AI-driven insights have reduced downtime and improved cross-team collaboration
We encountered some challenges while using Dynatrace. Although the initial setup was smooth, fine-tuning alert thresholds and custom metrics took some time. Another challenge was that Dynatrace charges based on host units, so we had to carefully plan our agent deployments. The licensing model is expensive. Additionally, the complexity of setup is an issue. While OneAgent and auto-discover services are powerful, the setup is more complex compared to other tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. These integrations are simple and basic, but Dynatrace setup requires more complexity based on the environment. For new users wanting to use Dynatrace, it is difficult. However, the AI-related solutions and metrics took us to the next level for identifying and fixing things. Dynatrace requires an agent for operation. OneAgent is powerful, but it is also resource-heavy. On lightweight nodes or older systems, the agent can slightly impact performance. If Dynatrace could implement a lightweight agent behavior, we could make things faster. Additionally, if Dynatrace could add a long-term retention policy so that we could store more data and find fine-grained details, that would help us. While Dynatrace managed edition supports on-premises deployment, the SaaS version depends on cloud connectivity. For highly regulated or air-gapped environments, setup and updates can be challenging. Although the initial setup is smooth, if someone wants to fine-tune it and fully understand the tool end-to-end, it could be tricky.

Pros

"Dynatrace helps us to improve overall performance and allows us to detect the root cause of an outbreak on our systems."
"The Dashboard is very useful, as you can monitor different parameters on the same screen."
"I would definitely recommend this solution, because it has all of the new features coming with Dynatrace OneAgent."
"Auto alerting and reporting on the application and the infrastructure aid us in delivering our service with greater value."
"UEM (User Experience Management) is an optional feature that we acquired and use a lot. It provides indicators from the customer's browser, reflecting more precisely on what our internal users are experiencing."
"It will allow us to eventually become more proactive when problems start arising; we can see them before they happen and address them before there is any impact to our customers."
"Improves the ability to isolate issues and determine root cause with the same tool."
"The solution has been very stable; there are no bugs or glitches, it doesn't crash or freeze, and it's reliable."
"Real User Monitoring tools help proactively identify problems before they become critical by monitoring thresholds. There is a threshold and an SOA threshold."
"This solution is very reliable; it's stable."
"Real User Monitor does its job, and that is why we have stayed with it for so many years."
"We use RUM and BSM and so far it has been really good at getting real user transactions from a real user monitor and then tying it to a BSM single view dashboard, where we get the whole realistic picture."
"With the solution, you can easily access any issues in your infrastructure."
"The Micro Focus technical support is quite good."
"It offers near-real-time analytics, which is helpful."
"The most useful feature of this solution is tracking, where the application's traffic is monitored, analyzed, and presented as a live session of that particular user so that, for example, everything you do in a bank application transaction can be tracked by the application."

Cons

"The dashboarding process and creating measures and metrics, it needs to be made a little bit easier and more simplified. "
"Needs a clearer view for Smartscape."
"I was hands on in the setup of the solution. Initially, it seemed a little daunting."
"While designing the business dashboard, I encountered various bugs that impacted my work."
"Cloud monitoring is insufficient."
"I would like to see internal synthetic tests in the next release, which is already on the roadmap."
"The web interface, in some cases, is a little ambiguous to use."
"This solution needs more powerful database monitoring capabilities."
"One area to improve is the user interface, of course. The second one is their R&D has virtually stopped building a product roadmap."
"Real User Monitor needs to cover more protocols to provide more in-depth information. It could also be better at monitoring voice-related traffic. There is currently no visibility in that channel."
"Most of the dashboards require a lot of configuration. We are not happy with the dashboard."
"Some issues with login errors."
"Recently we have been facing some stability issues."
"This technology is considered to be older."
"Customer support needs to improve by bringing in more people who are knowledgeable about the tool, as there are very few left."
"The product needs more R&D to make it easier and more compatible with other software."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is based on the number of servers monitored, so for big applications, it is a bit expensive."
"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was a pretty straightforward process. We had no hiccups."
"Look at the product and the product features, not the price. Too often people look at the price and turn away. Dynatrace costs a little bit more than the other products I researched, but it can do far more."
"Pricing is still too expensive."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive APM that we sell, compared to competitors' products. The license pricing could be improved. My customers pay for licensing yearly."
"I feel the price is good for what the product does."
"We purchased a subscription for one year and it is an expensive solution for a large enterprise like ours."
"We have a three-year contract. We have 30 licenses for the full stack and 3 licenses for the DEM unit."
"Compared to other tools, OpenText Real User Monitoring is an expensive solution."
"Not expensive."
"The price is approximately €30,000 ($35,500 USD) for the enterprise edition."
"If I compare with other vendors, other vendors are more expensive"
