User-level monitoring with near-real-time analytics boosts service availability
The use case is about user-level monitoring and the availability of a service for a user. It's about whether the service is available, its performance, and the type of errors a user is receiving, from a user perspective The functions that Real User Monitor is intended for, which is to provide the…

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a good product."
"We found this to be a stable product."
"If you have an old-fashioned infrastructure with data center servers then this is a good solution for you."
"The Micro Focus technical support is quite good."
"Real User Monitoring tools help proactively identify problems before they become critical by monitoring thresholds. There is a threshold and an SOA threshold."
"Very easy to implement."
"We use RUM and BSM and so far it has been really good at getting real user transactions from a real user monitor and then tying it to a BSM single view dashboard, where we get the whole realistic picture."
"With the solution, you can easily access any issues in your infrastructure."
"The good part with AppDynamics is that you get all three layers, even though there still are some missing links."
"The most valuable feature is the end-to-end transaction tracing, which provides genuine insights by allowing users to follow a single transaction across multiple microservices to pinpoint delays or errors, thereby saving hours during major incidents."
"From the performance management side, I like everything from business transaction work to tracking. On the database side, we can get a lot of insights from the database. On the server monitoring side, it helped us a lot to find out some of the issues on the VM side because VMs were creating a little trouble for us."
"A solution like AppDynamics is a definite advantage because it can pinpoint the areas that the person(s) reviewing the issue need to focus on, making the technicians a lot faster in remediating issues that an application is presenting."
"We previously had an operations team continuously monitoring applications. Now, they just have set things up and our developers can monitor, view, and act on them, accordingly."
"We have become more proactive rather than reactive."
"Overall, this is a good product and it is one of our top recommendations."
"The customer service and support are helpful and responsive."

Cons

"We would like to see support for non-Windows environments."
"One area to improve is the user interface, of course. The second one is their R&D has virtually stopped building a product roadmap."
"When we want to monitor our encrypted traffic, this product doesn't work because our cipher is not supported."
"The product needs more R&D to make it easier and more compatible with other software."
"Some issues with login errors."
"Recently we have been facing some stability issues."
"Customer support needs to improve by bringing in more people who are knowledgeable about the tool, as there are very few left."
"Most of the dashboards require a lot of configuration. We are not happy with the dashboard."
"They do not have robust documentation."
"The GUI can be overwhelming at first to a novice Dev or Ops support person, and the possible root causes of an issue do not bubble up to the first screen you see."
"There may be some older technologies that are still covered, however, it's not as plug-and-play."
"It is slightly higher on the pricing front, but it is very reliable."
"Sometimes, it can be a little bit too crowded; all the screens."
"AppD is really cool and a unified solution for both APM and APM centric analytics side, but this process is a little bit manual."
"Every upgrade is a challenge. A big enterprise cannot handle that many releases like that."
"It's a very complex application, and requires almost a full-time person to be in there working on it all the time."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to other tools, OpenText Real User Monitoring is an expensive solution."
"If I compare with other vendors, other vendors are more expensive"
"The price is approximately €30,000 ($35,500 USD) for the enterprise edition."
"Not expensive."
"AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a very expensive product, but if you negotiate well, you get value for money...My company used to make early payments toward the licensing costs of the solution, but now my company has opted for a different licensing model."
"There is a license to use this solution. However, the clients pay for the licenses we are the service provider."
"It could be cheaper. It's a little cost prohibitive. There are so many features that also show a lot of value, but it’s not always easy to justify the cost."
"The pricing needs to come down."
"One of the main downsides to the solution is its cost."
"I would like more flexible pricing: A pay-per-use model, rather than just a fixed-price model."
"The licensing cost is fairly high"
"There is a license needed to use the solution and it is expensive. The licensing model needs to improve."
