Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

What really stands out in Fortinet FortiEDR is that we are integrating it with some private clouds at the customer's premises with secure SD-WAN networks. I don't know how much it contributes to this SD-WAN network in the own premises cloud solution, but that is what we are doing. This is especially relevant for government projects where the SD-WAN solution is within their private network, not touching the Internet or any other access. Their first requirement is centralized management. Additionally, they need antivirus updates and other things to be done through a centralized platform within that private cloud. That is their requirement, and currently, we temporarily allow internet access, but it is not preferred. We are moving towards a complete air gap, providing full isolation from the internet for that. We have started to work with machine learning capabilities in Fortinet FortiEDR. We are not that well-versed yet, but we have begun using machine learning for intrusion detection and other purposes. Regarding forensic analysis in Fortinet FortiEDR, it is useful in understanding attack vectors because our projects are based on the voice side, such as cloud PBX solutions and call center management. There are media activities and many attacks coming from the outside, as well as vulnerabilities from endpoints. In those cases, we need detailed analysis through an AI platform to inspect how these attacks are coming. We also require a proactive protection mechanism, including an alarm system for threat detection before attacks occur.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Cortex XDR is a very capable solution for protecting large networks and a lot of endpoints. It's very useful because the automation is very high, and if you combine it with the features on Palo Alto firewalls, it provides very strong protection."
"Cortex XDR is a simple platform that's easy for administrators and users. You have a lot of flexibility to change or customize the features."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks's ability to block sophisticated threats in real time is quite good and is on par with SentinelOne's."
"The solution allows us to gain remote access without the user's knowledge and take the necessary actions on the device."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the user interface."
"One of the things that I enjoy the most is using policy extensions. It's like having host firewalls to control USB connections. I think it's a wonderful tool to restrict use when connecting to our computers. Another important tool is Home Insights. That is an add-on to the Cortex solution. I like that because we can see all the vulnerabilities in the environment and control what assets are connected to our network."
"Cortex XDR lets us manage several clients from the same console, and its endpoint defense is more advanced than traditional antivirus."
"The multi-layered approach to the product gives you confidence that it will stop exploits, ransomware, worms, or viruses from compromising endpoints, essentially providing peace of mind."
"Scalability-wise, it is a very good solution."
"ESET Enterprise Inspector's greatest asset lies in its user-friendly interface, which allows for easy navigation and thorough analysis of incidents."
"The rules are the best and most useful features."
"Rules are the most valuable feature of ESET Inspect. They are created through XML language, and they track and filter events from endpoints. If the event matches the rule, the rule is triggered. Exceptions are the second most valuable feature because it gives you the power to filter false positives in large numbers. The third most valuable feature is the Learning mode that facilitates making exceptions for known processes with a good reputation."
"The product's most valuable features are its performance and stability."
"I find the multilayered endpoint security the most valuable feature."
"This solution is easy to install, setup and monitor."
"ESET Enterprise Inspector's most valuable feature is EDR."
"Additionally, when it comes to EDR, there are more tools available to assist with client work."
"Fortinet is very user-friendly for customers."
"The ease of deployment and configuration is valuable. It's very easy compared to other vendors like Sophos. Sophos' configuration is complex. Fortinet is a lot easier to understand. You don't need a lot of admin knowledge to do the configuration."
"The console is easy to read. I also like the scanning part and the ability to move assets from one to the other."
"Fortinet FortiEDR's firewalling, rule creation, monitoring, and inspection profiles are great."
"It is very easy to set up. I would rate my experience with the initial setup a ten out of ten, with ten being very easy to set up."
"What really stands out in Fortinet FortiEDR is that we are integrating it with some private clouds at the customer's premises with secure SD-WAN networks."
"Fortinet FortiEDR made our clients feel secure and more at ease, knowing that they had an EDR solution that would close the gap in their security posture."

