Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

I like the automation and self-healing features
SDDC. Speed to market. Automation and self-healing. Oracle engine. Google and Azure API. Still implementing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"More velocity in applications."
"The solution's technical support is good."
"It doesn't take long to mount the entire VM somewhere and then copy it. That's one of the things that I like about SimpliVity's deduplication and compression. I can literally stand up a backup in minutes. It is like no time at all. They've got pretty phenomenal deduplication and compression. Within SimpliVity, one of the things that they do is deduplication and compression on ingestion. So, on the front side, everything is deduplicated and compressed, which, of course, adds some overhead to their solution. For instance, in my environment today, I've got roughly 30 terabytes of raw storage, and with their deduplication and compression, I'm over the 300 terabyte threshold with my active servers and all my backups."
"I find the replication feature valuable."
"The most valuable feature is that it's easy to manage, and it also has instantaneous backup and lag-free restore, so when everything is running, I can bring back a huge VM in less than 30 seconds, which is even better than Veeam."
"The access, high availability, and interface are the most valuable and important for us. There is one interface for the whole product, which is very important because you have a single pane to view all the infrastructure of a customer. You can improve your data recovery plan or DRP, or you can make a special emergency plan if a disk has any problem."
"The HPE SimpliVity disc compression is very valuable."
"With HPE SimpliVity, hosting applications has become very easy and fast."
"We hired a third company to stress test the system and it was above and beyond in terms of what we expected."
"Automation and self-healing."
"We efficiently move resources between major engineering projects."

Cons

"While it has been a while since HPE acquired SimpliVity, there is a lack of understanding/awareness about the product. In short, it took me time to actually make them understand they had a product named SimpliVity, which as you can imagine does not instill a great deal of confidence."
"The product isn't stable yet, and we are facing a lot of issues."
"The upgrades need improvement."
"The only problem I had was that when we initially purchased SimpliVity, I didn't know that the OmniCube took up 60 GB of RAM."
"The product is expensive."
"SimpliVity has little to no integrations."
"I think that they should have their own hyper-converged system."
"Sometimes it's a little bit difficult to get a hold of them, but once we get a hold of them, their technicians are great."
"Initial setup was complex at the beginning as the system was still lacking some important features, while every new release required a full reinstallation."
"Oracle engine. Google and Azure API."
"We never had an issue with stability, but when we implemented the product, there were certain places where we weren't sure that they are completely aligned with our goals, in terms of how we use the system to get there."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For most use cases, look to see if you can use all-flash as the price point, as it has come down significantly."
"Licensing costs are on a monthly basis. There are additional costs."
"The licensing is on a yearly basis. The licensing cost also includes vCenter at a cost in the cloud solution."
"Scaling isn't cheap"
"The price of the solution is reasonable. We have purchased a five-year license with all the support and upgrades."
"Investing less time in configuration and management means that you will have more time to focus on what is really important: Your company's innovation and rapid commercialization."
"It has helped to reduce our VMware licensing costs due to host consolidation."
"It's about $10,000 monthly."
