Infrastructure has delivered reliable control for diverse heavy imagery and application workloads
I think most of them are in Dell PowerEdge XE-Series. What I found in Dell PowerEdge XE-Series servers is the disk reading; sometimes with heavy imagery, we find it to be slow. Some of our workloads utilize heavy imagery, which could be several terabytes or gigabytes in size, so when accessing imagery, we find disk read to be a bit slow. I need to check with my team, but I recently noticed some compatibility issues with disk upgrades and RAM upgrades in Dell PowerEdge XE-Series, and limitations were there. In the upcoming series, I hope to see flexibility in adding GPUs and similar features. I would rate this review an overall eight out of ten.

Stability has reduced hardware refresh needs and supports high-performance workloads
The best features Oracle SPARC Servers offer are that they are very stable and with high performance. Regarding the high performance aspect, I can say that they are great for databases and Java applications. Oracle SPARC Servers have positively impacted our organization because it's very good for our budget since we can use the system for so many years and don't have to buy new systems.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of these servers is the ability to store a lot—the capacity and the number of hard disk drives."
"One of the most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge XE Servers is the ease of fixing issues if there are any."
"The strong point of this solution is its compatibility with VMware and its resilience."
"In general, it works well. We haven't had issues."
"The resource management features are valuable."
"The most valuable feature is the trusted platform module."
"PowerEdge XE servers are high-performing. We're hardly using 15 percent of their computing power, so there's a lot left over that we could utilize."
"The most valuable feature is that it can support up to 32 drives of internal storage."
"I have found the LDAP facilities most valuable. In addition, I like the CPU."
"Oracle SPARC Servers have positively impacted our organization because it's very good for our budget since we can use the system for so many years and don't have to buy new systems."
"The operating system is rock solid and the best I have ever used."
"Our customers are happy with many features in Oracle SPARC Servers, like the automatic ASR feature."
"The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that Oracle Database functions very well with Oracle SPARC Servers."
"The processor is very helpful and the licensing is very flexible."
"The Oracle server is very powerful. They are more powerful and durable compared to Intel hardware. Which has been a benefit to our organization."
"The performance is the best feature."

Cons

"The quality and reliability could be improved."
"Dell PowerEdge XE Servers can improve by adapting HCI technology."
"It should be easier to extend PowerEdge XE servers. We haven't architected them with an eye toward scalability. They have a fixed number of slots for hard drives, which is enough for our present use case, However, we would have more options if we could extend that. We could deploy the servers in a broader range of use cases with different requirements. It's fine for our current deployment with only a few thousand users. We're exploring other solutions like such as VxRail or PowerFlex for larger public-facing use cases."
"Upgrading can be a bit difficult."
"In future releases, there should be more support options for the latest processor."
"We use OpenManager a lot, and that can be a bit clunky at times. They can make that better."
"It is mostly stable, but the usual problem would be, for example, upgrading to a newer version of VMware or dealing with compatibility issues during the process."
"The support team must improve the speed of response."
"The solution could improve by giving a clear roadmap about the future. I'm not seeing a lot of improvements on the OS side of the software. They need to work more on the operating system."
"Oracle doesn't have a good roadmap for the solution because they are moving to the x86 platform."
"Like IBM, Oracle SPARC Servers should be able to run other open operating systems like Linux."
"They have declared the end of life of the hardware."
"I would like to see a reduced price point."
"They need some sort of modeling because IBM has different types of models."
"Oracle SPARC Servers should be fine-tuned well enough to work with the other servers and software products in the market, as it is an area where Oracle SPARC Servers lack."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If you want an SLA for parts and equipment then you need to purchase a support agreement."
"You always want slightly cheaper, but overall, they are quite comparable and quite neutral."
"Dell has competitive pricing."
"There are different types of licensing available, that works well for customers. The product is not very much to purchase."
"The pricing model is quite competitive."
"This solution is priced very reasonably."
"My company makes yearly payments toward the licensing costs attached to the solution."
"The licensing is flexible."
"The application running on it is very important to us and this makes the price worth it."
"Oracle SPARC Servers are expensive to manage, this is because after five years Oracle will increase the support charges for the hardware. The licensing policy for Oracle is different for Intel and Sparc. It will cost you less if you use your Oracle hardware with Oracle SPARC Servers."
"The hardware is expensive but it has very rich virtualization features that make it economical."
