Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

I like the automation and self-healing features
SDDC. Speed to market. Automation and self-healing. Oracle engine. Google and Azure API. Still implementing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The backup and restore features are the most valuable."
"HPE SimpliVity is a very valuable and effective solution, and it's also a scalable solution; as the customer requirements and application requirements increase, it can scale to accommodate them."
"Scaling is a piece of cake. We have been able to scale up in our Asia-Pac region. We even are doing site-to-site replication of certain systems that we need to have high availability on."
"We had an incident once where one of our primary servers in a retail store went down, and it took us less than a second to do a restore, so it came back up and we were up and running, when it used to take us days to restore those servers."
"The department that ran our reporting in the legacy environment, it took them about six hours to run their report. Now, it is taking the same department less than an hour."
"HPE SimpliVity is scalable, and some 200 people at my organization are using this solution at present."
"The ability to backup our data without requiring additional storage media or software application was a huge gain."
"SimpliVity meets all of our requirements and also address other future requirements that were not in the scope of the primary storage project."
"We efficiently move resources between major engineering projects."
"We hired a third company to stress test the system and it was above and beyond in terms of what we expected."
"Automation and self-healing."

Cons

"High availability for large production environments needs to be offered."
"Not being able to apply ESXi patches as needed has always been a concern, but it has not become a big issue."
"The product isn't stable yet, and we are facing a lot of issues."
"The product is expensive."
"In terms of what I would define as a perfect solution, I am looking for one that is easy to manage, has a real user-friendly interface, and something that is not too complex."
"I would like to see it able to restore item levels, especially for databases."
"I would like to see a better price/performance in comparison with a standard ESX servers/storage farm solution."
"The stability is not good. I have fewer than 20 VMs per node, I have nine nodes in my environment, and when it goes south, 20 VMs will go down, even though there's a replica on other nodes."
"We never had an issue with stability, but when we implemented the product, there were certain places where we weren't sure that they are completely aligned with our goals, in terms of how we use the system to get there."
"Initial setup was complex at the beginning as the system was still lacking some important features, while every new release required a full reinstallation."
"Oracle engine. Google and Azure API."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We did get some quotes from Nutanix, and they were ballparks. So, it is not cheap, and there is nothing free, but those two were comparable."
"Cost of this product is high."
"HPE has decided to sell the solution in all-flash configurations, which may not be as cost effective for smaller mid-market enterprises."
"Scaling isn't cheap"
"One big advantage with SimpliVity is that you don't need the higher license cost or VMware to put together a simple SimpliVity solution."
"HPE SimpliVity is much more affordable than Nutanix or VMware vSAN...The first pair of servers was about 90,000 EUR, including three years of warranty. It is 30,000 EUR per year."
"The licensing cost could be lower."
"Upfront costs seems high at first look, but after analyzing all the benefits of SimpliVity, we have come out ahead."
