High availability and user-friendliness enhance infrastructure health and redundancy
I would rate technical support from DataCore SANsymphony a 10. Each time I contact the technical support, it's when I don't have a choice because it's very difficult for me on site, and each time, I have good people online who are able to help me solve the problem. Usually, the problems are not very technically difficult, but sometimes they are, and the support team is still there to help us resolve them. The majority of the problems are linked to licensing, so when the license has expired or the number is not correct, they are proactive and change things live, which is very good.

Crashed continuously, complex to deploy, and bad after-sales support - NETAPP FIXED the problems in 2022
Their after-sales support, SLA, and third-parties availability should be improved. NetApp's support is very difficult to engage. We have an SLA of onsite support within 24 hours. but they don't respect the SLA. Its stability was very bad. It has been crashing continuously. In one year, we got three crashes, which is unbelievable for an appliance that is guaranteed for 10 years without any crashes. In 2022, NetApp Italy, driven by the country manager Davide Marini, fixed all our issues and added additional computation power for free. This is a great example of customer care. They could have done it right the first time of course, but admitting the errors and putting in place such a remediation plan has been a very professional behavior.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This flexibility and scalability have helped our organization in practice because it is important for us as it decouples the storage management software from the physical hardware, creating a software layer of intelligence."
"The support is excellent."
"The bottom line is the software is what runs our applications on whatever storage vendor we choose - and it does so reliably."
"Good security with this solution."
"The platform's most valuable feature is its synchronous mirroring capability, which ensures bit-identical copies of data and offers excellent failover capacity."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its versatility, with there being support for all new hardware technologies and platforms, disc mirroring and very effective auto tiering."
"The features I have found most valuable are the active-active, or so-called grid technology, and the integration into our VMware-vCenter."
"I recommend taking a look at DataCore because it is a simple-to-use product that saved us from spending more money on additional hardware and support."
"HCI definitely improved how flexible we scale, and our entrance into the cloud."
"The solution has generally affected storage performance in our organization by adding a high-performance storage option into the environment."
"NetApp HCI is used for enterprise-scale hybrid cloud infrastructure and we are using the standard version."
"When you are doing lifecycles for your equipment, you can just swap out pieces of equipment. We used to do one big iron to another big iron, and that's a major migration hassle. Whereas, with this environment, you can go with small nodes, one at a time, and do a refresh."
"The solution integrates well with all the other applications that we use on our environment."
"Because NetApp usually marries capacity, performance, and upgrade planning together, there's not a whole lot that I need to worry about at this point."
"NetApp HCI has improved our organization by allowing us to put more time into investing in new ideas and spending less time in the administration of the solution."
"The initial setup was straightforward; it was easy and fast to deploy, and NetApp Cloud Manager made getting up and running with Cloud ONTAP amazing, easy to use, simple, and it basically did everything."

Cons

"The main problem is there is no DataCore OS."
"Problem detection could be easier. It should help customers identify problems very quickly because it's not easy to analyze on the platform today."
"SANsymphony is missing some features that vSAN has."
"I see some good competition to DataCore SANsymphony at the moment. I don't think DataCore SANsymphony is the best option on the market at the moment as they still could learn something from their competitors."
"DataCore SANsymphony should integrate file servers at a good price into the solution."
"I think an easier way to open a service call, right through the DataCore GUI, would be an improvement, especially when there is an urgent issue."
"It would be ideal if they were providing archive licensing with the ability to create a second pool on existing storage nodes."
"Pricing can be confounding with many options"
"I would like to see a better upgrade process, like the one that ONTAP has."
"There's a limitation with a block in the file. That's where I see that it's not very efficient for upgrades and for management."
"I would like to have the ability to replicate to multiple sites."
"They could improve the packaging."
"It would be great if they took something like kernel storage and integrated straight into the NetApp as well."
"There are some legacy applications which still cannot be migrated. That is why we have to keep two environments: legacy and the new one."
"Quality of Service (QoS) and capacity efficiency are the two things that I want to resolve in my customer's environment."
"I would like to see higher level graphics support because we are going to be doing some virtual desktop for our CAD software, and I want to be able to support AutoCAD and Cantillo on remote desktop machines."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This product has a good ratio between quality and price. In many cases, it's less expensive to work with DataCore than other storage systems."
"The cost is at the same level as other storage solutions and it is easy to understand the licensing."
"It is relatively expensive, and the additional costs for hardware and storage can make it a significant investment for customers."
"DataCore SANsymphony's pricing is very high and should be much cheaper."
"The solution is cost effective."
"We have licensing costs on a yearly basis. They charge per terabyte, so in terms of cost, it can be very costly. They have three different features, and you have to pay extra for those."
"This solution allows the use of off-the-shelf hardware and charges by the TB of storage."
"The pricing and licensing are better with DataCore."
"This solution reduced our maintenance costs. We were going to have to pay one to two million dollars to put in compute nodes. We are avoiding those costs."
"Its pricing is lower than our previous solution."
"Licenses run on a yearly basis, and there aren't any additional fees other than the standard licensing fee."
"The price of the solution is okay but could improve."
"This solution saved our organization time (35 percent) and money. We have a hefty group of developers, and if you multiply that by 30 to 35 percent, that is quite a bit of money."
"Its price is aligned with the market. In addition to the standard licensing fees, there is an integrator cost."
"Its price is comparable to the competitors in the market."
"The licensing fees are renewed annually."
