Modern infrastructure has supported critical business services and delivers strong data protection
To be honest, I did not make any changes in Nimble, and the same applies to StoreOnce. The system is built and ready-made. It was already built before we received it, but overall, everything is clear and direct, and there is nothing complex, so I do not need to do a deep dive in the system to resolve or change anything. I do not use HPE Nimble Storage HPE Alletra dHCI intelligent automation. I do not use intelligent data services in managing my data infrastructure. I have not actually used additional functionality for Nimble Storage HPE Alletra dHCI right now, but I think this feature is very useful, especially AI. AI is involved in any software now, and I do not use it in my system, but I think it's very useful.

Crashed continuously, complex to deploy, and bad after-sales support - NETAPP FIXED the problems in 2022
Their after-sales support, SLA, and third-parties availability should be improved. NetApp's support is very difficult to engage. We have an SLA of onsite support within 24 hours. but they don't respect the SLA. Its stability was very bad. It has been crashing continuously. In one year, we got three crashes, which is unbelievable for an appliance that is guaranteed for 10 years without any crashes. In 2022, NetApp Italy, driven by the country manager Davide Marini, fixed all our issues and added additional computation power for free. This is a great example of customer care. They could have done it right the first time of course, but admitting the errors and putting in place such a remediation plan has been a very professional behavior.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of HPE Alletra dHCI is the one-click upgrade function, which allows all drivers and services to be downloaded to all servers easily, and the smart deduplication and smart compression features help save a lot of storage."
"There are many benefits and advantages from Nimble Storage HPE Alletra dHCI, first of all, we save money; when we were comparing between HPE and other competitors, we compared servers' equivalent money, which led us to decide to take an HPE product because it's a benefit for the money, it's not expensive and it supports our needs."
"When you require high growth on dHCI or hyper-converged, the HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is the right solution."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is highly stable because they're using Nimble as the storage."
"The product, in general, is very strong, very robust."
"It is easier to manage compared to the other vendors."
"Nimble Storage is a capable platform with high availability."
"The solution works well."
"This is a strong product and it works very well, and the processes around it continue to grow and mature."
"It offers the ability to scale on demand which is important to the burst capability of scaling up and scaling down."
"HCI definitely improved how flexible we scale, and our entrance into the cloud."
"We have seen two to three million dollars of OPEX savings by deploying this and getting rid of older equipment."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the SolidFire interface."
"We went with NetApp based on the cost-effective solutions, technologies, and protocols."
"The NetApp Deployment Engine that comes with it makes the actual deployment and usage very easy. That's our primary focus and it's hyper-converged. That's something that we want to use as well."
"The most valuables features of it are the deduplication and the compaction because the ratios are much better than what we normally get on our FAS storage."

Cons

"I would like the HPE Alletra dHCI to provide options to install products separately."
"The product is expensive."
"The performance of HPE Nimble Storage dHCI could improve. Other solutions, such as Cisco, are better."
"Definitely from a price perspective it's quite expensive, but looking at the performance and the support system that we have with HPE Nimble, it's really good."
"The initial setup is a little bit complicated."
"A potential area of improvement for HPE Alletra dHCI could be including integration with applications because it is currently just for virtualization and more insights of what is running inside the virtual machines."
"It can be made cheaper."
"Lacking integration to the cloud."
"I would like to have the ability to replicate to multiple sites."
"We went with a different solution and having run that for a while, I would say that there is a lot more than they could do to make it more streamlined."
"The setup was a bit challenging because it's a fairly new product and I think some of the stuff is not quite well baked yet."
"In the next version I would like to see bigger GPU types and insurance for including transparency."
"It is difficult to get acclimated to all the new features quickly. The onboard process could be improved to bring clients up to speed faster."
"I'd like to see some additional graphics capabilities because I'd like to look at some virtual desktop integration for CAD software."
"It would be great if they took something like kernel storage and integrated straight into the NetApp as well."
"If you want to have a really dense data center then it's hard to have a big chunk of cabling going through everything."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The customers have found the solution to be expensive. However, when compared to the competition the price is reasonable."
"I would rate the licensing model a three out of ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is cheap."
"The cost of the licensing is reasonable."
"The product is very affordable."
"The product licensing costs vary depending on whether VMware or other solutions are used."
"The prices are very high."
"I think it's priced right and it's extremely intelligent."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is much cheaper than the competition and has value proposition. Customers can see an ROI in three months. There are no additional costs, and VMware licenses can be reutilized."
"There are the overall infrastructure costs. Even though the initial costing was higher, we calculated for year-to-year for five years. That brought us into a position where we decided, we have to go for HCI rather than having distributor systems."
"This solution reduced our maintenance costs. We were going to have to pay one to two million dollars to put in compute nodes. We are avoiding those costs."
"Where we lost nearly 75 percent of our infrastructure due to a malicious attack and were able to recover two and a half hours into it due to the integration, it saved us and all of our customers. Because we were able to recover so fast from the attack, the solution paid for itself right there."
"You still have to pay for the licensing for VMware and Red Hat licenses separately. It's not all inclusive at this point."
"Its price is aligned with the market. In addition to the standard licensing fees, there is an integrator cost."
"The price of the solution is okay but could improve."
"Licenses run on a yearly basis, and there aren't any additional fees other than the standard licensing fee."
"This solution saved our organization time (35 percent) and money. We have a hefty group of developers, and if you multiply that by 30 to 35 percent, that is quite a bit of money."
