A good product that helps me to manage complex digital solutions
My advice to others would be that Drupal is not only a CMS, you need to learn the Drupal fundamentals before to start the project. Drupal is a handy tool whenever you work on a digital infrastructure broad project and not only a simple website. So if you have a big project, you can use Drupal. But if you have a small website, like a blog or simple website, my advice would be not to use Drupal, because Drupal is too complex and the cost to maintain the platform can be too high, related to the value of your website, for example. If you have a website with a big product catalog, for example, in many languages and in many countries in the world, then Drupal is good. But if you have a simple website, like a portfolio or five page-website, you can use many other technologies that'd be simple to maintain and implement. On a scale from one to 10, I will rate Drupal an eight. In the next release, I would like to see basic page buttons and better integration with the analytics platform. A drag and drop function to create simple pages will also be handy. For example, if a customer wants to create a landing page, it should be easy for him or her to do so. I would also like to see better translation management.

Streamlined collaboration through seamless integration and customization
I have been an administrator for SharePoint and have used it as an end-user for document storage. Predominantly, I've been involved in administration SharePoint helps a lot since we've moved from using it directly to using it as a backend for Teams, which makes collaboration easier. It supports…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use a part of the solution called Acquia. The personalization portion of this is the most valuable aspect fo the solution."
"The feature I find most valuable is that Drupal is a framework and not only a CMS."
"It is good for big projects."
"You can build websites on it very quickly."
"The access control is definitely a good feature. We also appreciate the improvements they've made to the online applications, where multiple users can work on the same documents simultaneously. Everything syncs automatically."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to easily build intranet sites for communicating within teams, storing documentation, product information, pricing policies, updates on product infrastructure, and other related news."
"The ability to quickly and easily create team sites has been great."
"It's stable. It's very widely used by companies. Also, the knowledge of the product has improved over the years, and by other companies that support it or are Microsoft SharePoint partners. So if there are problems, there's always a user or company that knows the information or can help you; even with very uncommon problems."
"It has made us faster and more efficient."
"Information is now available instantly to managers on all devices."
"It offers an easy way to store unstructured content (.pdf, .doc, .xls, images) and to tag them with metadata."
"SharePoint is smooth and easy to use for editing, updating, and uploading files."

Cons

"It is a little bit simplified."
"Digital experience features like target, segmentation, and campaign management have a long way to go."
"The user experience in designing layouts should be much easier or much more helpful."
"I think the support needs to improve, as well as the integration with tracking and analytics systems."
"SharePoint sometimes cannot handle the amount of co-editing that we do."
"I understand that some functions are lost when you store the information in a file system, so maybe that's a way SharePoint can improve."
"Replication needs improvement."
"Document management and the ability to easily integrate single sign-on (SSO) are areas for improvement in SharePoint."
"The areas of this solution that need improvement are the relationships between lists, cross-site web parts, and page-building tools."
"Too many versions being released in a short time period. Too much time being devoted to migration planning."
"The search functionality could be improved, especially when dealing with 'lift' lists, where there are performance issues."
"The product could be improved in a lot of way. It is so frustrating to get things to work as advertised."

"It is very expensive."
"For this type of solution, it is not wise to buy it without Software Assurance."
"We have purchased add-ons to handle multiple site collections, form creation, and design."

Jive vs Sharepoint vs Drupal Commons
At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a…
