Customer security is enhanced with software and update detection while licensing process needs improvement
A quick specific example of how I use Field Effect MDR to keep my customers secure is that it helps me identify computers that need updates, even when I believe they are already updated. Field Effect MDR finds software and Windows updates that aren't being completed, which I find very valuable.

Threat detection benefits stand out while AI capabilities need improvement
The features of Rapid7 MDR that I find most effective for threat detection are the threat intelligence capabilities because it already collects many vulnerabilities and exploitations, as well as the configuration of network devices. They integrate everything into one solution. The other solutions such as CrowdStrike or SentinelOne don't collect all the vulnerabilities or threat intelligence except within their product itself, making Rapid7 MDR very strong in this aspect. I have seen an ROI from this solution in terms of time savings. Because it includes everything, including SIEM, EDR, and vulnerability control, other solutions require integration of every module and vendor. It is easier to implement once they start, as the modules of the EDR can be challenging to implement and may require consulting.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is easy to manage surveillance."
"The AROs have been incredibly helpful."
"Unlike previous solutions, where we were solely informed of security incidents, Covalence's MDR allows for real-time incident prevention."
"The feature I've found the move valuable is the 24/7 monitoring."
"The automated response feature is incredibly effective."
"Hackers are trying to breach a business when they least expect it - that's often at night, weekends, and holidays. Covalence never sleeps or misses a second of monitoring."
"I get alerts if there's malicious activity or restrictions, should they any suspicious activity emerge."
"It provides valuable insights into our IT environment, enabling us to improve reselling, upgrades, and customer management."
"The features of Rapid7 MDR that I find most effective for threat detection are the threat intelligence capabilities because it already collects many vulnerabilities and exploitations, as well as the configuration of network devices."
"We've filled in crucial gaps we had with our previous solution. This was a key factor in choosing Rapid7 during the selection process. The ROI is already starting to show, too."
"The product allows us to customize our alerts."

Cons

"I would like Covalence to implement patch management as well."
"While Covalence addresses our notification and visibility needs, it falls short in keeping information up-to-date, which is where our MSP comes in to supplement its functionality."
"In my experience, Field Effect MDR is somewhat stable. However, I have one situation where it has been two months trying to resolve an installation issue on a server, which has consumed a significant amount of time."
"While it's essential to stay informed about potential issues, the recurring notifications about past vulnerabilities can lead to confusion and may detract from our focus on current threats."
"They put too much detail into the emails."
"They could use more third-party integrations with other MSP tools."
"One limitation is that if someone takes their laptop outside the office building, the DNS firewall provides minimal coverage, and we are unable to generate reports."
"Field Effect Covalence could benefit from enhancing its packing slip process."
"There are potential improvements in reports and dashboards."
"Rapid7 MDR is currently weak in AI solutions and intelligence, which is concerning."
"The product should provide full transparency in security operations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"A top-tier competitor to Field Effect in Magic Quadrant that we had been using until our switch to Field Effect was a great product, but each capability had an additional charge. We had to license modules separately, and each of those add-ons had to be added onto its own consumption and agreement. It was a nightmare from a billing perspective because we had multiple agreements, and each one had a jagged anniversary or a renewal anniversary. It was a nightmare, whereas Field Effect MDR is one product."
"We're currently enrolled in the volume package, which offers tiered pricing based on usage."
"While the contract duration might change, the pricing remains highly attractive."
"The pricing is comparable to what else is out there."
"The shift to a per-user pricing model and the introduction of a base price for the on-premises or virtual appliance has been particularly advantageous."
"The cost of the solution is high."
"We were particularly impressed with their pricing model, which charges per user rather than per system."
"The pricing isn't sized, so Field Effect doesn't make it easy for anything under 25 users. I'm not crazy about that."
"The product is not overly priced."
