Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

Easy to setup, good support and stable product
When we started, we used Acronis for both cloud and on-premises backups. Protege was a reliable solution, and the cloud-focused approach is well-suited for our current needs. If you require both cloud and on-premises backup capabilities, Acronis is a more comprehensive solution. For solely cloud-based backups, Protege is a solid option.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use the latest feature in Altaro called CDP (Continuous Data Protection) to back up our VMs as often as every five minutes. It allows us to make sure no data is accidentally deleted or overwritten."
"All of the features are fantastic and also the management from Microsoft dealing with multiple machines is great. The whole package is excellent for me."
"Great backup features for all my Hyper V machines."
"DR time has been massively reduced."
"Altaro is always our go-to VM backup software."
"I have no reservations recommending Altaro for the Hyper-V based small to medium sized business."
"Valuable features for us include quick recovery, compression, and deduplication, and the mix of these features leads to a reduced backup footprint while having guaranteed fast recovery in case of DR."
"The product has many valuable features for handling backup needs, including replication, live migration, and incremental disaster recovery."
"Since it is on the cloud, it is a very stable solution."

Cons

"Altaro also supports booting directly from a backup drive (image), but this feature is hamstrung by the fact that it requires the backup image to be neither compressed or encrypted."
"It would be nice to be able to recover the items to their original location."
"I had some difficulties activating the product but after the activation phase all went smooth."
"The only issue at the moment is a lack of throttling."
"Stability."
"The cloud backup and VMware support (now available in the latest releases), could do with some improvement."
"I did not manage to import my old configuration, in v4, into v5 just after it what was released, however, I believe this functionality has been improved."
"We use Linux guests on Hyper-V clusters and we really need the file level restore on these VMs (ext3 and 4 file systems) functionality."
"One area for improvement would be expanding its capabilities beyond Azure-specific backups."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."

"The pricing is okay,"
