Supports flexible hosting needs through seamless upgradability and strong monitoring capabilities
The most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge R-Series for me are the feature richness and the upgradability. I really love the way that it is so dynamically applicable for every situation, and they manage to have an all-in-one solution for every single situation. Dell PowerEdge has supported the growth and operational success of my company through its great compute power and price-to-performance ratio. Every time Dell is at the top of its game for us, and there is just no other brand for us that is able to reach that kind of price-to-performance ratio. Dell PowerEdge R-Series has features that specifically cater to the needs of my small company, such as iDRAC. The iDRAC system is a complete feature set for managing servers and hardware technically and monitoring-wise. It really fits in our system and our ecosystem, and monitoring-wise, it is excellent. They have all these sensors available via different protocols and end points, which I love, and the ability to manage and control everything via the iDRAC interface is just a welcome bonus. In our use case, Dell PowerEdge R-Series is very flexible. It is another computer which helps a lot because of the durability over time. They keep running, making scalability for getting more of those resources in our environment so easy.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Dell PowerEdge R-Series is a scalable solution that is always up to date with the latest processor, memories, and all that, especially when a customer requires the latest technology for maximum performance."
"The stability is good, it also lasts a relatively long time, our customers are typically looking for something that will hold up for about five years, and this solution does that, as it's not buggy, there aren't glitches, and it doesn't crash or break down."
"The product is well-rounded and has been effective in meeting our needs."
"Any necessary adjustments can be made seamlessly without the need to unplug cables, as everything is contained within the rack itself."
"The most valuable feature of Dell PowerEdge R-Series server is the processing speed."
"Dell PowerEdge has supported the growth and operational success of my company through its great compute power and price-to-performance ratio."
"Dell R series are very good engineered servers."
"The best features Dell PowerEdge R-Series offers are that they are reliable, they perform well, and the cost is reasonable."
"With each user having its own physical CPU/GPU, enough memory etc. (when dealing with HDI) the overall user experience will be top notch, as to be expected."
"Scalability is great, and that was one of the key bits, as it has the scalability option in which you can fit four on each blade and have the capacity to keep on going."
"Everything looks to have a product superstar in hand: less energy consumption, lower cost, less space, scalable and customizable."

Cons

"Speaking on the XE series specifically, the internal service to the system, if you need to get to a DIMM or anything similar, requires that you remove all three risers and the storage controller. It's not very internally service friendly."
"When integrating the PowerEdge rack, we needed help from all the different companies to combine it with the servers. Each company has a system, and things must align with the server."
"Maybe on the education side, working with third-party sellers on how easy their products are could probably help."
"I do not have any qualms or problems with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. However, when it comes to the software, some of their competitors are already feeding a lot of performance and availability data to an online platform. We have not seen that with PowerEdge."
"System security can be improved. They can add more power and security for ESXi version 7."
"Non-vendor-specific things could benefit Dell PowerEdge R-Series. Dell has a lot of OEM material, obviously, because it is an OEM provider, but it could benefit from more AMD, more ARM, and more across the line."
"On the MX7000 platform, they should continue to release better and faster blades."
"I want Dell to offer more virtualization platforms because the cost of VMware is getting too high."
"I think there's room for improvement. It doesn't work properly yet."
"Why not spend the same (or a bit more perhaps) amount on virtual?"
"However, with great potential gains, there is a big risk."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of Dell EMC PowerEdge Rack Servers is reasonable compared to other solutions."
"At present, the pricing seems a bit high for us."
"Dell EMC PowerEdge Rack Servers are very expensive."
"It is very competitive. I have not been too involved in the licensing, but from a hardware perspective, I always find them to be competitive."
"It has generally been very competitive. It is not the best, but it is very competitive."
"PowerEdge is not a cheap product. It's a quality product, but there is always competition. If you want to buy a server, you need an operating system, and most of it is Microsoft. A bundled solution costs less than a separate operating system and hardware."
"Dell's solution was cheaper than HP's solution."
"The cost structure associated with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers presents itself as a potential point of contention for budget-conscious consumers, as it could be more strategically positioned to compete within the broader marketplace."
