault because of my academic license. The solution is more expensive than NetBackup and Veeam but cheaper than Rubrik."
"The solution is expensive, but it is worth the money."
"The product is cheap."
"We went from Veritas NetBackup to Commvault. We switched due to upfront licensing and costs. We have more visibility into what we're actually purchasing. It seemed like, overall, the cost of Commvault was cheaper."
"I would rate the price of Commvault Cloud seven out of ten with ten being the cheapest."
"I looked at this at the beginning of the year and I don't remember what the prices were for all the other services, but I thought that Metallic's was fair. It was also highly rated, which was even more important than cost because I need a reliable, secure, backup method."
"The client pays for the solution depending on what they use."
"The solution is reasonably priced."
"It's an expensive product if you compare it to traditional backup solutions; however, if you compare it as a total cost of ownership for a solution, it is not."
"I would rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten. The solution's costs are monthly."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing a three out of ten."
"Rubrick Go is quite expensive - I would rate its pricing four out of ten."
"This is a very costly solution."
"Rubrik Go is more cost-effective than similar solutions by other vendors."
