Unified licensing and AI-driven control have simplified multi-site management and boosted automation
There is a little bit of delay for the analytics in ExtremeCloud IQ, but it is acceptable. The response time in ExtremeCloud IQ is a little slow. The system response time is slow, and the updates on the system, such as the updates for the analytics or for the location-based services, are slow. For example, if I want to update the location-based solution, it takes about one minute to update my location. This is too much time. It's not an accurate location over one minute. They should enhance the response of the system part of location-based services, such as Extreme LPS or Extreme Location Essentials. This needs a huge improvement for the latency and for the updates.

Has the ability to track and sync through the grid
It would be nice if they restored the network overview of all connected network items. Before it was per site, but now they've made it an overall view of everything and it's quite chaotic because everything is in it instead of per site. It would be nice if they would switch it back to how it was. Additionally, adding your own devices should be made easier. Now you have to do it via technical support to get it incorporated into the new releases. It would be nice if the author generated a graphic network. This could also include the ACL troubleshooting capabilities. But I don't know if that will happen.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have been able to run State Assessment testing on laptops and iPads this year where in the past this was not even a consideration."
"The cloud-based management interface allows us to fully manage all our wireless radios, ensuring consistency and ease of access."
"The cloud-based controller through HiveManager is its most valuable feature. I can manage and configure changes to my access points from anywhere."
"We have installed these in around 40 nursing homes and they are working great."
"ExtremeCloud IQ is an intuitive platform. The tool's ability to streamline network operations depends on the end customer. Sometimes it's quicker, and sometimes it takes much longer. It helps me to address network problems."
"Since these APs are controller-less they are very dependable and easy to configure."
"With minimal knowledge and experience, I was able to deploy a robust wireless solution that just works."
"It has been a great product."
"The features we've found most valuable are the ability to track and sync mac-addresses and switchport information of connected hosts to the Infoblox grid, and also the configuration backups of managed devices."
"Scalable solution for tracking and syncing through the Infoblox grid."

Cons

"The tool has simplified things, but it also adds a complexity that sometimes stumps some users."
"While the UI is great, it could still use some tweaks."
"I would like to see more security features such as NAC integrated to the solution. This would allow customers to be able to control all other users under one dashboard."
"Yes, we had problems integrating it with Novell."
"I have had some stability issues with the older AP110/AP120 models taking newer v6 code."
"The product could support multi-vendor infrastructures."
"Lacks cyber asset tracking."
"Ease of setup and deployment, as well as tasks such as application access management, bandwidth throttling, and QoS could be greatly simplified."
"Lacks network overview for the entire connected network."
"Technical support for the devices should be improved. That should be made easier."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Extreme licensing is based on the number of access points. When you buy the license for the first year, everything is included, such as access to mapping, etc. If you don't renew your software assurance for the second year, the access points will still work, but you can't use the cloud management tools."
"I am not involved in the price, but I am sure that it is not cheap."
"The product pricing is reasonable."
"Buy near the end of Q4 in order to get a deal."
"ExtremeCloud IQ's pricing is high."
"For example, if you compare Aruba vs Aerohive, you need to check which licences from Aruba you need to match the functionality of Aerohive (usually you need at least three types of licences and a controller with redundancy). The same goes with Cisco, where you need buy additional licences for central management, firewall, spectral analysis, WIPS, PPSK, etc. Aerohive has a very simple model - one licence for all the functionalities - and you can believe that there are many. One licence makes it easy to maintain, scale, renew and you can plan your costs 10 years in advance."
"I would advise that you be sure to compare apples with apples. Many customers just look at the price per AP and licences, and compare that against other solutions. But, they do not look at the complete picture such as: TCO - how much the equipment will cost you over, say, seven years? Will the customer need to change complete infrastructure when they want to buy the newest hardware? Does support include a lifetime warranty and RMA?"
"It is costly as compared to Meraki, Aruba, Juniper, and Cisco. Cloud IQ is an enterprise solution, whereas Meraki is specifically a single solution."
