Unified licensing and AI-driven control have simplified multi-site management and boosted automation
There is a little bit of delay for the analytics in ExtremeCloud IQ, but it is acceptable. The response time in ExtremeCloud IQ is a little slow. The system response time is slow, and the updates on the system, such as the updates for the analytics or for the location-based services, are slow. For example, if I want to update the location-based solution, it takes about one minute to update my location. This is too much time. It's not an accurate location over one minute. They should enhance the response of the system part of location-based services, such as Extreme LPS or Extreme Location Essentials. This needs a huge improvement for the latency and for the updates.

Allows to upload necessary firmware to your device and perform the upgrade
With OpenText Network Automation, firmware can be uploaded for specific devices. If you need to upgrade a device, you can use this tool, though it may not apply to all devices. The software allows you to upload the necessary firmware to your device and perform the upgrade. Additionally, it enables you to check multiple devices for specific configurations and automates the search process and the configuration of multiple devices.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Customer Service: Our VAR/customer service is very responsive and always goes the extra mile."
"Whenever I have a concern, question, or just need a refresher the helpful staff at AeroHive is there to help me. By far, the ]best relationship I have ever had with a vendor."
"The Aerohive solution appeared to be price competitive, however lack of training and support in the region has made it more expensive than other solutions."
"I never worry about the WiFi being down."
"The most valuable feature is the centralized management capability."
"Integrated Firewall in every AP (with DPI inspection) is a killer feature and it is included already in the price of licence (with others, this feature is an add-on licence)."
"I would recommend Aerohive to anyone seeking a robust cloud-based WIFI system."
"It's nice to have a single interface to configure, troubleshoot and remediate any issues."
"It's great because you have a one-unit solution to aggregate network data, so it's one entry point for getting all the configuration into the same dashboard or same application."
"Micro Focus tools are mature tools, that are well developed."
"Pushing the network configuration to bulk devices. This saves a considerable amount of time that the engineer spends in pushing the network configuration."
"When compared with SolarWinds, it is more user-friendly, and tasks can be completed more quickly."
"We're able to set security policies and configure devices exactly how we want them."
"With OpenText Network Automation, firmware can be uploaded for specific devices. If you need to upgrade a device, you can use this tool, though it may not apply to all devices."

Cons

"A redesigned UI with better flow and more intuition would make configuration much easier."
"From my perspective, they need to add cyber asset tracking."
"They can improve just the onboarding process. More user information about the introduction to the product would be helpful. It would be good if they have a better user introduction to the new product because it is different than the prior version."
"The managing of switches within this solution could be improved."
"The only thing that I can think of would be for them to provide a standard out-of-the-box WiFi policy template that could work as temp default setup without having to build a functional network policy in the Hive Manager."
"Regional support and training was nearly non-existent and overseas support was always a hot potato with no commitment to solving any issues."
"Certain features only exist or work in certain versions."
"There could be better alerts setup for the access points."
"Compatibility of the devices needs to be enhanced, as it seems to be limited."
"We've found some problems that may or may not have to do with our infrastructure. There are also some software defects that we've found."
"We just spoke with some of the product managers. We are getting some serious performance issues that have some serious repercussions for support."
"When compared to other automation tools that are available in the market, more can be done to improve this solution."
"The tool performs slowly."
"Level one administration task can be defined in Micro Focus Network Automation but it could be more simplified."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are probably cheaper solutions but we invest for stability and performance for the longer haul."
"Extreme licensing is based on the number of access points. When you buy the license for the first year, everything is included, such as access to mapping, etc. If you don't renew your software assurance for the second year, the access points will still work, but you can't use the cloud management tools."
"Start small and grow big. You can choose the basic Aerohive Connect free subscription solution and, later, if needed (in terms of functionality) you can upgrade to Aerohive Select."
"Buy near the end of Q4 in order to get a deal."
"Previously, ExtremeCloudIQ provided free licensing for all the basic requirements of their customers. An advanced cloud user had to purchase advanced licenses for automation and advanced country features at the enterprise level. They have restricted the licensing, allowing only up to ten units for testing, which is challenging. This limitation becomes problematic, especially in countries like Sri Lanka or other Asian countries, where customers face economic challenges and have limited budgets. The previous free option was beneficial, but it has become tougher to manage with these new changes. They should revise their pricing structure, offering the basic features free of charge for up to 50 AP. Larger entities with more than 50 APs have the budget to support them. Still, it becomes more difficult for small and medium-sized businesses with less than 50 APs to allocate a significant budget for control and management features."
"The pricing is so cost-effective that it leaves no room for competition with other vendors."
"I would advise that you be sure to compare apples with apples. Many customers just look at the price per AP and licences, and compare that against other solutions. But, they do not look at the complete picture such as: TCO - how much the equipment will cost you over, say, seven years? Will the customer need to change complete infrastructure when they want to buy the newest hardware? Does support include a lifetime warranty and RMA?"
"The price was okay."
"Pricing is reasonable, but if you compare it with other network Operation Management tools that are available on the market, it's expensive."
