Family sharing and personal backups have improved how I manage and access my files anywhere
I am not fond of their syncing. Their file syncing is very clunky, so I am not a real fan of the file syncing. I think Box does a much better job of the syncing of data onto desktops and laptops. When you try to sync the files in Dropbox, it actually puts a copy of the file on your laptop, so it sucks up all of your memory. Whereas with Box, I can sync files into my file explorer and it is still cloud-based. They have not saved the file physically onto my laptop. They save it in the cloud and it just does a temporary download and then it uploads again, but that file is not saved on my laptop. Whereas with Dropbox, anytime you want to sync on your laptop, it actually does save it. There is a way to set it up, but it takes a lot more work and effort and I have never been able to get it to work the way I want it to work. So I just do not sync my files with Dropbox on my laptop. That limits my ability to use Dropbox from my work laptop because my work laptop just does not have any memory at all on it. They give the bare minimum of memory and say that it should all be in the cloud anyway, so you do not need to have that much storage space. So I cannot even access Dropbox from my work laptop and have to use the browser version of Dropbox if I need to access my Dropbox from my work laptop. Within the company, it is a personal choice. Our company has not dictated what cloud service to use. As long as it has all the security measures that meet the standards of our IT department, anyone can use whatever cloud service they want. For example, our company is not allowed to use Google because Google is not a secure cloud service in the estimation of our IT department. So there are cloud services that we are not allowed to use, but from the five to seven different services that they give us to choose from, we all can find what meets our needs.

Streamlined global file sharing with user-friendly interface and self-service capabilities
I'm not a network expert, however, there must be some room for improvement. Perhaps there could be a notification to users about their bandwidth or network packet loss. If users receive such notifications, they can understand any disruptions are due to issues with their network or bandwidth rather than the site or Kiteworks. Additionally, I work from offshore India, and I told my client manager to communicate with the Kiteworks forum salesman regarding one feature. I noticed the Kiteworks login UI is very basic, lacking customization. Allowing more HTML tags to add hyperlinks or user-friendly information on the home page would be very useful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One of the most useful features of Dropbox is its ease of use."
"The performance is good, it is easy to use and very user-friendly, they provide a generous amount of space, and the security is very good."
"It is very practical and so easy to upload and download files and carry on without my computer."
"Reliability is the most valuable feature."
"The user interface is very user-friendly."
"Sync is fast."
"It is easy to install, and it is stable and scalable."
"We don't really use the collaboration features because we have only a small organization. Dropbox is valuable having the hard drive space available, and the access to be able to upload and access the content."
"It’s a great product that you should seriously consider and take the first step by training."
"The best part of this solution is that we can generate multiple reports about how the data is transferred and about user information or IP."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to send a large file of 30 GB in size and more. In Outlook and other email applications, you cannot send files that are larger than 20 MB. But with Kiteworks, 30 GB is transferable by default and, with the proper approval, a file of up to 100 GB can be sent. It makes file transfer very easy and smooth."
"We could see whether the customer with whom we shared a file had downloaded it, which was not available with GitHub."
"Kiteworks is easy to manage and maintain with a user-friendly interface and I recommend it to anyone that requires a file-sharing system that supports SFTP."
"The solution can be used remotely; it's easy to upload and share files."
"The benefits that Kiteworks has provided to its customers in terms of data sovereignty."
"The most valuable aspect of Kiteworks is undoubtedly the private content network. This feature is particularly beneficial for us. Furthermore, it serves as a centralized platform that enables us to track and manage our information exchange."

Cons

"It's an expensive solution."
"The complex initial setup phase of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"The product improvement could include better integration with other tools and more advanced file versioning features."
"The interface could have bigger buttons."
"The interface could have bigger buttons."
"Not sure about security, I'm cautious."
"The solution could be more scalable."
"One area of improvement would be to allow multiple users to edit a file simultaneously and see edits in real time, similar to OneDrive."
"We mainly had stability issues with kiteworks, where we were pushing the limits of its capability."
"There is no offboarding process for end-users in Kiteworks. It's a manual process. There is no automated syncing with LDAP and checking to see if the account is still active. It's a manual process to get people out of here, which isn't the best way."
"There are always issues when there are bugs or upgrades. The challenge with upgrading is getting more storage from the customer. Every time we have a new version, it requires additional storage. This means that the customer would need to procure more storage for their server, which they don't like because it means additional cost to them. So, I think my request would be that the version upgrades don't require any significant storage requirement."
"We have experienced a few hiccups and bugs when using the admin console and from a user perspective."
"I noticed the Kiteworks login UI is very basic, lacking customization. Allowing more HTML tags to add hyperlinks or user-friendly information on the home page would be very useful."
"We have experienced some issues with stability due to bugs."
"Perhaps there could be a notification to users about their bandwidth or network packet loss."
"The one feature, which I have also requested directly to Kiteworks, is to have a scheduled upgrade function. Currently, one of my engineers logs in after hours for the upgrade. We're a hospital, and we're 24/7, but the primary users are seven to five. So, we log in the early evening just to push a button to tell it to do the update. It would be nice if that could be very easily scheduled."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I was using the free version of the product."
"The product is free up to a certain limit."
"Users need to pay to increase the solution's capacity."
"I am using the free solution, which provides me with 2GBs of storage, and for me, it's sufficient."
"We use a yearly license. The pricing is not a bad price. I'd rate it about a five out of ten, with ten being expensive and one being cheap."
"Its price is quite cheap. It is quite competitive. You just need to pay for the license. There are no additional costs."
"My company makes monthly payments towards the licensing charges associated with the product. I think it's a reasonably priced product."
"I don't pay any licensing costs."
"They changed it midstream. We were being charged a certain flat rate for SFTP traffic. For whatever reason, at the beginning of the year, our pricing changed, and we are now being charged more for using a feature of the product than we were when we first bought it. That has been our experience with billing. It turned out to be more expensive than when we started with it."
"The license management is changing and confusing. If I could make one change to it, it would be better license management through the API."
"The price of Kiteworks is reasonable."
"The solution is very expensive because we are buying with Malaysian Ringgit and it's sold in US dollars."
"It is not really expensive. I mean, to me it's obviously expensive, but it's worth it."
"I believe it's a little costly, but given the faith that we put into it from a security perspective to maintain the integrity of our patient information that is being transferred through this system, that's a small price to pay. So, on the surface, it might look like a lot of money, but depending on the need for security, which is where we feel it shines, it's okay price-wise."
