Flexibility and detailed performance stats enable effective network monitoring
Spectrum is very good at monitoring all network faults and configurations. It enables me to take action based on network issues. The Performance Management provides detailed network performance stats, including CPU, memory, and interface bandwidth. Additionally, Spectrum is flexible and allows me to organize and treat devices uniquely without impacting other devices.

Better support and more accessible resources are crucial. Customers have expressed that support is not as flexible, and it is difficult to obtain necessary information quickly. Customers would benefit from improved training material for integration with other products. The solution's pricing is high and needs to be reconsidered, and the technical support should improve to provide more accessible and open information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There is another component of the tool called Network Flow Analysis. It gives us the ability to troubleshoot issues which do not appear right away."
"It is easy to use, and the performance metrics are helping us to know our network better."
"Considering all these factors, it's really a good and easy product for analyzing your network performance, health status, and the quality of services."
"It has improved efficiency because now there is the one-stop shop where you can view all your data, instead of needing to click around in four different tools."
"The solution's performance itself is very good because it is a vertical database that loads very fast in comparison to other products."
"My sales representative, I would not trade him in for the world. He has done a really good job. I am really happy with him."
"The most valuable of CA Performance Management is consolidated network infrastructure monitoring and reporting."
"My advice would be start today. The tool is great and is pretty flexible, also for integration in other tools using OpenAPI."
"In the past we would spend months in meetings with a new customer, defining what they wanted to monitor, and most of the time we would come back home to see if that was possible to do, however, with CA UIM, we can provide our clients with a predefined menu of items to collect, and we can select those faster and more efficiently."
"It is the foundation for our monitoring solution."
"UIM covered 95% of that."
"Really good. Very, very good. I got nothing but nice things to say about them."
"It delivers our customers many metrics, so they may make decisions."
"The most valuable features are, I would say, the flexibility and the performance."
"The product is one of the best in the market, and even more, it's better when you start talking about the enterprise level because of its great scalability, but this product is simple enough to be used by small-to-medium and medium-to-big companies."
"The primary benefit for us at this stage in our approach is that we've been able to cut outages by about 300%."

Cons

"The database should have higher availability in case of an incident."
"Product has issue collecting IP SLA data."
"What we want to see: More integration inside of Spectrum and integration of role-based access."
"One of the greatest challenges we have encountered are the polling cycles."
"The solution could improve the database model. It is also not very good because they have a lot of interconnections with other data sources, such as NFA and VNA."
"When it goes through discovery, or whatever it is doing in the back-end that slows it down, sometimes we get some failures with it. "
"It needs role-based administration."
"Today, tenants are bound to a data collector which requires a lot of networking and resources to configure."
"I would probably like to see more out-of-the-box solutions that I don't have to individually go into, configure and set up myself."
"A lot of the admin is web-based. Having the web-admin portal be a bit more scalable and adding the feature of responsive decision-making process, it would be of benefit to us and I’m sure to others as well."
"I think it can be improved by a greater provision of specialized technical support, as there are very few trained personnel there."
"Parts of the Unified Management Portal are not written in HTML5. I would like all components (Portlets) to be HTML5."
"Continuing to mature the SNP collector and the network side of the tools they're still not as strong as they need to be."
"NSD and NMS support need to be improved. Usually, what I encountered was that if we had an issue, the suggestion was always to upgrade to the current version, but sometimes when they upgraded some features would stop working."
"If the database is down or if there is something going on, the console becomes very buggy and very, very slow, and sometimes impossible to use."
"Communication between hubs collector needs major improvments"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool's pricing is based on the number of network devices."
"They should provide more scalable licensing for the product."
"Do your homework and know how many devices you will be managing out of the gate. Be sure to project what your growth will be each year."
"We were looking at other vendors in the marketplace for NetFlow, and CA just beat everybody else in price, cost, and the size to implement. "
"I like the licensing model because it's device-based."
"We purchase a license to use the solution every three years and we have multiple contracts. They have been increasing the price annually. We have a baseline for three years and then we need to pay the difference from the baseline, and we are in the process of negotiating a new price for all the licenses we need. The price overall is affordable."
"CAD $400,000 annually."
"Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."
"The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
"This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
"The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
"Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