Cons

"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by adding a sandbox feature to better compete with their competitors which have it."
"Traps doesn't work with McAfee. You need to remove McAfee to install Traps. This is very common, and its nothing that should be an issue. Some antivirus engines recognize Traps as an threat component, so maybe they need to shake hands somewhere."
"There are some third-party solutions that are difficult to integrate with, which is something that can be improved."
"The setup is quite easy. We had appropriate support from the manager. One thing that was missing was the integration part."
"The only issues that we have are, one the cost, two the dashboard is not very intuitive, even though you can drill down within the dashboard, we usually have to gather information from other sources to determine locations and if its a false positive."
"The solution lags to the real-time scenarios here and there."
"It would be good to have a better way to search for a file within the UI."
"Currently, we are monitoring all USB drives and ports but we would like to improve our device control capabilities."
"The solution could improve the consumption of resources. The RAM and CPU usage increases during usage which can cause issues. We have three separate services and it would be beneficial if all were executed from one agent limiting the over usage of system resources."
"It may be difficult for a first-time customer to understand all of the functions that are available to him."
"The platform's price could be better."
"One area that needs improvement for the product is ransomware protection, which does not offer complete security."
"The product is complex to configure, and there are too many errors that are not errors, making it an area that can be considered for improvement."
"It is not a stable product. We were disappointed in the stability of this product in comparison to McAffee."
"It is not a stable product. We were disappointed in the stability of this product in comparison to McAffee."
"Every vendor is working on making the job of SOC analysts easier, with fewer false positives and more precise detections. ESET uses LiveGrid technology that provides feedback on the reputation of files and operations. It's hard to eliminate all of the false positives, but hopefully, we'll see some improvement with the advances in AI."
"The control of scripts could be improved because you use Microsoft Active Directory and unnecessary scripts to keep the roles updated with company policies."
"The solution should address emerging threats like SQL injection."
"They can include the automation for the realtime updates. We have a network infrastructure with remote sites. Whenever they send updates, they are not automated. We have to go into the console and push those updates. I wish it was more automated. The update file is currently around 31 MB. It could be smaller."
"Integration with Azure and SaaS provisioning tools could improve Fortinet FortiEDR."
"FortiEDR can be improved by providing more detailed reporting."
"In smaller markets like Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Slovenia, it can be challenging to find customers with 500 endpoints. My suggestion to Fortinet would be to lower this minimum order quantity to one."
"We'd like to see more one-to-one product presentations for the distribution channels."
"To improve Fortinet, we need to see more features and technology areas at the endpoint level introduced."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The return on investment is from the user side because we have seen the performance of it increase the delivery time of the product if we are using too many web-based and on-premise applications. In indirect ways, we saw the return of investment in terms of performance and user satisfaction increase."
"Every customer has to pay for a license because it doesn't work with what you get from a managed services provider."
"The cost depends on your chosen license type, like Pro or other licenses."
"It is "expensive" and flexible."
"Cortex XDR's pricing is ok."
"The solution has one subscription for endpoint protection and one subscription for detection and response. The two licenses combined give you the BRO version."
"It is present, but when compared to other competitive products, I would say it is not less expensive; however, when all of the other added values are considered, the price is reasonable."
"It has reasonable pricing for the use cases it provides to the company."
"The platform's licensing is affordable and straightforward."
"The pricing and licensing are the big issue now, in my opinion. If the price was less than other companies, or a one-time charge for service was available, I think there would be more users of this solution."
"The platform is expensive; it could be cheaper."
"I feel it is a very expensive product."
"This is true in the case of licensing, we do not have the most expensive products, and we don't have the cheapest product, it's somewhere in the middle. Perhaps a little higher from the middle, but we are known for what we provide to our customers, and they are pleased."
"The hardware costs about €100,000 and about €20,000 annually for access."
"The solution is not expensive."
"The solution costs less than 10,000 for 100 users."
"While the cost may have been high, we view it as a worthwhile investment due to Fortinet's reliability and long-term performance."
"The pricing is good."
"I would rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"The pricing is typical for enterprises and fairly priced."
"There are no issues with the pricing."
