Load balancing has improved traffic distribution and currently supports high availability upgrades
F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) offers effective load balancing methods that help distribute traffic across our servers, whether we have two or several. This load balancing feature stands out as it is the fundamental work we do with F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM). While I recognize there are many features, such as iRules, which I have not explored yet, we primarily work on VIPs, pool members, and traffic distribution. The load balancing algorithms' flexibility makes them very useful for our team, enabling us to choose different servers and manage load effectively. We use various methods based on user or application requirements, making the algorithms set up by F5 in the backend quite helpful. F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) positively impacts our organization primarily through its load balancing capabilities. We avoid traffic overload on individual servers by placing backend servers behind F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) VIP. This load balancing helps us manage traffic effectively. Since the configuration of the I-series, we have had smooth performance, and with the recent migration to the R-series, it is working faster than before, providing positive outcomes for our operations. Since moving to the R-series, I notice improved performance; it is user-friendly and handles traffic efficiently. The upgrading process is different as we create tenants and a main host. R-series has better CPU and memory, leading to higher throughput with minimal downtime, making it a significant improvement over the I-series.

Patch automation has boosted compliance and saves hours in global server maintenance
The best features that Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) offers include its ability to help make us compliant at 95%, which is a big win if you are able to comply with 95% of devices, and it is also helpful for providing exact error codes, allowing us to troubleshoot accordingly. The features of Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) impact my daily workflow by saving time and helping in troubleshooting as well. Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) is very helpful, and I have nothing else to add about its features. Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to comply with all the servers with security patches, which include many bug fixes and do so in no time. With Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC), we are able to patch servers faster than we used to do via SCCM, and we save at least two to three hours in our global patching.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are using Application Security Manager (ASM) as a web application firewall, where there is a security signature to avoid a web level breach."
"When I look to work with a vendor like this, I look for vendors that are responsive, certainly ones that have a good reputation, and ones that when you get their products, they actually do what they tell you they're going to do."
"It supports APIs and virtual additions for cloud and VMware."
"Great load balancing."
"We have been using it for such a long time, and we are quite happy with it as an organization."
"Its user interface is very easy to use on a day-to-day basis. It is very user-friendly."
"F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) positively impacts our organization primarily through its load balancing capabilities, helping us avoid traffic overload on individual servers and manage traffic effectively, and since moving to the R-series, I notice improved performance as it is user-friendly, handles traffic efficiently, and offers better CPU and memory for higher throughput with minimal downtime."
"The BigIP F5 tool is applicable to all types of infrastructure and I would recommend this tool to others."
"Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) is a very good tool that companies should use, as it is very reliable, very fast, and allows you more time to work on other cases because Ivanti handles everything smoothly."

Cons

"It is a hardware load balancer, and its installation procedure is more complex than a software load balancer. There are pros and cons of using hardware load balancing. You have to have specific hardware deployed in your data center to activate this load balancer. They never came up with any software-based load balancing solution. It is all hardware-based."
"The analytics should provide insight into latency across various traffic routes and virtual servers."
"The user interface could be improved in F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager."
"Based on my experience using F5 and by only taking into consideration the last seven years, I have found that the reporting mechanism is bad."
"F5 has another solution to load balance servers on the cloud, which they got after the purchase of NGINX. It is deployed as Kubernetes or something like that, but the problem now is that they have two solutions for two situations. They should make F5 deployable on the cloud."
"Recently, I've seen one of the attacks on this particular network, where they managed to bypass its multi-factor authentication."
"If we decide to migrate to the cloud, I don't think that BIG-IP is a good solution and we probably won't use it."
"It is not scalable. It is a licensed product."
"To improve Ivanti Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC), I would suggest integrating something to fix the registry of a server, as including any steps that fix the registry or any DLL files causing issues where patches did not install properly would be beneficial."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Try to negotiate all the software features that you require upfront."
"There are additional costs depending on what modules or what functionality is required."
"The licensing strategy for F5 is good."
"There are a few licensing options available for F5 BIG-IP LTM. You can have a perpetual license which is a lifetime license. You then only need to renew the support, if you choose to open a ticket with the support."
"LTM is a good product, but it's expensive. They should make it more competitive because cloud providers offer free load balancing. Cloud providers can't cover all the security aspects of F5, but you get a decent amount of security. Cloud environments are becoming the norm across the IT industry. Many of the larger companies that previously used on-prem infrastructure are switching to the cloud, so companies like Fortinet and Palo Alto are reducing their prices. Otherwise, they can't compete in the cloud."
"The price of F5 BIG-IP LTM could improve."
"The price of F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) is too high."
"It is cheaper than the average on the market."
