Presents all information in one place and automates some of our manual processes
This product is used by more than 50 colleges in our state and it is purchased by the government. The system office does the testing and pushes out the patches to us, so everything has been testing. Even if there is any customization that needs to be done, it happens before it comes to us. As such, I haven't had to contact technical support myself.

Has connected financial data across departments and improved future cash flow planning
I would like to improve the integration with other solutions, as I need everything integrated, like the HR module, purchase module, SCM, production, and engineering. Each and every module should be connected to the finance module, and I think Oracle provides the right solution. Also, SAP, IFS, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 offer some solutions, but I am not as happy with them as I am with Oracle. I believe that Oracle E-Business Suite could improve by transitioning from Java-based scripts in our system to a web-based environment. While Oracle already has JD Edwards available in web-based format, I think it needs to be smoother for optimization and presentation in the future. In comparison, IFS is fully web-based, and all applications are sufficiently good and user-friendly. We are developing and trying to improve to a web-based setup, but it is currently too costly.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Using Ellucian means that we have more automated processes, and don't have to do everything manually."
"I like that all of the student information is in one place."
"Decent support, large installed base, adequate plus training."
"This is our ERP and we are using it for our entire supply chain flow, i.e., from the start of the billing to the shipping process."
"Valuable features include expense management and the accounting suite of products."
"For us, the most valuable feature is that we have one database, one instance; yet we operate in more than six countries across the world, so it makes it easy for us to run with a very small IT staff."
"Shipment planning using Oracle Transportation Management has helped for: Accurate freight estimation Faster and accurate route planning Tracking shipments to ensure on time delivery Improving the customer experience."
"It's a very comprehensive solution that enables us to manage customers, customer service, finances, projects, HR, and other business operations."
"The most valuable features for us are the abilities it provides for us to generate our financial statements and to develop our own customized reports exactly how we want."
"We can drill down from the sales order line to the invoice and payment at the detailed level."
"The procure-to-pay is core to our business and relevant to us."

Cons

"The functionality for monitoring satisfactory academic progress has room for improvement."
"It is expensive and uses an antiquated database (Unidata) that requires a specialized set of technical skills in staff."
"The support site is the only bad thing I've seen with Oracle. Unless you type in the exact right words, you don't get the right answers."
"The initial setup was a little complex."
"The deployment of the Oracle E-Business Suite was simple. I have done many deployments and I find it simple, but for others, it might not be easy."
"In my current scenario, I would not recommend EBS for anyone. It is better to purchase a cloud solution rather than having this one."
"The iStore could be better."
"Oracle has always had one drawback and that is that it's not as user friendly as it's competitors, whether from the database perspective or switching from SAP to Oracle."
"Oracle tends to be slower when it comes to bringing flashy functionalities than other, smaller entities can deliver."
"The on-premises version of this solution can be difficult to expand, compared to its cloud version. The on-premises version is also more limited, versus the cloud version that has a lot of improvements. Maintaining this solution is also too costly."
